Destiny 2 Won't Launch on Xbox One After Update

Just installed the latest update. When I attempt to launch Destiny 2 it shows that it is verifying content and signing in. Shorty after, the game hangs on me. Sometimes I get a message stating that there was a problem reading the game content. Others, it just stops and crashes. I have reset my console multiple times. Hasn't fixed the issue. Any suggestions? Is anyone else having this issue? Edit: I guess I'm reinstalling the game. Unfortunately for me, I am in interim housing. I don't control my internet or anything for the time being. It took an hour to install the ~720 Mb update. Destiny 2 is a total of 45 GB......Honestly, by the time it is done downloading, I don't know if I will even want to play it anymore with how frustrated this makes me. I'll check back in a couple of days and let you know if reinstalling the game on Xbox One fixes the issue or not. Edit Edit: I am impatient AF. So, earlier I walked to my local store and picked up a physical copy of D2 (luckily it was only $20). I then installed that. 20 GB still needed to be downloaded (the updated content through various patches). That took most of the evening. Once that finally finished, I was able to launch and play D2 again. Caveat being that I probably have to play with this stupid piece of silicon in my disk tray until I have suitable internet available to me to be able to download again. Edit Edit Edit: Maybe I spoke too soon. After installing the game from the disc and being able to play for a little over 2 hours, for thralls and giggles I decided to see what would happen if I tried to launch the game without the disc in the disc tray. That was apparently a bad idea. It didn't work, which I expected. However, when I put the disc back into the tray and tried to launch..........it continued to not work. I can't even get to the title screen now. The screen goes black for a moment and then goes back to the dashboard. Edit Edit Edit Edit: So, just reinstalled the game from disc again. It appears to be starting. However, in my previous attempt at this, I was only able to play one session and the game stopped working again. So, assuming I get so lucky as to complete some milestones and stuff, I will report back on whether or not it continues to work after I am done with this game session. Edit Edit Edit Edit Edit: Last night I went through a very long session. I got all of the raids done for my Warlock. Quit the game and tried to launch again this morning. The game seems to launch. It does seem a little less than stable though. At the beginning of my session last night I got the anteater error. When trying to hop this morning Destiny 2 said that I had to be connected to Xbox Live to play, when I was already signed in. Took a couple of tries before I was actually able to get in. So, right now the tentative solution for me has been to basically reinstall the game.......twice. Hope this can help some of the others who have been struggling with the same issue. I know this is not exactly an answer most of you are hoping for.

  • Same sorts of issues here, I'm now doing my 3rd uninstall/reinstall and each time there has been 47GB update, this time has been completely involuntary all I did was completely shut down my xbox and then start it back up to override the error and its started reinstalling all on it's own. I honestly can't believe such a cool game would ave so many problems, honestly super disappointed from the response from bungie with this. One would think that a company that has just released such a promising DLC would fix the original issues, or at least offer some better advice on how to fix it.

    • So I had this same issue. I tried every troubleshooting step. Uninstalled expansions, the game as a while. Unplugged xbox, rebooted internet. None worked. Not until I looked deeper did I realize that the game itself was trying to download the expansions in when the error came up. So I uninstalled the expansions, started the game back up and let it download the expansions on it's own and has worked ever since.

      • Hello GamerT, We are investigating the issue you have reported. In the past these symptoms have usually pointed to a issue with the hard drive or a single sector of the hard drive. You may want to try uninstalling, or wiping, your hard drive and try installing Destiny on a blank hard drive. If it work then you may have a bad sector on that hard drive that the game is continually being installed to. We will continue to look into it on our side as well. Hope that helps.

        • Legit only confirms my thinking that this game is a piece of shit. Was going to give it a chance but no, and I'm not going to go through the inconvenience of reinstalling. You shouldn't have to go to that trouble for something a lot of people pre-ordered and already downloaded. Bungie failed in making a sequel, but hey at least they made a semi-decent joke.

        • Nothing I have Tried has Worked... Whenever I've tried to enter my digital copy of Destiny 2 since the update on 5/29/18, it shows me the Destiny 2 logo for around 5 seconds then boots me out. No error message or anything. I have restarted my Xbox One, Shut it Down, I did a factory reset (one that saves data), I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game, I have unplugged the Xbox and plugged it back on, I have various things on this forum, youtube, and the Microsoft website. If it's my internet, why do all my other online games work and why do I get no error code. I am still looking for things I haven't done. I need help!!!!

            • I uninstalled and reinstalled the entire game. worked for about 1/2 of a strike and lost connection. It hasn't worked since. Its been total crap, nothing works. I had the screen tell me it couldn't read content, then another saying i might not own the game, and then another time it had me on a screen showing it trying to download the game, and an entire list of zoo animal error codes. In the last few days i saw probably a dozen different things on the game deck, the only thing it hasn't done is make me coffee and lick my ass. The update is screwed, end of story. A real pile of shit.

            • I am having the same issues. I was able to play Monday night. I downloaded the update today (Thursday) and now I can't start the game at all. It just pulls up the Destiny 2 screen then immediately kicks me back out to my Xbox homepage. I had done a hard reset and restarted my internet just in case. The same thing keeps happening.

            • Unplug the power to your xbox then plug it back in. This will allow destiny 2 to work...or at least it fixed it for me and I can now play it. Hope this helps :) K.

                • POTENTIAL FIX: This issue happened to my friend on his Xbox one. He uninstalled the game after two days of failing to sign in. Upon reinstalling he was able to launch the game and everything seems to be working. He tried to only uninstall the expansion first but it had no effect. I know it’s inconvenient but I hope this helps.

                      • I was in my inventory, just finished the nightfall with a few friends, and equipped a new emblem (tree of probabilities) from the nightfall and had just gotten a sidearm with a higher level. I was about to get a new mod for it when the game crashed. My game kicked me out with the message about being unable to verify game files or something similar. Then when I tried to open the game again it immediately tried to verify my game for a very long time and at the end gives me this message: "Unreadable game content. A full destiny 2 reinstall is required. For more information, visit help.bungie.net and search for error code: beagle". Then kicks me back to home screen, and continued to do this every time I opened the game. So, looking the message up, the instructions for xbox one are to reinstall. So after about 15 hours of downloading I finally have it installed with expansions (though it seems to be missing the pre-bought bonus package). Now, after installs are finished, the initial loading screen with the traveler on it loads and then crashes back to the home screen without any message almost like there is another update. But there is no update waiting or installing.
