Parental Control Issue

I’ve set up my son for a child account on XBL. Everything is correct as far as I can tell across all of the Microsoft options, Xbox Settings, Preferences etc. We can play multiplayer together on our own characters in Sea of Thieves and Elite Dangerous. But the one game that we actually want to play together is Destiny 2. He loves it, and I want him to stop playing my character and using my materials :) However, every time I try to sign him in and do an initial set up for the game on his XB1 I get a message that says: PARENTAL CONTROLS You must have access to online multiplayer gameplay in order to play Destiny 2. For more information, visit help.bungie.net This would be helpful if it pointed me to the specific topic, but I have searched here and around the inter webs and have come up empty. I checked with the dads in my clan who have this same set up working for their kids and we did the troubleshooting together and still came away scratching our heads. I’d love some help and a point in the right direction because we’d really love to play together starting with Warmind. For what its worth, I did just do a full wipe and reset of his XB1 and clean install of D2. Thanks! ObviousLogic

  • Did you ever get this resolved? I’m running into the same issue, and this thread is the only place on the internet that I can find talking about it... I’m in the exact same position, with my son playing Fortnite, Rocket League and other games online on our “home” console, and his settings are wide open, but we’re getting the same error code, and my XBL sub is good through Sept 2019, and my card on file isn’t expired.

    • Later on in your posts, you mentioned same Xbox, but in your post above, you mention that you play multiplayer together in several other games, all of which require you to use two different consoles. The first thing to check would be to double check that the console you're trying to allow him to play on is actually your home console. If it isn't, change it so that it is. You didn't specify if you were gamesharing the licenses for the other games or Destiny 2, but since you're saring your XBL Gold subscription, the above is a necessary question. (I'm assuming it's already your home, but double check). Second is to insure that your son's account has downloaded the unlock keys using his account instead of yours. After you've done so (or if you have already), then try clearing the cache by unplugging the console for 30 seconds to 1 minute, and trying again. Last thing to check is to see if your payment information is fully up to date on your Microsoft account. Sometimes, weird things happen if credit cards expire, especially when sharing XBL Gold. Good luck.

        • Hello, Unfortunately you should contact Xbox Support to solve issues with your Microsoft account. I do know you will need access to Multiplayer, User Generated Content, and player access to the rating level of the Destiny 2 game in your region. https://support.xbox.com/ Xbox One online safety and privacy settings for parents and children Change your child’s Xbox privacy and online safety settings
