let's find the legendary/alternate ending...

bungie confirmed the legendary ending (skip to 12:47)

but apparently there is none, so far all the endings on all the difficulties are the same.
i'm calling it the alternate ending now, because if it exists, it doesn't have anything to do with just beating the game on legendary.

Some Possibilities?
BOBS- The nickname bungie has given to a special class of Elites in campaign mode. They are Ranger type elites with golden armor (picture: [url]http://www.haloreachplanet.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/lead-image-spec-op-golden-elite1.jpg[/url]. They are assumed to be in all campaign levels. The ones that have been found are listed in this thread: [url]http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=50377939&v iewreplies=true[/url]
NOTE: We are pretty sure we've found all the BOBS and they don't do anything yet, maybe something later with DLC?
HIDDEN SWITCHES: Hidden switches have been found on some campaign levels. Some of these activate easter eggs, others appear to do nothing. Maybe there are 7 to be found (of the ones that don't do anything)?
UPDATE-Hidden Switches on Sword Base activate warthog race minigame.
UPDATE-Hidden Switches on The Package make 4 banshees appear. The point of these banshees is still unknown.
UPDATE-Hidden Switches on New Alexandria let you fly a pelican.

Why Hasn't It Been Found By Hackers?

"And for those saying "Hackers will have found the legendary ending by now!" they wouldn't have, heres why. The game makes cut scenes using in game resources, in this case your armor.
Supposing the ending is an eagles landing on your helmet. Instead of bungie creating 80+ pre-rendered cinematics they simply have a script or a set action to follow for shading, color, etc."

There are 21 helmets and if you include 2 attachments (3 for pilot) that is 64 variations. 18 left and right shoulder pieces, 18 chest pieces, 6 wrist attachments, 6 utilities, 5 visor colors, and 4 knee guards. All these include the defaults. 64x18x18x18x6x6x5x4 = 268,738,560

i doubt bungie is as sadistic as making us play any of the levels for "hours." if it exists, i think it's a puzzle-type problem. i like the armor-code idea.

First Possibility: It may have to do with key wording in the Data Pads, or even key wording in the Tribute Room. Have you tried putting together every fifth word? Every tenth? What about something crazy, like every second word with more than three letters? Second Possibility: There may be a secret Data Pad hidden away from plain sight in the mission "New Alexandria". The developers could have put the pelican easter egg in so that we could find such Data Pad. Have you tried going everywhere, outside the map, maybe far into the mountains? Down below, right before the barrier? Or maybe beyond the space elevators far away, the ones that take about 20 minutes to get to with a Phantom. Third Possibility: There may be secret loading points. Or secret checkpoints, even secret objectives, or arrows. They could maybe be on any difficulty, at any place. An objective could unlock, maybe, several hours into playing Winter Contingency on Mythic. The search has been on for months, and basically nothing has been found. The campaign needs to be stripped down to the merest pixel of existence. Something must be found. If a legendary ending was confirmed, then there will be one.

No that method does not work. People have tried hours on end. Even on SLASO ( Solo Legendary All Skulls On). It's been posted probably about a hundred times, that's probably why the other guy got mad. Don't worry about it. inafter thread lock [Edited on 01.01.2011 9:56 AM PST]

Really though, people have looked through the game files, there is no legendary ending. Unless if Bungie releases it secretly in an update or DLC, there is currently none. It simply is not on the disk.

This probably doesnt help but I did find a secret room in the mission the package. Go on youtube and look it up. Rooster teeth. (i would put the link below but i am on am ipod)

ir does not exist if it did we would of found it already, remember how quickly we found how to fly the pelican once we discovered it was possible, less than a day so if people have been ;looking for a legendary ending for about 3 months than it most likely will not exist
