Grenade launchers in this game get kind of a bad rep. Aside from Play of the Game, you won’t really see any other GL’s being used in the crucible. After using the two launchers in the title above, I truly believe their scarce usage is a case of mistaken identity.
They need to be used in a specific way, and if used in this way, you can do some good damage to your opponents.
These two GL’s come with amazing base stats and amazing perks. The most interesting one to note is “Concussion Grenades.” Hitting an opponent with this grenade will stun them.
**The blast radius on these GL’s is really high. If you explode the grenade close enough to your opponents body, it will do a total of 150 damage. Not enough to kill, but enough to stun them, pull out your primary, and finish them off. The added value of these GL’s is that they can bounce off of walls and kill opponents behind cover. **
Orewing’s Maul has the perk auto-loading holster. At first glance it may seem like a useless perk, but it synergies exceptionally well with the gun’s intended play style. Shoot the grenade, stun your opponent, swap to your primary, and finish them off. By the time you get the kill, your grenade launcher will have its ammo reloaded so you can move onto the next kill. I like to use New City as my primary, since it has the QuickDraw perk and makes it easy to finish off opponents.
Try to keep your distance when using these GL’s. They require you to hold the trigger and release to detonate. If you get too close to your opponent, you will find it very hard to use since the detonation won’t trigger early enough.
Pulling the trigger on the launcher and timing the explosion on your opponent is so extremely satisfying. It is a feeling of satisfaction no other power weapon can provide. I actually find myself camping the power ammo spawn just so I can grab it over my teammates.
Patch 1.1.4 will be buffing the blast radius of grenade launchers. These might actually become extremely powerful in the crucible, and I feel they will be an excellent choice for rumble.
I hope you found this guide insightful. These GL’s may not be the most powerful weapons in the game but they do offer something unique to work with. They offer a play style that your opponent will not know how to counter (since they never really face it.)

Edited by killsinthenight: 6/22/2018 5:08:14 PMNicely done. I gotta work on my timing with the detonation, a little sloppy still. I use a handling masterworked Home for the Lost w/Quickdraw for the clean up. Haven't gotten the Maul yet. I use Resilient People with volatile launch. What are the other GLs with concussives? Also, If you just one tap the trigger does the grenade detonate on direct hit?

3 Repliesi have a friend who is best in the world, (or the best ive seen) with flash and thunder, he is an absolute god with it, direct impacting people mid air.... hes like a 5.7 kad or someshit, but he just really likes that weapon

12 RepliesAre you aware of what Concussion Grenades actually do? Have you used them?

2 RepliesEdited by DiZ: 3/16/2018 3:33:04 AMI think the Fighting Lion may be too strong if it's affected by the upcoming blast radius increase. People think it's a joke now, but just wait until people learn how to use it. It's already been banned in competitive play because of cakes. No, seriously; that actually happened.

4 RepliesI don't need a guide or video to know how to pick a rocket launcher instead.

1 ReplyEdited by Eden: 3/20/2018 2:09:23 AMThis looks interesting. I'll probably try it out after the patch. Basically looks like how Fighting Lion was probably intended to perform. Also, can someone explain to me the difference between the "stun" effect on concussion rounds and the blinding effect on flashbang rounds? UPDATE: Took this thing into Trials tonight and absolutely loved it. It's very satisfying to use and OHKing people is actually pretty easy. I think it actually throws people off, because when people see you load a grenade launcher for power, they assume it's The Colony.

Speaking of I always loved using it in Halo Reach, and no one else wanted it so more for me. The single shot one is just like it from what I can tell too, I need to use it more. I've just been having fun with the ones that stick. Being an idiot and planting them on the floor around you in a circle so the enemy can't get you is dumb fun.

Nice post

8 RepliesWow thats some crispy gun play. When these weapons do get that blast radius I'll definitely look into them. For now I won't embarrass myself attempting these maneuvers.

4 RepliesWhen I mess around with Fighting Lion, I do the whole hit them, clean up with primary. Super fun. I like videos using obscure weapons like this. Sincerely, - A Linear Fusion Rifle user

1 ReplyAwesome post, amazing vid!! I don't use nade launchers due to the whole pull trigger, hold, release where you want the explosion. My first instinct is to pull and release right away. After watching you and seeing you can actually track your nades I'll give them a try again. You're right, they have some amazing perks but I just couldn't get them to work right. I'd bounce them off walls and they'd drop 50 meters from an enemy. Thanks.

2 RepliesOnly reason grenade launchers that are not The Colony are so under used is due to the fact they require some skill. Too many players stick to easy use weapons and miss out on other fun ones.

1 ReplyHeres a much simpler guide. Step 1 equip rocket launcher Step 2 delete grenade launcher

1 ReplyThats just it. If the GL does not have Auto reload. It useless. They reload so slow that even if you hit and switch for kill, you still have to switch back and reload. Thats 5 seconds you are not doing anything.

Awesome post! You respond in a nice, civilized way to other's points. I like that

1 ReplyThese launchers are my new favorite weapons.

2 RepliesNice. You were monsterous with that gun lol. Very good. I think you were far more lethal with that GL than you could be with a rocket. I don’t think most could pull this off Even with the colony, I usually see people just waste ammo with GLs. You were racking up kills though lol. (Far as the Rocket convo. Funny thing is, I kind of look at Telesto (my heavy of choice) like a sticky grenade launcher rather than a fusion rifle. So it’s my fav GL LOL. I started off always using tracking rockets. But, found that with Telesto I can usually get at least 4-6 kills back to back to back if the team actually hangs in the general area and doesn’t all go off doing their own thing. It’s Often enough to turn a close game around.)

Rockets are for people who can't use Grenade Launchers.

It is possible to sort of ohk a target in PvP with them you will have to land a direct hit though to deal that last 50 damage to finish them with one shot. Personally think flash and thunder is a bit better due to the better reserves
