It's almost like when people said for years on this board, "matchmkaing end-game activities will just end with frustration and quitters" we were right.
You need premade teams for difficult content, otherwise you'll just have frustration and quitters.

This is why people with brains suggested optional matchmaking. Solo, duo, or trio fireteam. Or enter matchmaking and roll the dice.
-
I was one of those debts adjusted optional matchmaking the implementation that bungie came up with is not refined enough filtering matchmaking. Guided game feels more like a cookie cutter. We need more optional matchmaking filters
-
I agreed with that suggestion when it was a discussion on the boards and still do. But I will stand by my stance that often such will lead to frustration and quitters. The more challenging the content, the more cohesive and communicative of a group is needed.
-
I'm not sure about that. One of dozens of examples I've mentioned over the years: My youngest son and I found it easier to get exotic sword quests competed in D1 if it were just the 2 of us, and not a random. Optional matchmaking would have allowed that. Now with strikes and NFs, sometimes I'll only play with one other (my preference), and enjoy it more. Bungie already scales damage based on number of guardians present. Why not do the same thing with these other activities you're referring to? They don't because of forced matchmaking - so it isn't necessary.
-
In fact, your anecdote actually supports my statement - as i'm sure you and your son are quite cohesive and communicative when playing together =)

Edited by JasperGTR: 5/14/2018 2:55:17 PMOh, I agree - some activities are easier with communication. Others don't require it. Some like it that way, some don't. Some can do activities without communication. Some prefer solo'ing. Why not all of the above get their preference? I'm not for forced matchmaking, and I'm not for solo queues... Optional matchmaking would resolve both sides.
Optional matchmaking would resolve both sides.
I agree. I've said as much already. Doesn't change the premise of my statements though. =)

Hey it’s me🙋🏻♂️ just logged on and Launched a Heroic Strike.. got to the second encounter on a Mars strike and wiped like 7x.. back to GoW😂
-
It's a heroic strike...
-
I know sir. My point stands.
-
An activity that gives no good loot should not require a premade team...
-
Naw, man. Matchmaking is what keeps this game afloat. You watch.. in a month everyone will be levelled properly and will be playing smart instead of running ahead solo. The most satisfying thing in Destiny to me is playing with randoms and getting it done, then get the loot and share emotes around the box.
-
Certain content I agree. All content, I disagree
-
Not all content, but heroic strikes should always have random matchmaking, IMO. I love running with randoms with my headset off. I can barely hear anything when I am running in a fireteam. Something is off with the audio levels in D2. I didn't have that problem in D1.
-
I agree, but understand there will be frustration and quitters.
-
Of course. Some players just aren't very good. It will get better though. You know, I looked to see how many times I died in the one I did Tuesday(5 times, apparently), but you know what I noticed while looking? I have run two of my characters through the DLC so far, neither one my main... and I never died once during the missions. In TTK I died a LOT running solo in missions. Those three taken witches in the tunnels, the Echo in Cayde's Stash... Fear's Embrace made me want to break my controller, tv, AND Xbone... I just don't understand why this game us focusing on casual play and hardcore play, with no in- between.

BS This is way harder than nightfall with no way to power up and zero rewards. Idiotic
-
Way harder than regular nightfall, sure. Not prestige nightfall. Regular Strikes -> Regular Nightfall -> Heroic Strikes -> Prestige Nightfall
-
I ran prestige Nightfall the first month this game was out. It was easier. We got it second attempt.
-
That's valid, but the problem is that HS by your own admission are the second hardest of the strike lists, and don't even drop gear as high as the recommended level of the activity. That's absolutely ridiculous.
-
They drop gear that will get you to the soft cap and +5 more with mods. I agree, Bungie made the mistake of thinking all of the community enjoyed that much challenge. Doing them at 340-345 was some of the most fun i've had in Destiny in some time honestly...but I can see how a lot of people were expecting 350+ drops after beating them. Maybe they should've allowed Heroics to get you to 355 (with mods) for preparation towards Prestige Nightfall...but hey, it's week 1 with the new content =)
-
That's what I think. I love the challenge, don't like the low rewards. I expect to progress when doing these types of activities.
-
Don't get me wrong, I think Warmind went a long way in the right direction. And it's not the difficulty so much that bothers me. I was excited to see mods come back to HS. But I also remember getting very frustrated in Destiny 1 over the fact that players would quit constantly in the HS list. And I know that with Milestones, all players can still eventually hit max power. I for one hope to get higher by next week because I am excited to tackle escalation protocol. PoE/CoE was my personal favorite end game content, and this looks to be similar. But overall it does seem that we were just given tedium rather than meaningful content. I am loving the gun play even more, especially after the exotic reworks. I just hope that they consider either toning HS down to a point where less players quit or up the rewards to maybe 355....
-
Good points, fair views.
-
They aren't quitting due to end game content they're rightfully leveled for though and that's the difference. What they're doing is joining content that's 10 levels above them, and wondering why they're getting trashed. Obviously if they put matchmaking for the Raid or Nightfall they could still restrict that to people who are the proper level to get it done. The current system doesn't have that check in place, but it's seriously not rocket science... You make it seem like matchmaking for this type of stuff can't be done in a logical way. It's also funny that now the Nightfall is 80 levels easier than Heroic Strikes, and yet still doesn't have matchmaking - what's the excuse there?
