A quick analysis on Rasputin:
To understand Rasputin as a character in destiny, let’s look at where his name came from Rasputin in history was a mystic and “holy man” from Russia in the late 19th and 20th century who cozied up to the Czar’s wife in Russia. He came to be a manipulator in Russia politics and puppets the czar. Their were many rumors about this man and due to him being a mystic and supposedly crazy, he was nicknamed the Mad Monk. He was finally assassinated in 1916 but after several failed attempts (as legend goes).
In short, Rasputin was a powerful man who was questionable. He was a key factor in the lead up to the Russian Revolution.
What does that mean about the Destiny Rasputin? Well first off he could be unstable. We even see him say that he is unmatched in every way and is superior to anything and anyone. This does not include the fact that his way with dealing with the hive is mass genocide against them instead of hitting high value targets.
Secondly, he seems to be fine being allied with us for now but states that if we get in his way, he will kill us. While he has given us weapons in the past and helped us with the hive before, he has only helped us when we come and clear out enemies inside his vaults and then kick us out (he has also killed a scot team of guardians in d1 when they went in the vault on earth).
Then there was the SIVA crisis that killed the Iron lords. It was not because SIVA is bad but because Rasputin imputed code that made SIVA attack and Kill the intruders. He did not care for what we did for him in the past, all he did was murder without a second thought. To him we are disposable.
In short, while Rasputin is helping us now and may continue to in the future, he has his own motives no matter what he says about persevering humanity.
Edit: Kelly Green raises a good question, how many of Rasputin’s fragments have been reactivated? We may only be looking at a small part of his true personality.

1 ReplyKeep in mind that the deaths of the iron lords were at the hands of a fragmented piece of rasputin left over in the collapse. The piece that we saw was only a portion that can’t be used to assume the full extent of his personality, especially since we know where the true rasputin is now.

3 RepliesNext expansion most likely being Reef. I have a theory that Rasputin will see them as a threat being allied with Fallen. Destiny 2 civil war. Which side will you be on?

2 RepliesHere’s the thing: you can never really trust Rasputin unless you know he isn’t lying. He could always be manipulating you for his own needs. His first thing on the list of priorities is his own survival, not humanity’s.
