[Discussion] Reasons for Why Cayde might be alive, or very very dead.

So, after thinking about the whole Cayde thing, I found two possibilities that each had convincing evidence. I think the most important clue to this whole debacle is the lore tab for the Sealed Ahamkara Grasps. https://db.destinytracker.com/d2/en/items/2166230715-sealed-ahamkara-grasps link Most people think the lie is the Brother (Uldren) being an ally, but what if it’s the final line about what is presumably Cayde’s death? I will go over the evidence for both sides and their counterpoints, beginning from weakest to strongest. Dead: 1. Bungie does not want to pay for Nathan Fillion anymore. 2. Shiro-4 has been data mined to replace him. Counter:
Cayde does survive, but uses this whole situation to finally escape his duty as Vanguard mentor and be free from the tower
3. Uldren shot him and his ghost. 4. Bungie says he is really dead. Counter:
the Ghost may have survived (it is not on the floor after being shot) and Bungie has lied before (Do you honestly think they would have said he was alive right after showing that trailer?)
Alive: 1. He could be rebooted! 2. He could have a backup! Counter:
That’s not how Exo reboots work. It’s only to deal with mind decay. Backup is unlikely.
3. His Ghost survived. Counter:
That may have just been an animation oversight
4. The traveler/Rasputin could save him. Counter:
Ex Machina anyone?
5. The Ahamkara Grasps lie about his death. Counter:
You’re overthinking it. The brother line is the lie.
Continuing the topic of #5, it may actually be correct. The grim-I mean Folklore mentions how Uldren is following his sister’s guidance, and she saved the tower twice already. Uldren may be doing something in our favor that we do not yet know about. Of course, that does not explain why he killed Cayde. TLDR: Both are possible with many points and counterpoints, but until Forsaken Launches we do not know for sure. I am sure I missed some things, so feel free to continue the topic further.
Now where is my spinfoil hat?
Edit: some good ideas and points have been made on this subject, and I may make an update later covering them all for better viewing in the sea that is forum threads. Edit 2: one of my friends had an idea for what the unseen force that has all the awoken in jeopardy (as mentioned in a Gameinformer article) could be: Savathun/Quira due to all the Taken imagery seen in the trailers (Gambit and the dreaming city). I think that if this is true, it’s more of a teaser than anything.

I agree cayde6 ghost didn’t exactly get shot cause the outer shell got shot but not the core so cayde probably is alive and bungie probably released this so they could get people to come back to destiny the majority of the destiny community stop playing so that would bungie do is oh we will pretend to kill of a character to get people to come back

    • Bungie confirmed he is dead and will stay dead

    • So apparently, according to the people that got to play the first mission at E3, the trailer is not accurate to how he dies exactly. Interesting.

      • I'll believe he's dead for good when I've completed the entire campaign and there's no sign of him either having actually survived or coming back as "Cayde-7". There's a million ways this could go. Plenty of popular characters throughout all forms of media "die" everyday.

      • maybe he secretly made a pact with uldren to kill him to gain the trust of the barons to face an even greater threat? and he knows he can come back.

      • I’ll just simply say, he’s not dead or won’t stay dead. He’s the only character everyone likes. Zavala can die for all I care. They’re not going to take the comic relief out of the game. Ghost doesn’t count.

        • I was thinking either Rasputin could have the original "system image" for Cayde somewhere in his memory, or the actual human Cayde could be in cryostasis somewhere, and maybe after a long hard struggle we eventually restore him in some capacity, though he would still never be the same Cayde we lost. We don't actually know what Clovis Bray did with the original humans they made into Exos, so it is possible they would have kept them in cryostasis or something as backups in case the Exo failed. Though if we do save him in any capacity, it better be hella hard because I want to feel as good about my achievement as I felt bad about his death.

          • Would not doubt if Uldren blames us for the death of Mara. Oryx wouldn’t have come if we didn’t piss him off by killing Crota. I am certain he is not on our side

            •
1. He could be rebooted!
Not how that works. When a Exo is rebooted it is to correct a form of psychosis they develop. It has to do with the Human Mind rejecting the Exo body. It dosen't bring them back from the dead rather to avoid the Exo from dying due to once again them rejecting their exo body.
Little did we know that the real challenge would be the phenomenon known as Dissociative Exomind Rejection. Nascent Proto-Exos developed serious symptoms of cognitive disorder that eventually led to death. It turned out the human mind would not reconcile its presence in a new "body". It took multiple iterations in design, but the Clovis Bray Corporation eventually developed several solutions. The first is to "reboot" the mind once it has been transferred, allowing it to awaken inside its new shell as though it were being reborn. This has side effects of memory loss and fragmentation, but it's highly effective in the prevention of DER.
• The lie is Uldren, he is the one who shoots Cayde and walks off with the Skorn Barons so he certainly isn't an ally. Uldren has never liked Guardians. We've had a suspicion that Cayde was going to die when audio data files were extracted a little while after D2 launched. Lakshmi-2 - "Cayde's death is upon us. What will you do with that knowledge, I wonder" Hideo - "He wasn't aligned with our greater goals, but Cayde was a friend, and an ally. He will be missed"
