Is Destiny an RPG?

nope. GTAO is more of a RPG.

2 RepliesYes. Its an Action-RPG. Just not a very deep one, in order to make room for the MMO and FPS elements that it also makes use of. The reason why Destiny is so polarizing is that its the first AAA game to really blend these elements....and gamers from these genres aren't used to being in the same community with one another. So there are serious arguments about how much of these elements the game should combine, and what part of its nature it should emphasize. The game seems to be at its best---and seems to gain the most broad-based support---when it leans INTO that action-RPG core identity rather than fighting against it like it did in Year 1 of Destiny 2.

5 RepliesTechnically yes but a weaker yes. You take on the role of a Guardian and very much feel like one when playing. *There is a bit of a break up because the character leveling system is a weak one. You level up but zero choice as to what is effected by said level up. You have a class system but once your have chosen your class you only get 3 subclasses and the trees are decided for you.. not much for choices or diversity, but still there. *You have a main story line and mini stories you can choose to dive into it or not. There's bosses through out and a final boss at the end of the main story line. *You have weapons and armor to collect and upgrade but doesn't have much for variety or choice. Overall, yes it's an RPG but it could take a page or two from other RPGs to make it a stronger one. I feel like I should mention Raids but idk how they technically make it an RPG, they're just so good they need mention. Raids are good.

No. You are the hero of the city no matter what. Sure there are classes and all that, but your character doesn’t get to make a personal legacy. In rpgs like TES you can be a hero or everyone’s worst nightmare through choice. Destiny is just a linear story-based (hilarious, I know) game pretending to be an open world mmorpg/mlg PvP game.

3 RepliesNo. In fact, d2 took a step backwards from said possibility. Now, it is just fighting to stay as a constant world FPS with abilities.
