how does using meta weapons = bad at the game

So i wanted to talk a little bit about people who sh!t talk people who use "meta" weapon's... First of all who are you to tell others what they can or cannot use, everyone has there preferred weapon and archtype, but is it really the weapon that makes them good at the game ? No it doesn't. Does it make them scumbags for using it? No not really. This is me mainly talking about the 450 archtype autorifle's but for now ill talk about the one that sparked this topic in my head in the first place. The season 1 trials auto rifle The Prosecutor I got a friend who loves using this weapon, thing is we got a couple of buddies who get mad at people who use meta weapons and they were doing private matches on the release of warmind. My friend has been running the Prosecutor with nameless midnight (because he prefers it to other 180 scouts) and the sleeper (because again he enjoys the weapon as it makes for funny moments in both pvp and pve). So business is going as usual and my friend is kicking ass with the auto rifle occationally switching to his scout and power. This is until one of the other guys says "you have no skill because you use that stupid meta weapon so much, why don't you get gud and something other then that crutch your always leaning on" clearly he said this out of to much salt intake. So what does my friend do ? For the rest of the night ...... he did not swap to his energy ammo once...... and beat everyone down, with only his scout, his fusion and his super, no energy auto was used. He won most matches he played that night. So before you try to shame or shit on someone because they are doing good with a meta weapon, remember that they might not be doing good because of the weapon, they might be doing good because they are good at the game.

  • I know this is an old thread. Using meta doesn't = bad player unless that player is bad without the meta weapon. I have seen this alot.. someone will be trashy and seriously negative for a couple of games and then suddenly they play like a god after switching to the La Monarque for example. Or one of the pinnacle weapons. These type of weapons do not promote strategy or improvement of skills. It's a pacifier that every trashy player turns to

  • It’s only because they are a crutch using the same thing as everyone else isn’t exactly gonna scream I’ve got skill

    • Use what you want, it's your copy of the game. If I'm having problems with a person using a certain weapon, I have to get better and be more careful about what I do and how I engage them.

    • Using meta weapons doesn't equal being bad at the game. This is just an excuse used by those lacking in self-accountability. Pay it no attention and use whatever you want. Tryhards and crybabies can eat a big ol' bag of dicks.

    • (sarcastic) riiiight and every person who glues their butt to a corner with a shotgun can still perform as usual when they don't use power ammo altogether. Truthfully we atleast think that there has to be some people who aren't good at using other weapons besides what they use most, he'll my best weapon in the crucible is auto rifles, scout rifles, and pulse rifles, maybe exclusively in that order.

    • That's where you're wrong my guy. Meta weapons take any sort of fun/ variety out of the game hence why we had so many nerfs in d1 because while the players did complain. The other side would not let go of their "crutch". However for me yeah GL and VW are really annoying my gripe is the people that sit aimed down a lane with it but that falls under Teamshooting which is still an issue

During D1, my buddy kept pushing me to watch WishYouLuckk because he would tell me how Wish was the greatest PvPer ever and whatever. I watched him one day during one of his 24 hour streams. He was using a Last Word and a sniper (don't remember which one, but it was a meta sniper) and doing a carry with his other twitch buddy in Trials. I don't remember where they were on the card, but they had a rough game, and Wish had no kills and kept getting rekt by some random using a Last Word and the same sniper. It was meta vs meta. The game was lost, and I watch Wish shatter his controller against the wall and then rant for, I swear, a good 10 mins about how the Last Word Sniper bitches need to get out of their mom's basements and actually go outside instead of gaming all day. He said this...during a 24 hour stream...while he was using a Last Word and Sniper rifle... And I don't know how, but his viewers then donated him money to buy a new controller. It was some of the dumbest shit I have ever seen, and I literally lost some faith in humanity that day. Never watched him again after that, and told my bud he was a dumbass.

        • I've never understood it either. I can only chalk it up to some players attempting to shame others because they have no other option when they get beat. There's nothing wrong with using the best tool for the job. Think of how the world would work if it was discouraged to do so. I'd like to know how many of those complainers purposely use inferior items elsewhere.

        • Anyone butt hurt over "meta weapons" enough to send you a message will typically fall into one of two classes: 1) A lame ass "elite" who feels like they are the only one good at the game and can't wait to try to put anyone else down. Meta weapons are an easy target because "scrub can't use a REAL weapon", and/or 2) Someone who can't beat that particular weapon and goes into irrational rage every time it pops up on their death screen. Neither class are worth your time, attention, or energy. Enjoy their sweet and intense rage with a spoon and some rich, buttery syrup.

The people who hate on meta weapons are narrow minded. You still have to know how to use the weapon properly in order to use it effectively so, in a sense, there really isn't a such thing as "meta" the way the haters use it... This game was built (literally from day one, 4-ish years ago) so that each individual could play the game how they wanted to play the game - it's the whole reason they're bringing back random rolls with Forsaken. Destiny was always supposed to feel like an RPG in terms of custom play styles. I'm with you!

Look at the source. The whiny snowflake PvP guys don't want you using good guns, because they don't like dying in the Crucible. They prefer only they have access to good guns. So, why would anyone care about the opinions of players like that? I sure don't. If anything, it makes me use meta weapons even more.......just to tick them off. Use whatever gear that makes the game fun for you.......not for the snowflakes.

Honestly, it seems to me like they're all just not very good or aggressive players. Auto Rifles are terrible against anyone decent using anything decent, besides maybe Suros and Sweet Business when prefired to full speed. But smart players will adapt shortly. And Scout Rifles are just ok, but it sounds to me that people couldn't kill your friend either due to lack of skill, he was sitting far back with it, or the flinch from Explosive Payload was just too much to shoot back at(it's very staggering, and sometimes blinds for a split-second). Past that specific situation, running meta doesn't necessarily make you a bad player. But every single meta of D2 has rewarded either passivenes or spray-n-pray gameplay. The only times Destiny 1 ever did that were in Trials with Skorri's or vanilla when Auto Rifles had infinite range and Suros was an easily accessible Heavy Machinegun. But there are defintely players who literally cannot succeed without running meta weapons(that happen to be extremely easy to use atm). For instance, take most players who main V Wing and a burst sidearm. Make them have Hand Cannon gunfights, and they probably get maybe 3 gun kills because they can't just lane or spray bodyshots for easy kills.

            • It doesn't really mean that. It's true that bad players are more likely to use the meta because they can't really do well with much else, but you can't really generalize it that way. Some really good players use the meta just because they're competitive and want to win. It does bug me though when some guy using the meta in a quickplay match decides to teabag me every time he gets a kill. It's super annoying, and since I usually don't use the meta I'm at a disadvantage. It just doesn't make sense to teabag someone when you have the clear advantage. In summary: Using the meta doesn't necessarily make you bad, as long as you don't brag about winning with it.

            • Meta weapons are meta because generally speaking they are the ones that remove any sort of learning curve the most. I wouldn't say bad, but it does lean in that direction considering.

            • Not using everything in your arsenal to get an advantage is being bad at the game...scrubs will always blame their complete lack of skill on "OP" weapons. I always play to win, and so should everyone else...

            • I think your friend is probably one of the rare cases where he is using the weapon not because it is the META but because he legitimately enjoys using the weapon(which just happens to be the META). What this whole thing is referring to I think is the people that will flock over to use a weapon simply because it is the META. The people that are too lazy to look for the gun they will be truly good with on their own I think it is a shame that using a weapon will label everyone that uses the weapon but in some cases the people using the guns clearly are only using it because someone told them it was the Meta gun. The person has no idea how to play with the weapon and is easily taken out(META Noob). Person deserves to be labelled Personally I like using weapons that feel satisfying. Braytech WinterWolf(masterworked for range) and Polaris Lance is generally what I will stick with.

              • People will whine and cry and blame their faults on frivolous items before confessing they are at fault. I’ll own my lack of skills and/or bad decision making. For me it’s just a game.
