I will try and do my best to breakdown the skill trees to help players determine when to use each skill tree.
Let's begin.
Code of the Fire-forged:
I LOVE this subclass.
It's a subclass that tanks and spanks so unbelievably hard that I'm surprised cayde hasn't cried...you know...cause he likes tanks and...never mind.
The super is this skill trees biggest advantage, with explosive pyre and Vulcans embers, this super DEMOLISHES ads in pve.
I've tested both skill trees out and I've actually come to the conclusion that these hammers, despite a lower hammer count, actually deal better dps than the Siegebreaker hammers.
Now, you are probably thinking "oh well that's because of the embers" and although that is partially true, the damage caused by each hammer is actually far more noticeable for each hammer than it is for the siegebreakers.
Although it has less hammers, it appears to deal, with embers, roughly 1.9-2x damage per hammer compared to the siegebreakers hammers which can be critical for boss dps and ad control.
Ad control, and this is where things get fun.
Who can possibly resist the thought of every hammer you throw blowing something up, only for it to set out little embers, blow up 3 more times, and then cause the enemies corpse to fly and explode once again for crazy damage?
I've never been able to resist the sound of explosive pyre popping the enemy one by one until there is nothing left.
It clears trash ads so unbelievably well and easily that I'm surprised stormcallers haven't sued yet.
It's so good for ad control that it's not even funny.
The hammer strike, oh boy do you make me happy.
I've always liked the sun charge in Destiny 1 and although I personally miss it on my super, I can't say I don't still love it as my melee.
Although I am unclear as to how much extra damage enemies take that are afflicted by this, I'm going to assume it's somewhere close to Destiny 1's 50% for melting point.
Now, the reason I like it so much, is because it can be used to debuff multiple targets thanks to the new aoe they added to the shoulder charge melees.
Although it no longer works on raids bosses, which is unfortunate, it can be used to help you and your allies DESTROY strike bosses and normal high health ads in pve.
In crucible, although it's extremely risky, you can use the melee to help your allies down targets at a far faster rate and it's usefulness has no end.
Tempered metal, the underrated perk on sunbreaker.
Getting kills with solar abilities grants tempered metal, which increases allies movement speed and reload speed.
Particularly in pve, this perk can be a great tool for improving dps against high health bosses and also make it a little tougher for targets to shoot you.
At a 3x stack, the reload speed should be very fast for all weapons and your strafe and jumping speed should have increased quite a bit as well.
Now something to help you sunbreakers who are having some issues against pesky nightstalkers in crucible.
This skill tree, because of the tracking, actually grants you a bit of aim assist to use against targets who are waiting to run around the corner and shut you down.
If you are waiting at the end of the hallway for an enemy to come around the corner, the aim assist will actually start dragging your reticle to show you "where" the enemy is, usually leading you to where the hammer could be thrown to kill unsuspecting targets.
This can be extremely useful for protecting yourself and killing your targets
As for the super itself, I've come to a conclusion that the fire-forged tree actually wastes less energy mid super whilst moving compared to the Siegebreaker one when you don't have sunwarrior active.
This helps it be a more effective and efficient super for crucible.
Another thing you guys probably didn't know, is that the fire-forged hammers can actually pop a cataclysm nova bomb in one hit, same thing for sentinels shields.
Now If you are wondering if the Siege breakers hammers can do the same, unfortunately they can't.
I've thrown about 5-6 hammers at a blocking sentinel and he didn't even slow down.
Now my personal favorite.
Code of the Siegebreaker:
I love watching things burn, I particularly love watching my enemies burn...no I'm not a pyromaniac.
This subclass is useful in different ways than fire-forged, and although it has an over all weaker super than fire-forged is, it still is unbelievably powerful in other ways.
Let's go!
The health regen, this beautiful perk, cauterize the wound, burn the whole back together...that basically summarizes that perk.
Sol invictus is the perk that grants health regen on ability kill and leaves a sunspot on the enemies dead burning bodies.
This perk is the bread and butter of what makes this skill tree so effective.
Although it's not a full health regen, every kill does grant a large portion of health back, which to me is actually more useful in the heat of battle because regen stops on a single bit of damage you take.
This perk, particularly for pve, allows for this subclass to sustain itself to victory.
Now let start with the true reason it's such a good perk.
Sun warrior is why this skill tree is so great.
Standing in sunspots grants you faster grenade and melee recharge on top of longer super duration for a duration of 3 seconds which refreshes as long as you stay inside of or walk back into a sunspot.
Now, if you guys are wondering how much faster your abilities recharge, well prepare to be "wowed," even if you don't have any ability recharge mods on, this perk cuts the recharge time of your abilities down to a beautiful 15-18 seconds, aka, faster than Destiny 1, simply for standing in a sunspot.
Now, if you are wondering how long it increases the duration of your super, it allows you to throw a maximum of 11 hammers which is nearly double the amount of normal.
This can be incredibly powerful for crucible and for pve, getting abilities and health regen on top of burning everything is incredibly fun.
I'll tell you guys about something interesting later down in my post.
Endless siege, the super enhancing tool of might.
Each hammer you throw leaves a sun spot and while sun warrior is active, you can throw hammers at 2x the speed.
I love this perk so much because it removes one of the main weaknesses to sunbreaker, which is hammer throwing speed.
Now, there is one problem with the sunspots that I personally don't like, the damage of the sunspots doesn't stack, so even if you throw multiple hammers, the damage doesn't stack so the only extra damage comes from the hammers themselves.
Another big problem has to be the blast radius and damage.
Even though the super has more hammers...they really don't do all that much to higher healthed targets, which is a shame, but not too bad.
It can't break sentinel shields or nova bomb, but the sun spots can definitely hurt the enemies afterwards.
The melee...unfortunately sucks for pve.
It does low damage in pve and the burn doesn't really do all that much either.
In crucible however, the burn can beat the crap out of targets and it's fun to watch them die as you walk away.
This melee has unbelievably good knock back, well both of the charged melees do, but this melee in particular is better for knocking targets away because it doesn't require a start up.
If enemies are jumping in crucible, they can be launched pretty far to hit walls and take some heavy damage or knock them far enough away that they can't properly fight back against you as they burn away.
So, as a little tip that applies to both of the subclasses, if you use khepris horn, and kill enemies with the fire wave, the enemies will actually leave a sun spot for Siegebreaker or proc tempered metal for fire-forged, giving you a bunch of ways to proc your extra perks without actually needing your grenade or melee.
Oh, and one last fun thing...punch literally anything that can be moved and watch it fly, savathun's rock...eye, weeeeeeeee, the Cyclops boss eye, weeeeee!
Barrels, weeeee!
If you have any questions, be sure to ask.

I agree with you Code of the siegebreaker
-
I want my god damn Suncharge back
-
I thought striker was the only class 😂. Speaking of fast grenades. Endless grenades and shoulder charge in PVE with the helmet for striker. Talking about fun
-
2 RepliesI just want my hammer strike back that way when i swing my hammer while in my super i can smack people.

I went with siegebreaker since release. I used it then and never went back
I love watching things burn, I especially love watching my enemies burn... no I’m not a pyromaniac
I am a heavenly dragon, who happens to breathe fire. It’s implied While sunspots don’t stack damage, the burn stays. That’s why I use it in raids. I can solo a plate at the gauntlet with just a sunspot and a scout rifle. Just throw a grenade at the door, stand in sunspot, and shoot enemies at the opposite door. Don’t even pay attention to what’s behind you. They literally can’t do anything. Even if they did melee me, they take damage because of my gauntlet perk and go right back to burning Same with the middle in the throne room. Grenade at the door, punch a warbeast, put up half barrier, sit tight and wait for the centurion. Everything burns from my fire and from the barrier

1 ReplyI made a post not too long ago about Mortar Blast. It's easily the weakest melee in the game and could use a major buff. Currently I refer to it as the Titan tickle. The initial strike needs to be brought up to match the damage of a regular strike. As it stands right now it can't even kill a Dreg without a follow-up shot.

1 ReplyGood post man, i think its a very underused subclass in d2 and theres certainly a bit more of a learning curve to get good and use it effectively. I mained sunbreaker in d1, but really was not feeling it in d2 so switched to striker for them op pulse nades and haven't looked back in terms of a solid pve loadout. D1 was all about stickies and flameseeker for me, just so much fun, loved them homing hammers, I'm hoping those new exotic gauntlets introduce a similar perk

3 RepliesLol. I love your post but I hardly think these branchless trees need breaking down.. thx
-
1 ReplyThanks for the info. I didn't read the spoilers (I don't like to spoil things an author saves until after reading something else), but otherwise - great!
-
3 RepliesMelting point is a great PVE perk, unfortunately it is in the wrong tree. I think it should be swapped to Siegebreaker and keep the sunspot on death. There just isn't enough in the Fire Forged tree to justify using it in PVE vs Siegebreaker. I love my Sunbreaker but we need a little help in our ability trees.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks for taking the time to post this

I love punching minataurs and watch them fly - good way to kill them too. Shoot - punch - shoot till dead
-
1 Reply2nd worst neutral game in all of D2, losing only to Gunslinger. F
-
1 ReplyPersonally, I think Sunbreaker needs a buff. Preferably to it’s neutral game. Something like this would be perfect Code of the Siegebreaker -Sol Invictus will now begin health recovery instead of a portion of health for every grenade and Melee kill. Super health recovery unchanged -Fixed an issue where the melee was not outputting damage correctly or just buffed the damage of the melee -Sun warrior: Boosted the effect in which you regain your grenade and melee by 19% Code of the Fire-Forged -Explosive pyre will be activated on all ability kills -Tempered Metal also slightly increases your sprint speed

1 ReplyHey! You're stealing my gig!
JK, good post.
-
2 RepliesI'll just drop my two cents and go. I used to use Striker for the double pulse grenades. Now I use Sunbreaker, Melting Point and Legend of Acrius. Absolutely ridiculous damage after Acrius got a 35% damage buff in March. Add the 50% from Melting Point and you'll kill almost any non boss enemy in one hit, and Strike bosses go down in seconds. Seems like my Melting Point surprise that I used to reserve for Aksis has become useful again.

2 RepliesThat Sunbreaker melee is just too fun! I hit an opponent in PvP and literally launch them off the map. One time I punched a Hunter who practically dropped down on top of me and it sent him skyward. Dude had no clue what to do lol

2 RepliesChanging sub class does something? When did that happen?
-
1 ReplyAh, a sunbreaker. I see you're a man of culture as well. Gotta say I've never tried throwing a hammer at a cataclysm nova before, but I gotta ask, after you hit it with the hammer, do the little tracers still break off and chase you?

3 RepliesWhat grenade is best for getting kills? I myself love Code of the Fire-forged but can't decide on a grenade. Great post btw.
