But I'm wanting to since it's part of the game I haven't played yet. Only issue is I can't really communicate (I can listen and follow directions though).
Is communication a must for the current raids? Or is it doable with one person down a mic?

And why can't you communicate? My clan helped two deaf guys do raids in D1, so you can overcome most issues with a little creative thinking.
-
They can be done without a mic but you'll have to let the team know you'll listen and communicate via text chat if needed. I would suggest you create your own looking for group post and let them know you don't have a mic. We've carried people through leviathon and eaters without mics. It can be done.

Why would you ask people to go out of their way just so you don't have to speak? Personally, I don't run raids with people who don't have a mic. It CAN be done but it's a hassle and frankly not necessary when mics are so cheap, not to mention both the xbox and playstation come with a cheapie headset.

There is a mute clan not sure of there name you might beable to hook up with them they have beaten the raid as a team....i think that is very amazing and skillful.....
-
2 RepliesMe and my clan can take you through, we have taken around 4 people through who don't have a mic yet communicate through using emotes or messages when easy too. Message me on PS4 if you play on that platform and I will sort something out.
-
2 RepliesPs4 or what?

Another suggestion is go on to 100.io and link up with some other people. You do not need a mic there and once you start playing with others and the get to know how you play you could get a raid together.

1 ReplyI once did wotm with a guy that was not only mute but also deaf. He was on point with every single bomb throw or empowerement shift, we just had his teammate on Aksis fight check if he's not empowered. People like that do exist, and if for some reason you can't get a mic, it is not impossible to complete the raid, but most people won't want to raid with you. It's a serious hindrance for tge team and in some encounters it is literally necessary to have a mic (prestige gaunglet)

Honestly, if you are not the runner in gauntlet, and in the throne room at calus, or a gem holder at dogs, I dont see a need for you to speak. I have a friend who is mute and we got him through just fine.

11 RepliesI was going to say, “What if OP is mute?” But someone beat me to it. I don’t understand why people jump to asking, why don’t you buy a mic? What if he lives in an area where you can’t just leave, go to the store and buy a headset that will be compatible and not cause feedback for the other end? Not everywhere in the world is capitalistic. He says he can’t really communicate, let it be.

Doable, yes you can but only the most forgiving raid team would want to do it, especially for someone they do not know. Communication just makes the raid move smoother with less frustrations. I don't want to sound as a kill joy, but it is a reasonable expectation to be able to communicate when needed. Close to half of my raids in D2 and a significant portion of my raids in D1 had at least one person that had not completed the raid, so I am very used to taking new people through and teaching the raid. Without a mic, I personally would not likely take even my normal clanmates that know the raid. I would check Twitch for streamers that have a channel dedicated to getting new players through the raid and try with them. WTF Nation comes to mind, possibly Say No To Rage. Good luck

Go back to D1 and solo crota, it's a blast.

Edited by Sunny: 5/23/2018 1:31:51 PMIt's definitely doable, I'm not sure if you can hear or if you're deaf but it's a huge help if you can at least hear someone explain the encounters as you progress if not that's fine too. The first raid (sorry raid lair) is easy and pretty simple, there are just some roles you shouldn't do since you can't talk. Your biggest issue honestly would be finding a group who doesn't mind no mic.
-
It’s doable, but the trick, as always, is finding others who care to hand hold you through. Gotta realize, taking orders is only part of it. Some of these puzzles, you’re at a serious disadvantage not being able to give feedback to the group. You know, things like “need backup, all clear, 50% there, dear god I’m about to die horribly” etc. If you’re serious about raising (and it really is good fun) I think buying even the cheapest mic will be worth your while

6 RepliesI haven’t done a raid since D1 because the leviathan is a bargain bin crap attempt at a raid and I refuse to play something so garbage. The D1 raids were innovative and interesting, the leviathan is just lame with terrible loot
-
You need a mic. Especially if you're a raid noob. You need to be able to ask questions and point things out.
-
2 RepliesBuy a 10$ mic? 5$ mic? People say communication isnt needed. Buts its so annoying trying to teach someone who cant talk. If you are deaf, find a deaf team that will lead you. But in most cases, i dont like the concept of a hard carry.
-
If everyone understands your situation it’s definitely doable. Probably helps to watch a tutorial or two so you kinda understand the fights. But I did Oryx with a random who could only hear but not speak. We did it. I’m guessing like anything in destiny you just gotta find an understanding group. I too haven’t done a D2 raid by the way.
-
You’re the mirror image of my kids. They communicate plenty (mostly noise) but can’t listen or follow directions 🙂
-
With a good group, and you knowing what your supposed to do, no. My team had our party bugged the other night for gauntlet and we did 2 rounds with no mics. It was intense but we would not have been able to do that had we not had the experience to know what to do at all times and if we didnt have good teamwork. Same with argos.

Edited by Tosevite 187: 5/22/2018 1:20:13 PMLeviathan: Pools- no communication needed Dogs- no communication needed Gauntlet- two mics needed Calus- three mics needed (4 for prestige) Castellum- no communication needed EoW: three mics needed (could probably do it with none but it would be annoying) Spire: Catch: No mics needed Fans: no mics needed Last 2 parts: 4 I think When I say no communication you still need to set everyone’s role and know what you’re doing. Just there doesn’t need to be any talk mid encounter.
-
The only 2 parts of the raid you need to communicate on(at least Leviathan) is if you’re in the void dimension on Calus, or you’re running on Gauntlet, other than those two you should be fine tbh
-
6 RepliesI purposely muted my mic on argos and had no clue wtf was going on. Still beat it though in 30mins. So yeah it can be done.
-
there are parts that you would have to be a certain job as you wouldn't be able to indicate what you were doing which some parts require. Or, a new strategy would have to be made to incorporate your lack of ability to communicate. I ran several people and sometimes up to 2 with no mic through each raid in d1, all while completing the challenge modes for each. Sometimes a new strategy would have to be incorporated, such as on the aksis challenge when we had to know to look at the right side and left side to see who was empowered as people with no mics were designated to drop empowerment at certain locations. it adds a challenge for the entire group.

If you have a team that understands that you don't want to talk and are willing to work with you when it comes to callouts and other mechanics that require communication, it's possible. But really, you're better off using a mic. WAY easier.
