Are the cabal really bad guys?

For the years I have been playing Destiny, I haven't once stopped to think, "are the cabal evil?" at least the foot soldiers, because it was just mindless shooting that didn't really matter in the long run, but I've been thinking, the Cabal have a society similar to ours, I think, they have cities, governments, a military, and families, maybe not the psions, but the cabal foot soldiers we see, probably have families, and we kill them, without a thought, because their generals are evil, but really, the soldiers are just following orders, and most likely have families, who are now without a father. Idk if my material here is wrong or not, but it really changed my mind about the cabal, at least the foot soldiers.

  • The Cabal and Fallen seem to be the only race that have a sort of society. Fallen think we are the monsters. But I still think Alliances are possible. Even if it's one House. I believe Calus and his High Command are rather peaceful. But they love the roar of war etc. I think once we help Calus kill off the Red Legion, he'll be available to maybe negotiate with the Vanguard on terms of a truce, or some sort of Alliance.

    • I'm pretty sure we're the bad guys most of the time.

      • I operate under the blanket that there are good and bad Cabal. Some we could align our goals and some that are an obvious opposing force. As far as good or bad isn't everyone and everything always both. It's just a matter of perspective. I think this goes for all of the races including the Hive and Vex.

      • <The Fallen can be reasoned with. Mithrax and Variks are such examples. The problem is that normal humans fear them as much as the Fallen fear Guardians. We can get a truce, it IS possible. We just need to find the diplomats in the Fallen area and then WE go in. Not the Vanguard. US. Why? Because we have more experience with friendly Fallen than any other (maybe Cayde is an exception, but I don't think his character is good for diplomacy). The Cabal... are just a space roman empire. The Psions, funny story about that, are slaves... BUT they WERE going to be freed by Calus when he was in charge. The Midnight Coup happened before he could do it. Calus is a jerk, truly, but he is easily the lesser of two evils. The Cabal people, soldiers too, love Calus. It is written so, and that is why he was not executed, but exiled. If he were to get back in power, the people would rejoice as his conspirators fell. Why do you think he has so many Loyalists? That being said, Calus has quite an ego on him and declares himself a prophet of Nothing, the Void he saw at the edge of the galaxy. I don't even know if he knows what it is. For it is IT he saw. Either way, it's entirely possible that he will turn on us after we do the job. At the same time, he has genuine respect for us, we might be spared. Better yet, Calus allies the entire Empire with us against the Deep.>

        • This kind of question is why in every video game ive played since halo 3:ODST, whenever i encounter a new alien species, i let them shoot first. All is fair game after that.

        • Usually the average person is not the bad guys are good guys it's their governments running the show. That's the way it's always been. I actually feel bad for Goombas, those little guys have it rough, they can't even hold a gun

        • Yes, actually. They are genocidal and the Psions are a slave race used for labor and expendable soldiers. Pretty shitty, by my standards:

          • Kinda like asking two different ppl on different sides of a war which one is evil. From both perspective they will accuse of the opposing side of being evil...

          • I think we kind of decided that the whole "I was just following orders" argument doesn't count when it comes to war crimes. Close your heart to them, boy.

          • Not really cause the Royal Guard and Calus seem to be more nicer than the Red Legion. He calls off the Royal guard in EOW and we kill off a Red Legion General in the Spire of Stars. I think it depends on who we are interacting with.

            • Cabal aren't evil like the Hive or the Vex, but they sure as hell ain't no angels. They've conquered and enslaved countless planets and have blown up solar systems. They even have a planet eating ship.

              • I don't know. But seeing as how they were in the main campaign and in both DLC's, I'd say they're pretty annoying.

              • It's like any empire in our history, they think their way of life is superior so invade others to make them embrace it, and also take resources and troops to take further civilisations. Not evil, they just have a different way of thinking. Obviously, other races would rather live in peace. The way to deal with it (like in real life) is to beat them at their own game. Defeat them in combat and they'll stay away, and perhaps even release other civilisations as a result.
