Bungie knows exactly what they're doing. The only reason the "Prismatic Matrix" was tucked into the bottom half of a weekly update was to pre-empt any backlash that's coming next week. For those who don't know,, this what Prismatic Matrix is:
·A line-up of ten Eververse items that rotate weekly
·You will never receive a duplicate drop
·It doesn't replace Bright Engrams, don't worry, you can still waste money on those too
·After your first level-up in a week, you will receive an "activation", which means you can roll the dice and get one item out of the ten available. This is only way to get one through playing.
·And naturally, you can purchase more activations for 200 silver each. Of course you can.
Now you might be asking, doesn't this seem like a great idea to reward people with cosmetics for completing endgame activities? Like, complete a raid, get an activation for a week, play Trials, and get one, etc. etc...
You'd be right, it is a great idea, it's what people were asking for when #RemoveEververse was a thing. But no, instead of making it not a slot machine, you get one a week, and after that you have to buy more if you want them.
I don't think introducing another MTX system into a game with a 90% player base drop is really that smart.
I think they're scared. I think they're losing so much potential money on microtransactions that adding more ways to pay is their only option. And it's sad because this is erasing any good will they've been trying to build up, at least for me.

It's more like a random slot machine. Gambling is a very specific word when you get old enough and go do it possibly later on. We aren't winning any money or prizes in the real world. So no. This is what is called a Calculated Number Engine. You get a random number, go turn it in, and it ties itself to one of two choices. If you want to get out of Pay-to-Win aspects? Then you're going to have to convince those who purchase those items to never do it again and wait three months. Fact is, I'm a fan of the VA, but I only use what is free. My money is better served elsewhere. You younger kids should learn how to restrain yourself if a free service tied to sparrows and ships. Guns? You have an argument. Ships? Sparrows? No argument.

3 RepliesThis is 100% a move towards more defined paths and thus less reliant on gambling. Don't get me wrong. It still, 100%, makes use of gambling mechanics. But it is for sure a better system than what we had prior if people want to spend money and have a better idea what may come out the other end.

1 ReplyI’m confused, this is literally allowing players to CHOOSE what they want. No RNG here, except that you can get free prismatic doo-dads via world drops - which allows you to CHOOSE what you want. The stock rotates, you’ll have access to everything, and if you don’t have something and want it, you can choose to purchase the EXACT item you want with irl money. In 5 hours of play I leveled up 8 times and got 2 of the freebie prismatic things. If you play even a moderate level each week you will have zero issues with getting everything for free. This is probably the most generous microtransaction system in gaming. It’s time to move on and hold Bungie accountable for things like severe lack of content, horrid narrative, unbelievably short campaigns, uninteresting weapons and ugly-ass armor.

13 RepliesEdited by TheShadow-cali: 5/7/2018 5:18:25 AMI see good old Bungie loves playing their game. Whoops! scratch that. If they actually did it might not be such a huge mess and them looking to cash out again. Edit:Teaching kids and teens to gamble is disgusting No matter how anyone tries to justify it. As if Dawning wasn't enough BS this company pulled. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3qnr35_sZw People that support nonsense like this are the problem with games these days and that is a fact... Micro does Not belong a full priced game especially on how Bungie has gone about it. This is what it was intended for but where the hell is that content??? https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/13672
Our plan is to use these new items to bolster the service provided by our live team for another full year, as they grow and create more robust and engaging events that we’ll announce later this year. It has been, and continues to be, our goal to deliver updates to the game. Going forward, our live team is also looking to grow beyond vital updates and improvements to focus on world events, experiences, and feature requests.
Why don't some of you people that support this explain why it takes 7+ months just to get these updates and when this game does it gets barley anything that was offered to the player base. Yet this company is cashing out big time? https://youtu.be/ZH-85V8yejY I think the OP is right about Bungie being a little scared. They lost literally millions of gamers and part of that is because of the micro is becoming an on going problem with this company and it's getting worse as time goes on. But you people go ahead and support this nonsense and tell everyone how there is nothing wrong in creating a game built around Micro that is a full priced game, and it's not okay for gamers to ask this company to create actual content or them actually offer actual content.

4 RepliesAllrighty then HOW -blam!-ING -blam!- ARE YOU? DO YOU KNOW WHAT GAMBLING IS!? ITS NOT GAMBLING WHEN THEY LET YOU PICK WHAT YOU WANT.

11 RepliesIt's not gambling. This generation of self-entitled snowflakes makes me sick.

5 RepliesBungie committing suicide again, honestly i think they want this to happen. Either that or some one in charge has the worlds biggest ego and has deluded himself into believing that gamers can not survive without bungie. Either way its going to be entertaining. Watching bungie fall apart or finding out just how gullible gamers are.

I have gotten 5 of the 10 in about 10 hours of gameplay and haven't spent a dime.

I remember bungie advertising the job post for this a while back.

2 RepliesEdited by Kd: 5/8/2018 4:09:11 AMWait wait wait, I thought you got to choose an item from the ten, you telling me we get a “spin” that will randomly pick one from the ten? Cause if that’s the case, then I can’t wait to get another hundred shaders and mods, without a single piece of armour or ornament coming through. Edit: I just reread it, you’re on the money, or at least they are. Seriously. I was an avid defender of this game once upon a time. A chance of a roll from a chance list? Go to hell Bungie. This is the solution to a “more” direct path to gear. What a cleverly put together play on words, that clever guy should be writing the story, not the terms and conditions.

Edited by JJIBIIIS: 5/8/2018 10:33:55 AMPromoting the sale off silver to entice gambling with a free spin lol Guys and girls at Bungie, your days are numbered, what then if the game is built around Eververse, does it die with the gambling ban in your game? It’s easy to see how this game has been built around silver! It just needs someone with clout to address the silver having value and games up Bungie! Why not just loot boxes? Oh, I forgot? You needed to screw over the XP to put a further button in he mechanic to entice spending! I find it disgusting to be honest, kids play this and are easily manipulated due to the learning in years!

You can get them from playing crucible and strikes so not sure what the big deal is
-
1 ReplyI’ve gotten 3 so far for free. But hey! You go spend that money.
-
It needs to be changed definitely
-
Was MVP of a quick play match and got a node as a reward, don't no if that's normal or just random

8 RepliesRead the patch notes looking for a reason to return and play again. Bungie doubling down on this gambling crap ensured that won't happen. The prismatic matrix thing looks awful. I'm really sad this company turned evil so quickly. On a positive note: my decision on whether or not to purchase the expansion in the fall is already made.

3 RepliesYou know the game you play is bad when the new loot box system is deeper than your weapon pool and subclasses. remove the eververse forum nuke in t-60 hours.

7 RepliesEverworse. Look. Make every -blam!-ing item worth having some how, or don't sell it. Then sell them as in you put it in a store, and the player buys it, money spent, item sold. NO. MORE. -blam!-ING. GAMBLING. Stop gambling, or get out of the -blam!-ing industry and go open a casino somehwere. It is only a matter of time until this system is banned by federal law in almost every country. Several countries you sell your product in have already started the preliminary phases to banning it out right which means that any company that uses this kind of transaction will have to just give those items away for free to people who live in that country (making proxyservers in that country suddenly very desirable for gamers) or just have to ban anyone logging in from an IP in that country from playing the game, resulting in Sony, Microsoft, and Blizzard refunding them their money right out of your pocket... Get. Rid. Of. The. Gambling. If you want to sell things. Sell them. It's as simple as that. Make a product worth selling, and sell it. You realize this is just another reason why Warframe is a free to play game and is making more money then you. You idiots have made less money with two games then Warfame has with one. And Warframe is free. The fact you can't figure out you're doing something wrong is -blam!-ing pathetic.

1 ReplyI love everyone thinking Bungie is turning things around with Warmind and trying to make the game better and they just go and announce prismatic matrix to get more money from people lol. Bungie is a joke. #RemoveEververse
-
My favorite part is how they even visually designed the prismatic matrix to look like some sort of mini game. It actually looks like you are literally playing on a slot machine with the goal to connect the lines, they're not even trying anymore to hide their greed.

Its pretty sad when the microtransaction mechanism has more depth than the entire subclass tree. #Bungiefail

Edited by Penhalion Wolfe: 5/7/2018 1:54:40 PMYep thanks to Bungie already ridiculous track record with this stuff. They are under a microscope whenever they add anything to do with Eververse. In this instance it's actually just plain disgusting. You basically have a mechanism where a child is shown a bunch of desirable items then told that they can play to get one random item from that list. To get any of the others they need to actually spend money. The stupid thing is that all they had to do was allow you to choose which item you wanted from the list. It was that simple. If you wanted all the items then you could simply buy them but, you'd always know exactly which item you were getting. How this concept didn't enter their minds is beyond a joke. How was it better to introduce MORE gambling mechanics into the game instead of removing them and simply allowing the player to buy what they wanted with one free item from the pool each week. I will have zero sympathy for Bungie when their game is banned from European countries and starts to get restricted in the US due to promotion of under age gambling. Edit: In case anyone missed it. Even the Activision call didn't mention Destiny as one of their upcoming lucrative games! When even Activision are starting to say enough is enough you have to ask just what do Bungie think is going to happen!

I despise microtransactions but you have to realize the following about microtransactions in any game: 1. There is a small % of people that will do microtransactions because they have the money and do not care about the consequences these are the so called "whales". These are the primary target of the microtransactions. 2. There is a significant % of people that cannot control themselves when it comes to spending or are using spending money as a therapy or stress relief. Also it does not help that they are tapping into the current "instant gratifications" culture we have developed through psychological tricks. These are the secondary targets. 3. Some money from microtransactions is better than no money from microtransactions. As long as the marketing is done right the game does not need to be good for the end user. Convince enough people to buy it will net you a good number of the above gamer demographics. Microtransactions have made gaming an uglier hobby overall and games worse just consider the games in the past year and consider if you have not seen a game you looked forward that has not been tainted by microtransactions. Even single player games have been negatively affected. #RemoveEververse (not likely)
-
The problem with microtransactions is not that they are offering items that can be purchased with real money. At least it isn't a problem for me. I don't spend any money inside this game, and I don't have a problem if you do. The problem for me is that this game has so little fresh content, and the fact that it takes Bungie 6 months or more to fix anything. That in itself is bad enough, considering that everybody else can fix issues within a matter of weeks. But the problem is how many resources are Bungie diverting to developing systems and rewards for microtransactions, when they can't even service the core game in a timely manner, or be bothered to create meaningful DLC content?

10 RepliesSo help me, I just don't get the community. I try, and I try to foster conversations that will help us get to the final statements we want to hit Bungie with for enhancements, so we can present a better argument to the company. And then I get this kind of crap popping up, and I have to just about smash head to desk. I shouldn't even have to, but allow me to completely dismantle your idiocy in list form.
After your first level-up in a week, you will receive an "activation", which means you can roll the dice
- I get that you are saying that you can't just pick and item, and it's at randon, but this statement seems designed to make people think you only have a chance to get something: the truth is, you will, 100% get one of the 10 knock-out items. If the exclusionary code is working (which it should be since it's probably based on old record book code), next time, you have a 1/9 chance of getting a specific item. And if you play for 30 minutes a week, you will have all 10 items in 10 weeks, for 5 or less hours of play time.
Now you might be asking, doesn't this seem like a great idea to reward people with cosmetics for completing endgame activities?
- Whereas it does, end game doesn't even enter into it, it's any activity you like. Nothing about this relates to the end game, it's just a progressing / investment system. You could get it for prestige raid lairs, or for doing kill patrols. End game isn't involved in this system at all.
But no, instead of making it not a slot machine, you get one a week, and after that you have to buy more if you want them.
- It's not a slot machine. If you decided to buy all 10 activations, you would have all 10 items. That's not a gamble or game of chance, that's a literal 1 for 1. Since it has been advertised as a knock-out list, if you do spend whatever it will cost, and don't get all 10 items, you have legal grounds to pursue Bungie; if nothing else, you'd be refunded. And honestly, who can't wait the extra 9 weeks to get more dress-up options? It's not like cosmetics matter for anything but collecting. You can do anything you like in game without them, I promise you.
I don't think introducing another MTX system into a game with a 90% player base drop is really that smart.
- Even thought microtransactions in this game might not have been a good idea overall, this is the smartest MTX they have introduced to D2. Why? Because it's not pay for exclusives, or pay to be able to get stuff, it's pay to get it faster. If you put even minimal effort into the game, you will, 100%, get all this stuff. For an additional cost, you can have all of it on day 1. And if you spend $X.XX, you will 100% get all of the items, so you know exactly what it will cost you to get it all early, up front. If anyone remembers, this is what people were screaming for during the infamous first scandal of Festival of the Cost. Why is the original ask suddenly no longer good enough? Especially since you can avoid all of this just by being patient?
I think they're scared. I think they're losing so much potential money on microtransactions that adding more ways to pay is their only option.
- I think the forums have a short damned memory. Remember not all that long ago, when everyone was up in arms about them hiring a progression specialist to work out new ways to make EV work with us, to generate more sales, and retool the progression system of the optional rewards? Yeah, everyone in the anti-crowd lit the torches and sharpened the pitchforks over that one. This is the end result: a series of items that you will get all of if you grind out the levels, but you can pay a set amount to get immediately get them today. This is actually progress in how they are handling the more exclusive MTX items: no one is locked out, some will elect for paid early access. I wouldn't pay for it personally, but I can see that there are people that certainly will. It just goes to show: don't give us things we want, we'll piss and moan. Give us things more in line with what we want: we'll still piss and moan. Yes, ideally there will be a lot more earnable gear in the game this time around, and the addition of the exotic catalysts will certainly help with that, but having a no-lock-out cosmetic set is a hell of a lot better than an RNG pay-only set. It's nowhere near perfect, but it's a lot better than just tossing it into the EV pool.
