It won't come to that but it would not suprise me, seeing the politics currently surounding lootboxes, that soon games that carry lootboxes will be forced with an M rating.

No, the'll get an AO rating. Gambling in real life is 21+. The ESRB even considers real gambling in video games get an automatic AO rating. This is why the ESA, ESRB along with all greedy publishers do not want them considered gambling.
Even worse for them, they will lose the lootboxes or lose out on sales.
AO is usualy only for aldult only games (duh..) or extreme violence, no AAA publisher wants to be asociated with that.
