Who else misses the Halo 3 ranking system?

Is it me or does the new ranking system in Halo Reach seem kind of pointless? I don't know about any of you but it seems to me that people can go into a lot of games, lose or do bad all day but have 3 lucky games and get a good daily rating. I really hope they bring the 1 - 50 true skill system back or at least a hybrid of the both.

  • Well trueskill is still there.Just the visible ranks are gone. Personally i liked the visible rank.Unfortunately the community wasn't mature enough to handle the ranks and there was to much abuse with people boosting screwing the lower ranked players.Not to mention the extra verbal abuse. So sadly I say goodbye visible ranks.They really weren't as bad as people make them out to be.

  • I loved the ranking system in Halo 3. The only thing I hated was rank elitism. It sucks when a good majority of certain people say if you aren't a 50, you suck. People like that ruined the Halo 3 ranking system. If someone wasn't happy with their 35, they would just boost it to something higher.

  • I wasn't a big fan. I stopped really trying to go up after I reached 40, and hearing so many people complain about how they couldn't get their General because the ranking system was 'broken' got really annoying after a while. Wait.. *Recalls the days of Halo 3* "BUNGIE FIX YOUR RANKING SYSTEM ITS BROKEN!" Hmm... Funny how times change. I'll stick with an EXP type rank-up. Everyone wins, as long as they invest. What's so wrong with that? If you want to be sectioned off to compete with people of your skill level, play Arena.

Woo...[/quote] Exactly. I would be ecstatic if they introduced an improved version of Halo 2's system. I only reached a level 29 in Halo 2 and I was more than happy with that it felt right. Halo 3 messed up by making a 50 FAR to easy to achieve. Reach messed up with the entirety of the ranking.

[/quote] I know how you feel, I never really played social in Halo 2/3. In Reach though its essentially all social, so why play the Arena, it sucks. Great gameplay, the ranking system is a major let down. They're previous ranking system was unrivalled in console gaming (abused or not) the new one is like so many other games out there.

  • I miss it. I loved lone wolves,trying to get as high as I could. I only reached 35 but that was good for me. These new arena ranks just dont do it for me.

  • I don't mind the new ranking system but why must ranking up to a Captain or Lt. Colonel take so long? I also wish things in the Armory weren't so expensive, given how little cR you actually earn.

  • i hated halo3's rank system. there were way to many boosters and modders and hackers. also if u lose 2 or 3 ranked matches, it becomes almost impossible to get your skill back up and continue on ranking up. my highest skill was 40, and i lost like 3 0r 4 lone wolves matches, i dropped to 36, and i was never able to get bak to 40 cuz i was always forced to play against boosters and ppl who were simply better than me. im currently a colonel grade 3 in halo 3, and unless i win 1200 more matches, ill never be a force colonel. im really glad that reach uses money to rank up insted of Trueskill. the only ppl who miss Trueskill are boosters and cheaters.

  • I can't believe so many people are bitter about never reaching level 50. This forum is full of force colonel's complaining about halo 3's ranking system because they are bad at Halo 3. As far as most people here are concerned Bungie could release a halo game consisting of riding around on a pink pony and they would still sing their praises all day long. The new ranking system is just boring and doesn't make me want to play anymore than 3 games at a time.

You could see what % you were toward your next (or previous) rank. Sure there was almost no chance in hell to get to 50 unless you cheated, but I still found it to be the most fun and challenging. The second account is the whole reason there are no more number ranks. It's almost ironic that their own tool (2nd accounts) became their undoing. Makes me wonder if it was never exploited if it would've been carried over to reach.

Because the system is based on percentiles and individual play in Reach, you actually have to be good to reach top 1% in Onyx as opposed to H3 where you could get three good players to play with you and carry you up to a 50.

  • I actually don't miss it at all. I didn't like the way they paired people up in that system. The way it works here makes much more sense. You have to consistently be good or you don't have that rating to show how good you are.

  • Don't miss it at all. If you want a ranking play arena and have fun in the other playlists. IMO the rankings ruined the game and the way people played at the high levels was just not fun because all they cared about was a number next to their name.

  • For ranking up in Reach you just have to play the game a lot. For ranking up in Halo 3 you would actually have to implement some skill. I prefer Reachs system because it's more laid back, but I do miss how you actually had to use skill to be a certain rank.

  • There is a true skill rating still they just dont show it. That way people wont sell 50s because you cant show off that you have a 50 so there is no point in buying one.
