when you played as the arbiter, how come you never fight the humans!?

i thought it was incredibly lame that they created a "new" alien race for the elites to fight (who use the same weapons practically), when they never explore the dynamics of fighting against the humans, who have a completley different weapon set.

 • thats a good point, like ninja and samurai. one fights upfront, the other sticks you from behind.

 • 'I will continue my campaign against the humans' 'No! You will not' you have to see it like this: The Arbiter is Sam Fischer, the army doesn't send Sam to the front, they send him away for special missions. The Arbiter is not a regular soldier he's a special unit. [Edited on 1/6/2006]

 • when i first got halo 2 for a little while about a day. (before i completed it) i thought you would have to choose at the end arbiter or MC and fight the other 1.

 •
Posted by: tomcatadam disturbed_zealot has a similar sentiment to mine...ever notice how everyone thinks that online Elite players are all bad (wrong)? This stems partially from the anti-elite sentiment presented in the game. You feel like taking them out more. If it got this way with human characters, you would lose focus more, and feel less immersed in the story.
i don't know, if anything i actually felt bad for the elites. they completely get upstaged by the brutes, then cast aside like nothing. and after all is said and done they become the enemy to the prophets. considering that they pretty much molded the covnant into what it was before the brutes, i kinda sympathize with them. i really enjoy playing as the arbitor, it suprised the hell outta me the first time i played.

 •
Posted by: subXERO 21 it probably had something to do with age ratings. if you went about killin humans then the age ratin wud hav 2 b raised, bt its ok to kill aliens.
an adult-only rating purely on violence? that is a goal that hasn't been reached yet.

 • Its not good for the story to have you playing as the Arrbiter killing humans. The Elites are constructed to make the invited reader sympathyse(sp) with them, having them going around slicing through marines doesn't really help that.

 • plus killing marines would just mean that you'll feel less for your marines when you play as the chief....and if you really want to kill marines as the arbitor there is a way...but you'll have to have quick fingers and dead aim...on the mission sacred icon when your in the library and you hear all that marine radio chatter quickly move to a "window" if you look straight across you can see marines getting their ass kicked by flood.....i tend to try to shoot the flood but hey if you wanna kill humans thats about as close as you'll ever get.

 • IMO, it was meant to show that the Arbiter (and as a result, some part of the Covenant culture) has a highly developed sense of duty, honor, ethics and loyalty to those ideals. That portions of any opponents culture are something that either side of a conflict would prefer to ignore that they have in common. By not having the Arbiter in combat against humans, it shows that the higher goals of the Arbiter (to serve the stated ideals of the Prophets honorably for the betterment of his people) and the goals of the MC (to save humanity from both the Covenant, the Flood and the danger that the rings pose) are not completely opposite. It's easy to consider the enemy to be beneath contempt and unworthy of any consideration. That is how the Covenant (generally) see humanity. Many humans likely return the favor. But when the Arbiter and the MC are shown that there are larger things at stake... (the loss of all life to the Flood or the Rings) those who were inconsolable adversaries can suddenly find that they have much in common.

 •
Posted by: ChiefofAntarctic Doesn't it already have the highest rating?
Well there is AO (Adults Only) but that would mean it wasn't in your local store (i think...i can never get how the american system works) I think i would have liked the Arbiter character less if i had been fighting marines. It means that his story would just have been from the point of view of an enemy soldier. His story in the game is quite interesting. Disgraced officer now forced to fight, and ultimately to die, with the hope of regaining some of his former honour. Then his world is turned upside down when he realises that what he believed wasn't true. Now he's fighting to save his people form the covenant too, just like the chief. I'd definately like to see more if it in halo 3. -Stu [Edited on 1/5/2006]

 • Doesn't it already have the highest rating? And yeah, I was a little upset at being an alien at first, I considered killing myself, but I knew I would come back. I definitely would have been mad if you were forced to kill Marines. Sure, it is okay to kill them for fun or out of anger at their stupidity, but being forced to would have made me quite upset.

 • It probably had more to do with the ESRB. It's different if you kill humans in a game than aliens and mutants.

 • it simply wouldn't be fair. a squad of marines against the arbitor is like a pack of grunts against the master chief.

 • well i never thought the storyline was that captivating, but it wouldn't have been much of a stretch to put a level or two where you fight humans (the game is about the war between them). and to say that the humans wouldn't put up a good fight you might be forgetting about the battle rifle. even if you needed lots of humans to balance the fighting, it would just be more epic.

 • If Bungie had put Marines in the Arbiter missions, there would have been a riot. I personally, would not have cared. But I know many people who are upset as it is with the Arbiter and the Covenant, and having the player kill Marines would be too much for them. (On a side note, one of my favorite things to do as the Chief [in both Halo games] is to hurt and kill the Marines just to see and hear the reactions)

 •
don't care for the idea of attacking your own culture.(in a fight where you play both sides of a war, alternating, fighting both for and against humanity.) I think if any halo game came to that, I would eject the disk on the spot and mail it back to bungie. No thanks.
I agree had it come to that it would have been a VERY hard sell.

 • So you want them to plot the story to where you HAD to kill marines? Not a bright idea. Here is an example of the idea: " HEY! Lets throw an alien into the story, and then give the player control, and he can kill HIS OWN TEAM. That's perfect! It will sell millions! " I don't care for the idea of attacking your own culture.(in a fight where you play both sides of a war, alternating, fighting both for and against humanity.) I think if any halo game came to that, I would eject the disk on the spot and mail it back to bungie. No thanks. If you want to kill people, get GTA. There is plenty to go around.

 • Plus it was hard enough for some people to play the Arbiter. I Still wish when I comes time to take out the "heritics" you could join them, they were right you know. So imagine how hard it would be to ask fans to play against the goals of MC? Plus the whole game world balance issue of Marines vs Elites.

 • Well, you've got to think about the story. First the Arbiter is supposed to stop the Heretics, then in the next mission get the Index. Before retrieving it, though, the Elites are demoted, which causes a lot of internal strife within the Covenant. When the Elites rebel, the Arbiter joins in (while getting the Index at the same time), so there isn't much time for fighting humans. It's all in there for you, you've just got to be logical about it.

 • "A single Elite can desimate a squad of Mariens..." Those are or close to the words of Joseph Staten(sp?). Its a great idea and I agree some what. But think about it. An Elite would have to fight upwards of twenty Mariens...on Legendary to make it challenging. I agree that fighting as an Elite albeit the Arbiter, against humans would be awesome but just not practicle. That said, the Arbiter kicks ass, as do the Elites. [Edited on 1/5/2006]
