Faction Rally Feedback

TL;DR:
RNG coupled with a period of one week to earn gear and ornaments for three characters felt short and, as a result, a bit prohibitive to someone with limited daily play time. More activities that reward more tokens would be nice. Patrols felt like the efficient way to grind tokens, which became monotonous after a while. Lastly, it was something to do and I appreciate that. Thank you!
Bungie, As someone who has not seriously participated in a Faction Rally prior to this week, I would like to provide my feedback on the experience. Now, I acknowledge the apprehension to consider player feedback, due to the inherent “anecdotal” nature. I’m going to try my best to provide the “facts” as I lived them. Anecdotal Facts:
I played 17 instances of patrol, ranging from EDZ, IO and Titan. I spent 16 hours and 5 minutes in three days working on this. I reached Dead Orbit rank 83 (1,660 tokens approx). 1,660 tokens / 16 hours = 103.75 tokens per hour. I understand that some people developed a method to acquire 200-250 per hour, but I didn’t research it. Once my primary character received a full set of armor, I switched characters. I (luckily) received a full set of armor on each character. Each set took approximately 400-500 tokens per character. I completed all of the ornaments requiring Renown / Faction Rally participation. My method of farming tokens was: 1) Fast travel to a public event and hit the Rally Flag. 2) Start a patrol (mostly kill confirmed) and collect all but the last item to complete. 3) complete the public event and collect the last item to complete the patrol, for 4-5 Renown. 4) Cash in Renown at a Lost Sector The Lost Sector I picked was Flooded Chasm. The reason I picked Flooded Chasm was I could get there quickly from The Gulch, The Sludge and Winding Cove. Often times, when I would complete the Sector, I could fast travel to one of these zones for a Public Event. The captain in the Sector could easily be picked off with Sleeper Simulant from the Fallen entrance (the side with the dregs, shanks and vandals. There’s a raised area where a Sniper Vandal stands that provides a clear angle at the Captain).
Anecdotal Feedback from a first time Faction Rally participant: Again, this is from the perspective one someone who did not have a full set of armor on each character, yet intended to acquire it. Perhaps the grind will be less the next time I go with Dead Orbit. However, since there are only three faction rallies per season, I think I’ll try my hand at each other faction before I lose out on acquiring the ornaments. 1) Given the short time period of one week, the time investment is too steep with RNG constantly preventing progress. Armor rewards need to be streamlined so that players can start working on Ornaments faster. Perhaps quest items for specific armor pieces would help. Expanding on Time Investment:
I was lucky enough to receive a full set of armor for each character at rank 83. Some people report having to hit ranks well over 100. I knocked this out in three days, which I regret doing. Had I spent the 6 days, I would have to play 2 hours and 40 minutes per day (16 / 6 = 2-2/3 hours per day). I don’t count the 7th day as reset happens at 10AM on Tuesday. I doubt most players have this much time to throw at a game per night. Even as a hardcore player with the spare time, this was a little much.
2) Lack of token efficient activity variety creates monotony. Strikes and crucible seemed insanely inefficient and raids do not seem to grant tokens. I felt stuck simply running patrols, which wasn’t un-fun, but it was monotonous after a while. Perhaps more daily milestones rewarding tokens would help. 3) Renown. Once I got used to it, it wasn’t altogether that bad, but it also wasn’t very interesting after a while. Maybe ability charge rates could be boosted? Kinda like a glass cannon. 4) Perhaps introduce a faction storyline with faction specific missions or tasks. That’s about all I can think of, for now. To wrap this up; I did enjoy the event and look forward to the next iteration. Thank you!
