Escalation Protocol Rewards

Hey folks, seeing a number of questions on how the rewards will work in Escalation Protocol so I wanted to try to clear it up a bit and get folks on the same page without people needing to stalk my Twitter timeline (which, as it is finally going to be nice in Seattle this weekend, will probably mostly be cats/beer/drone flying) Escalation Protocol rewards are split up in to 3 main channels: vanity, weapons, and armor. Each channel operates a little bit different to give people different pursuits and provide rewards at different rates/tiers. I think the diversity of this reward delivery is something we haven't done a lot of in Destiny 2, so I'm super curious how it feels once you get your hands on it. That aside, let's jump in! Vanity: These rewards are low drop chance, and can come out of any Escalation Protocol chest you open during the event. The further in you get, the higher chance the chest has to grant one of the EP exclusive vanity items. However, even if you can only clear up to wave 3 (the first wave that spawns a chest upon completion) then you can get a chance (admittedly very low...) at getting one of the vanity items. EP has an exclusive Ship, Sparrow, and Ghost. Weapons: These are your grindable rewards. They don't drop as power upgrades past the soft cap (so you'll want to infuse something in to them if you're past 340) but you can spend as much time chasing them in a week as you want. They're a low drop chance from the wave 7 boss, and the reward pool changes for the different bosses. Three of the bosses have a specific weapon (between shotgun, sniper rifle, and smg) tied to them and will only drop that weapon. The other two bosses can drop any of the three weapons if you just want to grind and roll the dice. Armor: The armor set comes from a chest that appears after beating the wave 7 boss. This chest requires a key to open, and characters can earn one key a week by playing other Warmind activities to build and charge their key. The armor pieces that come out of the chest are awarded in a specific order, and you won't see repeats until you've collected the entire armor set. The order is Class Item -> Legs -> Arms -> Chest -> Head. (If you're wondering why Class Item is first, well, I main a Hunter. Capes for life.) I should note that while not really part of one of the three main reward channels, the unique Escalation Protocol shader is one of my personal favorites (because I love orange) and comes from killing the final boss. Hope this clears up any confusion, and let me know if there are any other questions about EP rewards I can hopefully help with.

    • My biggest problem with EP is the fact that it basically requires 9 people to do it, and if you don't have enough people and aren't high enough (I've been in a group of 6 all 375+ and still couldn't get past level 4) then you're basically just wasting time and ammo because you won't get anywhere. At least in Destiny 1 with stuff like this you could do it with just 3 people, even if you weren't that high and even if it was a challenge you still got SOME kind of reward for at least attempting things, but with EP you get jack shit unless you can somehow pull enough people who are all 385+ and ALL have Sleepers/Whispers. There should definitely be some kind of rewards for the lower levels, even if it's just lower powered gear, it's still something and still makes EP at least worth attempting (like give a chest at level 4 and then another at level 7). Not even Court of Oryx was this bad. Honestly it just seems like Bungie is saying "screw you" to anybody who doesn't have enough friends to actually do this stuff with.

      • I’ve been playing escalation protocols for quite a bit, and I am now up to 42 bosses defeated without one single weapon drop. At this rate i’ll reach to 100 bosses defeated for a can get one weapon reward, which I think is just ridiculous.

      • Don't waste your time if you want weapons. Drop rates are that abhorrent you'll need to spend 6 hours farming the crap.

      • Anyone know the name of the sparrow and ship? I just dont want to break them down accidently again. I dont usually save purples the ghost is called BLOCK-Z SHELL i haven't found anything that lists them yet so im asking.

        • If I didn’t do EP last week, am I permitted to do it twice this week to get the class item and legs? Or will next week be legs bc I only get one reward per week?

          • First off I appreciate you coming here introducing yourself and telling us what to expect . It can’t be easy with the toxicity of the forums . With that said : I’m really concerned about this becoming stale real quick. This is an end game activity and should provide power level up. 3 guns hurts the appeal as well. Prison of elders had 3 unique exotics and multiple weapon types of each class. Thats what kept people playing it for a long time. You have to realize that when you have static rolls on the weapons and armor you have to increase the loot pool which hasn’t happened as of yet. Doesn’t sound like it will happen either for warmind . I was really looking forward to this activity and your clarification has had the opposite effect. All we need guys is good worthwhile loot. I really hope your keeping all the good stuff hidden. I really want to enjoy playing in the destiny universe again and being rewarded in game for my effort.

              Have attempted this more than a dozen time with players as high as 350 so far. Never pass the 3 Rd boss. The closest I got was 6 players all popped super and we got him to 20 percent health with 1 minute left. It then seemed like the boss was invincible because the amount of heavys we shot should've killed him but he just barley lost health when in the last bar of his health. Oh and where are these keys we are supposed to charge? Boss one and two never drop anything.

                Sounds good but why only shotgun smg and sniper the 3 gun types I don’t use 😭😭 Well no point in playing once I have the ship lol Also how is this end game as rewards only drop at soft cap? If you don’t give us a reason to play it as end game then it isn’t end game

                  I’m ok with this being really hard and progressive. What I’m not ok with is that it drops gear at the 340 cap when it’s a 370 activity. The gear should drop up to its own LL of 370. Hell cap it once week per character if you must slow down the grind. This is gonna lose steam fast for this reason.

                  • 340 power rewards? R u -blam!-ing kidding me!? Who made that call? Seriously u guys had a -blam!-ing summit and everything and u decided that was a good move to make? Yea ppl wanna do some of the highest level activity for the lowest level rewards, I was 340 after the first mission this is bullshit I was so excited for protocol, that was the one thing I was looking forward too. That like if I did the raid and only got blues as a reward but no big deal I’ll just go -blam!- myself 👌

                    from what I see, it's rather hard for a group of 340s to get past level 1, let alone level 2. the rewards don't start until level 3 I believe (after you beat 3 that is) and you mean to tell me that they won't drop higher than 340? when the recommanded light when you die says 370? After I do all 7 levels for kicks and laughs why would I ever want to do that again?

                      • And solo players are getting, by far, the biggest slap in the face in Destiny franchise history with this expansion. You even took away 1 of the few choices solo players have now to level up by capping the Clan XP reward at 340....

                          • Daniel, what are my incentives to play this event? Before you say power this event is soft cap, this can be reached from in game drops and decrypting earned engrams. So no point. Specific loot, well I use a scout, HC, auto, pulse, rockets and occasionally a sword. Non of them there in your event eh. So no point Armour eh, is that what's gonna pull me in?, depends on the stats of said armour right, I mean if it's the same stats as the ones I currently wear and like what's the benefit? So no point again The one thing that would have kept me and my clan coming back would have been the chance to level up, even if max was 370 and you reached 380 in raid/trials/IB and prestige nightfalls, but no, soft cap so No Point. Thanks for your effort and all the development time and programming put into this event, which will die off very quickly. You could have spent all the effort making a new awesome longer raid.

                              • The event recommends 370 players, but gives out 340 rewards.... do you honestly think that when players hit 370, they will come back to this event? Hell, as a 350 player who BARELY beat level 1, I don't see a reason to work myself through a bulletsponge event for a 340 drop. Players want PROGRESSION. It doesn't need to be to the level cap on day 1, but at least past the first waves of the soft cap. It's ridiculous that you would have a 370 event, yet constrain the players to 340 rewards. This was a complaint in Court of Oryx, this was a complaint with the first attempt at infusion during the Taken King and this was the complaint when we received purple engrams and got a blue. The APPEARANCE is progression, but we are not rewarded with progressive items.

                                  • Its going to take a ton of grinding and a few weeks before people can clear this and be able to farm it to level 7. The fukin ogre at the end of level 1 is ridiculously difficult given the amount of time you have to kill it. I get whats going on with this activity. I do like the expansion. It just sucks that we cant even get past the first ogre and there are 7 stages....bleh.. Which tells me that only hardcore players will ever do the level 7 and matchmaking will be a ghost town in a month or so. Idk. Maybe im wrong.

                                    • Personally i dont think recommended light should be 380 from the jump if the rewards only go to the soft cap. How about make their light level increase the higher you go.

                                        • It makes me kind of angry that you guys took out the Wardcliff giving ammo when you switch to other weapons. That time could have been spent adding power ammo synths to the game so we wouldnt have to use the glitch anyways.
