As it stands, the Trowing Knife is a bit underwhelming. Yeah, it can be thrown pretty far and yes it can get precision hits. However, it’s more of a “high skill-low reward” kind of ability because the moment you miss you wasted your ability and have to wait 30 seconds for it to charge.
I propose a simple rework for Throwing Knife that will make it more viable without it becoming overpowered in any sense. I propose a rework that allows Throwing Knives to be retrieved by the user. Basically, this is allowing the Gunslinger to retrieve their Throwing Knife and let them feel as if they didn’t waste their melee.
How it works-
Upon impact on a target or nearby surroundings, an icon is placed on the Gunslinger’s screen that shows them the location of the knife and how much time they have to pick it up.
For example: A Gunslinger is trying to kill a Dreg with his Throwing Knife but misses. The Throwing Knife icon displays and shows where the knife went and that the Gunslinger has about 5 seconds to retrieve the knife. Retrieval functions similarly to how you pick up power ammo. If time runs out and the Gunslinger didn’t get his knife, he has to wait for it to recharge. If he manages to retrieve the knife within the timeframe, he has gotten his knife back and can try and throw it again. If the Gunslinger were to hit the target but it isn’t killed, the icon will still show and the Gunslinger can either finish it off and retrieve it or run up to it and quickly snatch it back. The same logic applies in PvP.
How it effects Explosive Knife and Knife Juggler-
These abilities won’t be changed too much. However, Knife Juggler, upon a precision knife kill, will automatically retrieve your knife so you won’t have to go out and get it.
TL;DR-
Rework the Throwing Knife so the player has a 5 second opportunity to pick it up in a similar fashion to taking power ammo, allowing for a more forgiving ability and a bit more utility.
