They need to abandon PvP altogether..... When D1 came out the world was a different place, and their PvP had a place in it for some fun action. Now we have Overwatch, Player Unknown Battlegrounds, Fortnite, and many other dedicated ability/shooting based games to play PvP. I would even say some of them looked at D1's PvP and said... wow, that looks like fun, how can we make a dedicated PvP game that catches all that fun and makes it better? Pretty much everyone on my friends list that used to play Destiny is still playing games pretty often, but they are playing those games instead. A game with PvP as a side dish is NEVER going to be able to compete with those games. Attempting to do so will lead to the games ruin. Ignore PvP, let it play out however it plays out while focusing entirely on a fulfilling PvE experience.

  • i play pvp a little now there is rumble. the kinds of people on the forums, tend to be the kinds of people that made me avoid raids in d2 - too much like WoW people, you cant do the raid until you know it inside out or they ragequit. you cant learn the raid until you done it a few times. so you cant do the raid, because the abuse you get (since it REQUIRES some form of voice or chat comms) makes the whole experience NO FUN. and i dont play as a job, and i KNOW pvp means nothing, except some fun. unfortunately the kinds of ppl who obsess over K/D stats tend to think it DOES prove something, make it unfun to play pvp, and make you wonder what the hell they are compensating for in their real lives.

  • Playing PVP doesn't feel right when im playing D2.It should because all i have is 3 guns and some abilities,so you would think that bungie would use the potential to have a game that is good in PVE content and PVP

  • If they remove pvp, the game will die even faster. Honestly I only play between releases for pvp. Pvp is the only reason I try to get any particular gear. Especially at the current moment. If you want to ignore pvp balance I'm all for that but removing it is a stupid concept.

  • You are but one of 9M players. PVP had 100k people playing this week. 100k total out of 9M players. It's not a big part of destiny and never was IMO, except for those that love it. To them it's everything.

  • True, but trials used to carry destiny during content droughts, which is why the number is so low. With pvp in the garbage, most people stopped playing until the next release. It's always been that way, it's just more pronounced since pvp is not good.

  • Trials carried D1 because you had those incredible moments. 1v3 and you pull out the win. That doesn’t happen in D2 it’s boring slow team shooting and killed the PvP.

  • 100% Agree. That's why they need to make exotics better, but really the weapon system, inherent flinch in weapons, all need to be fixed.

  • They need to just make a powerful game make pve the center point like in D1 and the PvP problems are taken care of. Instead of needing things to the ground take the approach that PvP is an extension of pve the balance they should have looked at was countering. The artifact that takes away burn is an example but it should have been released when thron was a problem not after they nerf thorn. Constant updates with new items that balance out the powerful ones is how you achieve balance not by nerfing and D2 was nerfed

  • I probably phrased it poorly by saying Abandon first, I later say ignore. As in focus purely on making weapons as cool as possible, experiment with things that look fun and would be exciting to use. PvP balance should be far on the backburner, only addressed when a weapon truly breaks PvP (Vex Mythoclast pre-nerf, 1 shot body shot snipers). I don't mean get rid of PvP, what I mean is keep PvP as a fun place to test out the new weapons you get and wreak havoc on each other, don't worry so much about keeping it "competitive"

  • Exactly. Competitive not only kills pve but it’s killing pvp.

  • PUBG and Fornite are battle royal games. Overwatch is a team based strategy shooter. Destiny 1 PVP is nothing like those games. There may be similarities in that each have certain types of guns and ability at your disposal, but a player good at Destiny 1 (or 2) would not necessarily excel at any of those game you listed without practice. The developers of those game did NOT base their development off of Destiny. The games are just too different. Is your argument really, "There are other good PVP games, Destiny 2 doesn't need it." Thats not how development works, Nor should it. Destiny has some of the best shooter mechanics of any game of the FPS genre, to remove PVP would not be a positive for the franchise, it isn't going anywhere. The reason why your friends list are playing those games is because those games have a fun factor that Destiny just doesn't have currently. There isn't anything unique about the PVP experience anymore. There isn't any hidden gem of a weapon. There isn't any fun build that you can discover. Destiny 2 might has well abandened anything remotly fun or unique all together. Sequels are suppose to expand on the original. Destiny 2 did the opposite. That is why it is dying, not because of PVP.

  • As a business owner you certainly decide where to spend your time, money and efforts. If I know I have a competitor that absolutely KILLS IT in a certain area, I will invest my time elsewhere. Why compete with someone who's very good at it, when I can grow my business in other areas? PVP is that area to me for Bungie. There are already great PVP games out there, why try to compete against them when they could grow PVE?

  •
There are already great PVP games out there, why try to compete against them when they could grow PVE?
There are also great PVE games out there that destiny would compete against. That argument doesn't make any sense. I would argue that actually, the PVE market is much more competative. PVE is the basis for MOST games. By appealing to both avenues, you hit both markets and your target player base would be much larger. Again, making it silly to remove PVP.

  • PvP is why D2 is stale. No random rolls, Less perks, Slower super times, Constant sandbox changes (recent one nice for pve), most live events were mainly PvP/Eververse, Constant PvP complaints on the forum, Simplified class tree. PvP is a tack on, should always be. What new content do you guys want, New Game Mode?? New Maps?? Gun chan... Wait that affects the PvE experience. PvE is this games core design, not PvP. Nobody comes to Destiny looking for a state of the art PvP experience. Not how D1 was advertised.

  • I never argued that PVE wasn't Destiny's core design. However, I would argue against individuals not coming to Destiny for the PVP expereince. Personally, that is the ONLY reason I play Destiny 2 and the PVE is dull, dry, and boring. (Not that the PVP in this game is great, but I typically only have time to invest in one game, and nothing else interests me currently.) In Destiny 1, the largest viewship on twitch was over the weekend, when trials was active. Flawless was a goal for tons of players. People came to D1 for trials and iron banner, both PVP experiences. I am not going to argue against the fact that Destiny 2 was watered down in an attempt to make a competative PVP experience, but that is Bungie's roots. Halo might as well have launched the competative PVP FPS genre. No PVP players asked for such a waterdown expereince. I mean, look at twitch now, everyone left. I am not arguing against making Destiny have a better PVE experience, I am arguing against removing PVP being good for the game. It will kill the logenvity of the game and would not help the playerbase. Their are too many looter based games that have no PVP that own that market currently. Destiny would struggle to compete against those.

  • Again. This. Pvp is just as important. Because the pvp is terrible I can’t attach to this game. I love pve and I would consider myself a pve main but because pvp is so damaged, it’s disheartening to play the game knowing the pvp is so way off base, and not an option for me anymore. Limited scope.

  • Destiny and its PvP is several years old. All of the games you listed will be in a similarly fatigued state by this time in their game cycle. The only way to avoid it is to implement constant changes to introduce new, exciting options (something Fortnite is currently doing). I believe Bungie tried that to a certain extent with D2, believing many would prefer team shotting (actually takes much more strategy and tactics than lone rangering everything) four v four matches, implementing a new weapon system getting rid of the shotgun crutch and adding an elemental primary PvE players were wanting, and replacing what was at the end a very convoluted D1 Crucible meta.

  • so your argument is because other games have pvp, and your friends are playing other game's pvp that bungie, who is known for pvp, who laid the ground work for what a shooter on console should be. should just stop making pvp. Pvp was never the side dish but was apart of destiny from the very beginning concept. it is never going away. it is even part of the lore.

Halo? How have you not heard of Halo's pvp or multiplayer rather? Halo was ground breaking in every way that they did pvp or multiplayer.
