Hunter Cowboy Build: Thoughts and Feedback

Destiny is an FPS first and an RPG second, and as such there isn't exactly an enormous depth to buildcrafting, but still, I enjoy it. My goal is always stylish and functional, with theme taking a very slight priority over raw min-max potential. Your input on how to improve the build would be appreciated. Cowboy Hunter: A beastly mid-range DPS machine with little to no downtime while slaying enemies and looking great. Very dependent in almost every regard on your ability to land precision hits. Gunslinger subclass, Way of the Sharpshooter, Marksman's dodge Crimson Exotic Kinetic slot Lucky Pants exotic armor Handcannon energy slot with either explosive rounds or dragonfly perk Constant Uptime: The improved Lucky Pants cause precision hits, not kills mind you just hits, to reload rounds into any stowed handcannon. Crimson heals you per enemy kill and reloads itself on each precision kill. Between all of these features you will almost never have to reload, but when you do you can use a marksman's dodge to instantly reload. Waves of Trash Mobs: This is why I like having a dragonfly or explosive round energy weapon. Pull it out to bust up and wipe out tightly packed waves of mobs, then switch back to Crimson (which should be fully loaded from your precision hits) to focus down the remaining tougher enemies. If you are accurate with your throwing knife, knife-juggler is useful here as well since precision knife hits do a ton of damage and if it kills the target the knife instantly recharges. Yellow bar enemies or bosses For these enemies you might not get the precision kill necessary for crimson to reload itself before the clip runs out. In this case, keep switching back and forth between your Kinetic and Energy handcannons. If you can land consistent precision shots they will keep reloading each other and you'll last a hell of a long time before you need to reload. Longer Range: This is your weak spot. If you can get the masterwork crimson (I do) it really helps. This adds 20 range to Crimson, which doesn't make it a scout rifle by any means, but does add a noticeable bump to effective range. I recommend a Sniper Rifle as your Power weapon. Your saving grace at range is your golden gun, which does a ton of damage, and if you land precision hits, even if you don't kill the target, it will generate orbs of light. OPTIONS: If you are having trouble with the heavy reliance on precision hits, you can switch to Way of the Outlaw, which greatly reduces reload speed when you get precision kills. With this, as long as you can get at least one precision kill with the clip, you can very quickly reload your gun and keep rolling. Also the explosive knife is less dependent on accuracy compared to knife juggler. You do, however, lose the raw damage of the 3-shot golden gun and get the weaker 6-shot version.

  • First: after playing with a similar loadout, I found that Dire Promise (Kinetic with Triple-Tap) worked very well. Used it with Nature of the Beast (Dragonfly). With Dire, one could get enough bullets to fully reload the Beast, and the Beast's deep mag gave plenty to refill Dire. This also freed the Exotic to use for a heavy weapon. Tips: don't empty the mag if avoidable. Take advantage of the Pant's swap speed and accuracy buff by swapping after 3-6 shots. This way by the time you've emptied them both, you can dodge to reload one and keep it rolling. BTW, Chains of woe is tied to the 3-gun, not the six shooter.

  • Excellent Build! I might start using this build in a few strikes. Hope you make a few more builds. Like Lion Rampant and Sweet Business. Can you say attack helicopter...?
