Crota question

So, supposedly every hive starts as a thrall right? Does that mean that at one point there was a thrall named Crota? Cause I find it suspicious that out of the 154,363 thrall that have died, the two sons of the king just happened to not only survive, but also become nearly as powerful as their father. Or did Oryx just have like 5000 kids or something?

    Long answer
Ever since the Hive were created after making the pact with the Worm Gods, all Hive start out as gender-neutral larvae. The larvae then become also-gender-neutral Thralls. Afterwards their gender is somehow decided or created or something. Males become Acolytes, then Knights, and the Knights grow and increase in power until they become gods themselves. Nokris was an exception to this rule as he became a Necromancer (male Wizard) by experimenting with resurrecting the dead, which was why he became a heretic. Thralls that become females become Wizards, who also ascend to goddess-hood at some point. The Taken King was an exception to THAT rule because he started out as a female named Aurash, who evolved into a male/female hybrid named Auryx, then became the male Knight known as Oryx today. However, Wizards can -blam!- with the Thrall’s natural growth. The most common way is to turn them into Ogres. Another way is what Savathûn did to Malok; enlarging him, but still gifting him intelligence. He’s classified as an “Acolyte/Thrall/Ogre triple hybrid.”
Tl;dr
Yes, Crota started as a larvae and then a Thrall. Crazy, I know.
• Even a pawn can become a King. Having a green filter on things helps too.

    • At first I think Crota didn't have his name until he was able to be a knight, "I'll only give you two things, a name and a sword."

    • Taking a quote from Eris "The average thrall does not live long enough to become ascendant, he is taken." I believe this was when you do the D1 strike on the moon (forgot the name) but you have to kill another hive prince but he taken. He started out as a thrall that was created by oryx's sister to destroy his rule from within. Oryx saw through this and made him into a taken knight.

    • So we are concerned about lore when they entirely scrap the darkness concept because they didn't even know what it was. We can't take them seriously at this point

        • As Archival said, Crota was probably a sheltered child that made it through childhood with his daddy protecting him. He wouldn’t have made it if he didn’t.

            • I don’t have a definite answer but I can make an educated guess. I would assume this is true for all but ascendant Hive. I’m the BoS Oryx talks about how successful his daughters were in such little time, which makes me think they were always wizards. And as they were twins by having a worm cut in half, I doubt two identical thrall would rise on the same path and reach the same outcome. It also specifically lists all of Oryx’s children in the BoS, excluding Nokris, so it makes a big deal that he didn’t have a bunch of children. Essentially it’s statistically unlikely like you said, so I think they had some special advantage from “birth”
