Bring Back "No Cape" Cloaks

The cloak is what distinguishes hunters on the battlefield. According to the lore, you could tell where a hunter has been, what battles he/ she fought in, what their personality is, and/ or what faction they pledged to all from looking at their cloak. However, in Destiny 2, our style of cloaks is rather limited. They all fall under the category of typically long (covering the full back) and a full hood. The few that distinguish themselves the most to me are the two raid cloaks (Imperial's Shadow Cloak and Cloak of Feltroc). However, if you look at some of the uncommon cloaks, the majority of them don't have the cape (looking at you, Refugee Cloak). So, how come these types of cloaks don't have a legendary form or why aren't there more forms of cloaks as seen in Destiny 1? Here's a brief list of the 4 types of cloaks in the Destiny universe with examples for each: 1. Full Cape, Full Hood This is your traditional cloak that is the most prevalent in the Destiny universe. Long, flowing cape and a hood to cover your full head, this cloak is pretty much the hunter's standard form of attire. Notable examples include Lost Pacific Cape, Shadow's Cloak, The Took Offense, and much more. 2. Full Cape, No Hood This cape type has special place in my heart because the cape that comes to mind when I think about this form is the Cloak of Taniks. This is a Destiny 1 cloak and a strike specific loot that I grinded hours just to get. Similar to the full cape, full hood cloaks, this form has the long, flowing cape but (obviously) no hood. 3. No Cape, Full Hood If you ever wanted to feel like Eminem and rock a hoodie without worrying about tripping yourself on some annoying piece of fabric constantly following you around, this is your cloak. All you got is your hood covering your face and that's all you need. This cloak (as mentioned before) is already in-game but as a common cloak: the Refugee Cloak. 4. No Cape, No Hood This is the hunter in its purest form. No distractions on your head limiting your field of view, and nothing clinging to your back. Similar to the full cape, no hood cloaks, this is only present in Destiny 1. One specific example I remember is the Makeshift Scarf. It was once a common drop but got upgraded to a legendary during the Rise of Iron, and it could confuse players in the Crucible to think that you're a skinny titan (I had some messages on Xbox to prove). So, why should we implemented these 4 forms of cloaks? First, for customization. Outside of the PVE and PVP, Destiny is a fashion show with Guardians always trying to get that perfect look. By incorporating these new items, you multiply the amount of options that a player can do when designing their hunter. Second, it is fair to the artists. The graphic artists have to create full 3D models for all of the helmets and chest armor for hunters, but the traditional full cloaks limits the view of their work. By having a more exposed cloak (like the Makeshift Scarf), a player can experience the full 360 degrees of what the artists designed. Lastly, graphically pleasing. Cloaks as they are currently clip through objects constantly. Whether it be armor you're currently wearing or when you're riding your Sparrow, the physics of cloaks have them phasing in and out of reality. By creating smaller or non-existent cloaks, you won't see these graphical issues. Overall, I know that it may be a little late to expect this for the upcoming May DLC, but I feel that this a small but essential change for hunter customization.

  • So old post but let me add a few temporal heals to the wound. Theres a so called hunter leveling item in the collections menu that i don't know how i acquired. Its called Dreamer's cloak. its low light with power lvl of 20 but ofc it can be used in the crucible (not in special game modes : gambit, iron banner, trials, trials of Osiris | where power lvl matters) but its good to just you know have a scarf method to show of with your gear. hope it gives a little solace to ppl who are sick of long cloaks.

Let me get this straight. I know I'm going to get hate for this but it's to be expected. This game is a mess, you have No forum history of ever being on this forum other then this post and a cloak is what you are most concerned about? I've seen a few of these profiles that never been on this forum asking for small petty things that don't help this game at all. You guys wanted this mess and now you are asking for D1 content back. What happen to ("this is a new game") and asking for new things that actually improve the game? This is why this game is where it is at and the same thing happened to D1. Lets keep asking for the small petty things and that is All Bungie will focus on and act like they are "improving" this mess. You guys caused this and will only make matter worse unless you start asking for bigger things that actually help this game to get it moving forward. Bungie has cut enough corners as it is. It's time for them to start acting like a true AAA gaming company that creates a game for the gamers as well as themselves. Not lets use small petty things gamers ask for to get us by.

      • Nice write up ! BUMP 100 Times !! I completely hate most of full cloaks on the Hunters, a no-cloak cloak would be amazing! I want to see my Hunter !! Not some drape and head scarf BS flapping around all over the place !!!!! If the Warlock had a anti “grandma table cloth” affect via class item against its chest price it would also be nice. Female character butt design and overall female form as been muted as well and currently for the most part looks pretty horrible! It is just stupid and we are all so sick of this junk. If I pick a female character then make it look like an awesome freaking female! If you pick a male then the same applies and look bad ass! A lot of the reason of playing Destiny is because you like your Gardian and want to get new things to make them look cool / amazing ... and yes, get abilities, better stats and be able to play better/faster...

      • TBH the long cloaks aren’t even long enough imo. I miss my long flowing d1 cloaks. Especially the ones from the speaker. (The one with the snake one it, I forget the name) was my favorite. There’s a few in d2 that are alright but they aren’t as long nor as interesting looking. But that’s just my opinion, I like extremely long capes. I actually have one irl, lol.

        • Corrections: 3. No Cape, Full Hood The Sand People are easily scared away, but they'll be back, and in greater number. This choice is a tad bit of a controversial item, and is usually worn by females, fishermen, and friendly back ally "traders." 4. No Cape, No Hood My scarf is fabulous. It has little puffy snow balls and everything. 5. Bandana: Tied Around Neck Alright, calm down, Mr. Classy. Not everyone wants to dual pistols at High Noon. 6. Bandana: Covers Top of Head Looks like someone's ready to put things back in their hole. 7. Side Cape Because people seem to like Boba Fett. 8. Fitted Flag Why not attack your enemies with the ghosts of their past? Also: Onyx Guard + C.O.G. Flag Cape = Approaching Critical Mass.

          • Not just Hunters, every class needs better class items. There are no good loincloths, arm bands, or blankets in this game to make you look unique. Where are the Psion Flayer's Mantles, the Light of the Great Prism, the Stormcaller Bond? Class items are meant to add personality to our characters. And they all add the personalities of wet mops. I say all classes need more, better, and more original class items to make us stand out. These need added to the vanilla game, not just the expansions.

            • I think a cloaky cloak would be really cool. "Cloaky" being cloaks that surround the entire body like in fantasy novels

            • Titan Look like kings with Capes, Bungie has displayed several pieces of content art with cape wearing Titans, Lord Saladin is 1 example and Zavala simply has no swagger👊

            • But the real reason we need to get rid of capes is so we can look at our female hunters booties.

RIP Cloak of Taniks. I miss when strike specific loot was actually valuable and didn't take 7 months to create 3 weapons and 4 reskinned cosmetics. We had something like 8 weapons and at least 8 armour pieces in D1. Off the top of my head... Does Not Bow Grasp of Malok Treads Upon Stars Imago Loop Stolen Will Darkblade's Spite Devil's Dawn Baron's Ambition Then armour: Mark of the Undying Mind (eww) Cloak of Taniks Hood of Malok Sepiks Deposed Bond (sexy) Anathema Cannon Mark Mua'auls Maulers Theosyion Vibrassae Devouring Maw Darkblade's Helm And these were all valuable, sought after items! Why are all the best guns in this game obtainable from vendors or an easy campaign, while strike specific loot remains mostly useless? Think of the best D2 PVE stuff. Better Devils Nameless Midnight Origin Story Uriel's Gift Curtain Call All from vendors. It's a bit late now but maybe that's the reason D2 has a loot problem.

                    • Or we can just ask for more good looking cloaks in general. I mean, there is a few, but not near enough. (take note that im not comparing them to D1 cloaks, since this is a different game and i want innovation in it, not the same thing repeated. Plus D1 has had years to get some good cloaks in, so im not expecting much, but just a few more. For varieties sake.)

                    • I agree totally. I miss being able to wear the beginner cape in D1 that was essentially a scarf. Made my Hunter look unique around all the others with full or half capes and made him feel more like a bandit with a bandana to put over his face.

                    • Didn't they already do that? My guardian runs around all the time with only my hood on. The cloak just flies off into nothingness after i dance, or dodge, or sparrow. I assume it was intentional. If not I'm a triple A game company would fix it 8 months into the games release.

                    • Makeshift Scarf, please. Or, worst-case scenario, a poncho or other all-weather gear. Everyone laughs when Edna Mode shrieks "NO CAPES!", but let's think about the logic of a highly mobile character class wearing a long article of clothing around their neck that's capable of snagging on literally everything (imagine snagging it on something while you're charging around on a sparrow).
