Resilience to survive 2 melees?

Was wondering what resilience you need to rock to survive a 2-hit melee? When D2 launched Bungie said there would be no 2 hit melee kills so I've messed around with roles all willy-nilly. But over the last week in particular I've been copping 2 hit melee after 2 hit melee after 2 hit melee yet it takes me an absolute minimum of 3 hits to kill others. At the moment I have 5 resilience on my hunter and that doesn't seem to stop it, so, just want to know, what is the minimum resilience I should have to avoid these situations? I understand items like synthoceps will still pose an issue, but I'm just speaking about in regards with punching it out with your average guardian. ***EDIT*** I know it's a bit to ask, but if someone could provide a rough guide for stat investments across each character type that'd be great.

  • The total 15 extra hit points you get from maxed resil is not enough to stop any "high damage" attacks. Resil only helps to make your opponent need an extra bullet or two to kill you. 3, 6, and 8 are the thresholds to aim for with resil depending on how many weapons you want to attempt to thwart. In my opinion, abandon Resil as much as possible since ultimately it will do absolutely nothing to combat the TTK of grenades, melees, V-wing, Grav Lance, etc. Go for Mobility to decrease their ability to hit (slightly) through strafe speed while improving your overall movement potential and Recovery to help not get mopped up quite as easily. Further opinion, Mobility trumps all: helps to get that extra step to land a finishing melee and conversely gives you enough to to backpeddle out of melee range and sidestep incoming fire. Recovery comes in second, assisted by the increased survivability of Mobility. You can't recover if you're dead. Lastly comes Resilience, the essentially useless stat.

    • I think it goes up by 2 each bracket. So try to get 6 resilience and see. Good way to test is get a friend and go into a private pvp match and voila.

Let's do some quick math: Unbuffed/uncharged melee = 90 damage per hit 0 Resilience = 186 HP So then the equation we have is 186 - 90(2) = ? HP 186 - 180 = 6 HP So then we can see that 2 normal melees will never kill you, even at the lowest Resilence possible(unless the game bugs out on you). The only subclasses that have an immediate, outright double melee with no special conditions or animation are Dawnblade and Sunbreaker(if the melee registers properly) due to burn. And there is no stopping that with any Resilience level. The only way to survive without an overshield would be some form of immediate health regen, like Wormhusk, health on melee kills, Rifts, and though rare, Phoenix Dive.

      • Anything over 5 or 6 is wasted. Focus on max recovery.

        • Melees do 90 damage. Every guardian, to my knowledge, can sustain two melees.

        • I always need three melees to kill people.

        • As for your stat question, my advice is to max out whatever stat appeals you; it’s what i do. I know it probably doesn’t do anything, but I max out mobility on my hunter. If you’re going try hard, go for recovery.

        • I think there is some background slight of hand going on with regard to Hunter melees and Hunter recovery and resilience... For whatever reason, it currently appears that Hunters have the most effective melees and survive in situations where their low recovery should mean they are dead. In PvP my Hunter seems to win more melee confrontations than lose, including getting what feel like two hit kills. On Titan or Warlock I lose more melee fights than I win In Heroic Strikes I die less as a Hunter despite lower recovery. It's as if their is background extra resilience and recovery on Hunters above the stat, to compensate for their low recovery values at the start of D2. Just a hunch anyway...

          • I run triple 5s on titan and he is a 3 melee kill. My hunter is a 6 and pretty sure he survives doubles (at being absolute)
