Serious question lol been kind of bothering me
Do guardians pick which class they'll be or is it pre destined when they get revived for the first time?
Ex: was zavala a Titan when he became a guardian or did he get to pick it?

2 RepliesGood question. When Guardians were first born, everyone was a “Titan”. Just a powerful, undying soldier but no special abilities born yet. Defenders of the Last City. Then the “Titans” created the “Hunter” order. A class of Guardians charged with roaming the wilds to rediscover the land and map the terrain and scout out the enemy. From there came the “Warlocks”. Dedicated to studying the Light. Warlocks discovered how to use the Light and that knowledge was passed around. Each Class uses Light differently to suit their missions. Titans became the brute strength and the steadfast walls of the survivors. Hunters became the survivalists and lone wolves, equipped to travel the unknown alone and observe the enemy, undetected. Warlocks learned to harness pure Light, not needing to forge weapons or constructs out of the Light (except in D2. They ruined that) and instead dropping collapsing stars on the enemies, channeling pure Solar energy through their body (even enough to raise themselves from the dead), or becoming the Storm itself. Then there are special cases like Lady Efrideet’s non-combatant Guardians. The ones who chose not to use the Light as an instrument of war. It’s implied that they learned how to use the Light in different ways than the common Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks. We’re limited in the game, but I imagine the Destiny universe has many different ways to use the Light beyond the three main classes.

3 RepliesThe majority of the guardians that populate this forum right now have absolutely no class.

Edited by LeBeowulf: 3/26/2018 3:20:43 PMYour question is well taken and is answered here: "Guardians of the present are chosen from the ranks of ancient dead..." https://www.destinypedia.com/Guardian

2 RepliesKind of incredible that the series has been around for a number of years now and we still don't have a basic understanding of things like this in the lore.

They didnt think this property through enough for that to have an answer.

They start with it, usually their personality (as best as I can gather) decides. Warlocks are more inquisitive, hunters are rebellious, and Titans are more loyal.

1 ReplyBump! Can we PLEASE get an answer from someone at Bungie on this? These are the kinds of posts you guys should give an answer to!

Depends on what Christine Thompson decides is the canon answer for today. But be advised she will very likely decide that today’s answer is “folklore” tomorrow and will completely ignore it to remake more NPCs into whiny EMO caricatures of their former selves. Welcome to Destiny 90210.

I like to think there revived in groups of 3. Play rock, paper & scissors. Winner gets to chose, 2nd get the choice of the 2 not chosen and 3rd gets what is left.

2 RepliesEdited by Sparrow: 3/22/2018 11:32:10 PMIt just comes to them, mostly based on combat style, and how they use the light. Felwinter is a warlock who used shoulder charge, but he was mostly warlock, so that’s probably why. They can change classes, too. Rezyl Azzir was a titan, who became dregden yor, who wanted everyone to think he was a hunter. It worked for him

I've always imagined it to myself as having to do with how well the guardian can channel light. (Based on D1 supers): Titan supers seemed to be based on gather and unleashing large amounts of light at once. Those who have more control can learn the Hammer Dance. Hunters have slightly more control, letting them do more nuanced things like tethering with void light (which to my understanding is the hardest to work with) and we're able to learn blink from Warlocks (it doesn't seem like Titans can learn that one). Warlocks have the greatest control, letting them literally bring themselves back from the dead and unleashing pure arc energy through their hands. Again, not a lot of lore evidence, but it's how I've pictured it going down.

2 RepliesEdited by Smough: 3/22/2018 7:29:43 PMI remember something about how classes are picked automatically based on the personality of the guardian and what he/she did before dying. That doesn’t mean they are stuck being that one class though, I’m pretty sure there were a few guardians who were two classes.

Perhaps personality like a lion, snake, or eagle played into your class selection. But maybe it was also what you were in your previous life. A soldier, or knight, you'll become a Titan. An assassin, or marksman, you'll become a Hunter. A scholar, or genius, you'll become a Warlock.
-
I think it's more based off of a guardians personality. Cayde is a sort of free spirited care free guy. Zavala and salad head are more serious. And ikora and Asher are the ones who study the light and are interested in it more than others.

8 RepliesSeeing as light is really fluid it would make sense that you choose based on your personality

I think Guardians subconsciously choose their class. It would have been a smart move on Bingo's part to have your character completely powerless until you speak with one of the Vanguard. Quests would be your training and you'd unlock certain abilities upon completion.

2 RepliesThe Sorting Helmet picks your class.

3 RepliesThey go to the shard of the Traveler and are given it, duh.

5 RepliesFrom what I can tell, seems to be built around whatever your guardians body type and training was before the collapse, you had to be a soldier obviously, no person who is revived in high stress areas figures out how to aim a broken rusty AR in 10 seconds, it also explains why you wake in class specific armor rather than have a base class and decide on your class after, To sum up, I believe it has to do with the characters training before the collapse.

You can decide at goldfishfun.com
sorry but I have seen that commercial too much 🤣
I assumed your class is chosen for you by who you were in your previous life that’s how I believe it happens
