To paraphrase two of my favorite pop psycholoists: When you see someone who is getting irrationally angry about something, its usually because they are going on about a TOPIC that isn't the real ISSUE. Xol and Nokris aren't the real issue. Both Crota and Oryx were story mission boss fights, that only became raid bosses when we decided to challenge them both in their throne worlds. Also there is a clear narrative of our Guardians getting stronger over time (The Traveller is AWAKE NOW, people....) The real issue is three things. 1. You have a "lore community' that is a lot like the Star Wars community. They feel their emotional investment in the story gives them ownership over the story...and they're mad because Bungie isn't telling them the story they WANT. (Check out this weeks "Fireteam Chat" to see a perfect example of this. One of the hosts goes off on the campaign story...and when pressed by the other co-hosts, he's clearly got nothing other than "Bungie isn't telling me the story I want, so-story-bad". ) 2. You have segments of the community that are still bitter over the failed re-branding of Destiny 2....and how long its taking to repair the damage. So----like a disillusioned spouse---they're casting about looking for anything and everything to use as a vehicle to express their anger, frustration and disappointement. (When a wife loses her shit over her husband chewing his dinner too loudly...the problem really isn't how loud he's chewing.) 3. The game's fundamental, divisive nature. This game has attracted players from all across the spectrum of gaming....and we've all come here with our own ideas of what this game "should be"....and this ONE game can't be everything to everyone. There are going to be "winner" and "losers" in that struggle to determine the "destiny" of Destiny (sorry). ...and the losers, unfortumately (ala point 2...and like in other areas of life) don't go away quietly. They come back here, and make their anger and resentment known. And bitching about the boss fights is a convenient way to do that.

  • It's not that Bungie isn't telling the story we want, it's that they contradict their own narrative and consistently make hyped up characters in the lore who just end up being disappointments. Osiris and brother Vance were mysterious and cool in D1, we were so excited to see more of them. Well, come D2, they changed brother Vance into a bubbly Osiris Fanboy, and Osiris was hardly even in his own DLC! Ana Bray was supposed to be a gunslinger of legendary caliber who died/vanished on the battlefield years ago. But now she just turns up again with not even the slightest explanation of her "death", and she does almost nothing but argue with Zavala. Addition: It's still unclear how Zavala knew about the Warmind vault on mars and how he knew where Ana and our Guardian would be exactly in the cut scene. It's not that Bungie isn't telling the story we want. It's that their story is inconsistent and fragmented. I'm so hyped about the Nine and their mysterious, metaphysical lore right now, but I'm probably going to just be disappointed again.

  • They aren’t contradicting themselves. People skip parts of the lore. People skip in game activities that advance the story—like Adventures—-because they’re impatient. People don’t stop to THINK about what they’re being told. Then they react emotionally and blame Bungie. Ana was the Gunslinger of legend. But like Zavala she has evolved for a front-line fighter to a LEADER. She left because she and Zavala couldn’t agree about what to do about Rasputin and she couldn’t abide by Vanguard rules about not looking into their pasts as Guardians. Because—-as a Bray, and one Rasputin’s creators—-understanding here past was important to understanding Rasputin and potentially making Golden Age technology available to the Vanguard in the defense of humanity. The argument in Rasputin’s chamber summed up the conflict. Zavala is too fearful to see the benefits because he’s to set in his ways and (like Saladin) can’t see past the conflict with the Rasputin fragment in the Cosmodrome. While Ana is too enthusiastic and reckless. Seeing only the benefits and not the risks. The benefits are real. Because of her efforts it apparatus that Rasputin is finally whole again, and is willing to ally with the Vanguard because of his coonection her. As she scolds Zavala, “This is a war of many fronts, and there is more than one way to fight it.” Therefore what she is doing—in breaking Vanguard rules and recovering her family history and family’s work—will be more valuable than running missions as a Gunslinger. Or worse shooting people in the Crucible. That’s the problem with backseat driving. You often don’t know the destination, and can’t see the road as clearly as the person actually driving.

  • All issues with the user, none with the creator, got ya. That's a way more balanced view on things than the other side has, pat yourself on the shoulder for me. Bungie swag is on its way.

Seven months into this process, and in this particular instance? Yep. In the real world, both Crota and Oryx were story-mission boss fights. They were only raid bosses when we pursued them into their throne worlds to destroy them permanently. So there is NO narrative or IN UNIVERSE basis why either Nokris or Xol (the two runts) should have been raid bosses when we're fighting them on Mars. Therefore, like Omingul came back (Age of Triumph) after we killed her in The Dark Below, it is HIGHLY likely that neither Nokris nor Xol are PERMANENTLY dead. That they were simply **defeated** not **destroyed**. Therefore very likely that we'll have to face them again at some point. So the fight was more about ensuring the safety of Rasputin, and not really about the final defeat of either of these figures. But these are points that you only realize when you stop BLINDLY REACTING...and actually take the time to THINK, and try to see things from Bungie's point of view.

  • I'm rather new to Destiny (2-3 months) and honestly can't be bothered with the story in the first place. Since Bungie makes zero effort in this game to remotely explain anything about the world I'm playing in, I also won't make the effort to read some comic or websites that are supposed to fill these giant plotholes in the narrative. I was told I'm fighting a god, and I expected an epic fight. What I got was 2-3 minutes auto fire without even moving or thinking too much.
