Someone want to try and explain how the shard was exactly corrupted. As I'm sure a corrupt3d piece wouldn't be so.eager to drop free light on us. Like if anything it was corrupted by sick edm beats and light shows.
Just saying it's poor writing if it was never actually evil or ruined.
All it did was wreck/change the enviroment
. I mean it didn't share any of its powers with our enemies it was just inadvertebtly attracting trouble.

2 RepliesSo two things with that. 1) I agree with a lot of people who think that we are perhaps linked to the corrupt shard now. And maybe in point we are corrupt. 2) We call it a corrupt shard and that maybe it's not really bad at all. (Total theory) maybe the "corruption" around the area is just what happens when a part of the traveler touches the earth. Somewhere in the game it says that the traveller came from the void. The areas around the shard look all dark and takenish. Which come from the void when oryx "takes" them. So maybe the dark forest is just what happens with the physical contact of the traveler. Problems with that theory is that yes the ghost says it's corrupted. BUT the ghosts where born when the traveler died. They don't know much about the traveler either. All they knew is they needed to find their partners. So if other theories are right and the traveler is "bad" that doesn't mean the ghosts are. Because they really don't know anything about their Creator. They are just as clueless as we are.

And... that’s where we got our light back from My theory is WE are corrupted now too Possible darkness subclass in future?
-
Also, we see the Traveller COVERED, so how was it shattered enough that thousands of shards fell?
-
Perhaps it’s the light and darkness merged together? Like the pieces became like that after the darkness attacked during the collapse?

3 Replies1. There are aspects of the Light that we clearly don't understand yet. 2. The Light and the Darkness are clearly connected some how. They may be different aspects of the same fundamental Force. Or the same force taken to opposing extremes. Consider this. The Fallen....once touched by the light....have many powers similar to those of our Guardians. Captains can teleport. Vandals can dodge like Hunters. This similarity increases when they are "Taken". Taken Captains can spam something similar to a Darkness fueled Nova Bomb, in addition to teleporting. Taken Vandals can throw up what is basically a Darkness fueled Ward of Dawn. When you to the Hive, the similarties get even stronger. Hive Wizards can throw down Darkness fuelled Rifts to heal themselves. Hive Knights can put up darkness fueled shields similar to Titan barriers. Lastly, when a being was "taken" by Oryx, they were usually granted an additional power. Hive Thralls gained the ability to teleport. Vex Goblins gained the ability to shield allies. Hive Knights could act as flame throwers. Vex Hobgoblins can generate tracking energy attacks on their demise. Cabal Phalanxes can shoot force beams from their shields. So I think all we can say is that there is something DIFFERENt about the Light coming from those shards of The Traveler than what was used to create Guardians. We don't know if its a different aspect of the Light.....or a combination of Light and Darkness... or a "corruption" of said Light. We just dont' know .....yet. We just know its different...and by interacting with it, our powers have changed in subtle ways.

It can be taken a few ways really. The corruption part could be an assumption that people have made, given the effects it has had on the EDZ. Afterall does anybody alive in the Destiny universe today really know anything about what happened during the Collapse and how exactly it all ended? When the Traveler does something big it apparently causes its shell to break into pieces. Or at least judging from the two events we know off where the Traveler did something major. -Beating back the Darkness in self sacrifice and creating the Ghosts. -Breaking out of the cage and killing immortal light infused Ghaul. Now with the first event the Traveler died/went dormant, slipped into a coma or something. So possibly I couldn't keep that bit of itself afloat like it's doing with all the current pieces now orbiting around it. So it crashed down into the EDZ and the remnant energies just went rampant without control affecting the environment, it was a terraformer afterall. As the Traveler healed it was able to reconnect with it and thus give back the Light to us through it once the rest of it got caged up. Another theory is like Dark_StealthV1 mentions, the Darkness attacked it during their supposed final battle. Causing something to happen to it, maybe a fusion of Light and Darkness of some sort (linked to the creation of the Awoken? Do we know where the final battle took place? Was it over Earth or did the Traveler limp there after the battle?) which caused the Traveler to cast off that pieces of itself, as many people say it did (again how do they know?) after which it started to have a negative effect on the land changing it. And it's simply that not the entire section of shard had that taint. As with everything Darkness and Traveler related, we really don't know much at all. I mean given that the Traveler is awake and fine now apparently but looking more broken than ever, does its shell even matter?

I think it went something like this: When the darkness attacked, it struck the traveler and corrupted it. The traveler then cast off the corrupted part.
