Theory on Vault JYS-2

Before I get into JYS-2, let me backtrack a little and talk about Rasputin and the collapse. It's been discussed to death, and AFAIK the prevailing theory is that Rasputin planned to force the Traveler to stay by using some "caedometric" weapon, but shut himself down before following through. So, if we go this route, why did the Traveler stay? Given it's history, choosing to stay and fight is not the M.O., so what if another Warmind pulled the trigger? Enter JYS-2. Let's start with the name, which given Bungie's A.I. naming habits, may be an abbreviated Joyeuse, which was the legendary blade of Charlemagne. Of note, legend also has it that the blade was forged from the same materials as Durendal and Curtana, which Marathon and/or Halo fans should recognize. Furthermore, legend has it that the sword is made in part from the Spear of Destiny, the Spear that was used by Longinus to pierce the side of Jesus Christ. Perhaps there's a veiled allegory here, suggesting that JYS-2 is the one that "pierced the savior." We also know that a Bray family member tampered with records in the Vault, which lines up with my prior theory post that Ana Bray was involved in creating the Guardians. Please share any thoughts, I'd love to hear from other lore fans.

Why did it stay? Dreams of Alpha Lupi - Earth
The blaze sits inside a nest of little worlds, still too distant to share its heat but plainly staring out at you. A face emerges, drawn from plasmas and radiation... There must be meanings in its roar. You listen hard and carefully, and sometimes a lucid melody seems to rise out of random noise. Joy builds, and the first hope in ages transforms you. It seems important, even critical, to tell every star from here to the black between the galaxies that you will be strong again.
and Dreams of Alpha Lupi - Traveler 2
This has been such a long chase. This will be the place you will fight. Fight and win. But do you really know why you go where you go, and where this journey is taking you? The chase leads you where you need to be, you believe. Unless...you are being pushed.
It stayed because there was something special about our universe, something that filled the Traveller with hope, that would make it feel stronger. It knew that this was the place it would make its stand against its enemy, the place where it would win. The writer is believed to be the Traveler itself as it is written from a first-person perspective.

    • The whole point of the Rasputin not shooting down the Traveler theory is that the Traveler chose to stay, of its own free will, as we hear time and time again. Not because it was forced to. Saying it was just another Warmind sort of defeats the point. So yes, while I agree with you that "JYS" almost definitely stands for Joyeuse, I don’t think that any Warmind shot the Traveler down.

        • In the opening d2 cutscene our ghost specifically and directly says the traveler made a choice to stay and sacrifice itself to end the collapse. As he says this we see a cutscene where the traveler bursts and sheds its bottom with no coercion, and effectively drives out the tetrahedron ships and makes ghosts. Yes our ghost could lie, but why would bungie include an animation confirming everything he says? Also mid collapse, (lets assume jys-2 hit the traveler) how would a warmind on IO be able to damage the traveler more efficiently than the darkness that was already on earth? (according to the opening cutscene) Ultimately the jys theory is extremely intriguing, but most likely not what happened. It is also possible ghost lied to us but that's another can of worms to open.

          • It was directly referenced in the grimoire that the traveler was tired of running to it decided to stay even if it meant defeat.
