Guardians never needed the Light to stop the Cabal Invasion
Sure, is having “space magic” creates another form of weapon and defense, but it’s not needed.

I assume all the Vanguard and other Guardians are military trained. Can you hold a gun? Good. Can you strategize? Great. Can you make the hard choices or final sacrifice for the better of the planet? Perfect.

I decided to take on Ghaul again WITHOUT using special melees, supers, double jump, and made my recovery 0 and my other stats as low as possible. The result? An egotistical being getting gunned down by a regular human hunter.

We never needed the Light. All the Guardians needed was some courage and overide that mentality of “oh jeez I can die now, better ACTUALLY NOT GO IN SUICIDAL”.

The biggest strength of the Light is that we cannot die permanently. Sure we'd be able to fight back but the casualties would be far greater and non-recoverable. It'd be just like the first battle against Crota on the moon.

Only problem with that is. As soon as the traveler was blocked off every guardian was severely crippled. Imagine going from being a god to an average person at the push of a button. Everyone basically just collapsed.

I highly doubt you beat ghaul without losing a bit of health. Any shot hitting you without light would takes weeks to even months to heal.

1 ReplyIn argument against this. It wouildnt be possible without the light. First off it was never a fair fight to begin with. The Cabal invaded the city and knocked out all defense systems. An ambush. While ambushed, Guardians had to.fight off the initial fatigue of having the light forcibly stripped away, and then bad to fight against legionaries who came prepared with armor, tanks, and other gadgets, while we only ever had our Light to wield. So no supers, grenades or anything past guns and exotics to fight them off with. All while disadvantaged in a fight with no light. Guardians had to defend the citizens of the last city and evacuate, so the fight is not only defending but protecting, we were spread thin, with no systems in place to aid past the bots, who are pretty much the same. That's why the invasion worked so well. Now factor in after that. Without the light we can't res. Which means using actual. Numbers you can't send 1 man armies anymore to face platoons and battalions. Which is why Zavala was losing on the moon of titan. Before we could even get back on the offensive. Do you think we could have fought against hive magic, dealt with the endless vex, and come out not dead with every skirmish the fallen dragged us into with their walkers, traps, and servitors. Not to mention even survivng/completing the siege on almighty(a 1 person) mission, or even getting a ship to fly out their also known as attacking a red legion base, with all of 1 pilot providing last minute support. So I implore you to go back to the final.mission and from the start. No special jumps (glides, doubles, boosts etc,) no grenades, and no super from start to finish. I was a little disappointed we got light back. I thought we were going to be all bad ass and get back in the end. But i guess that wouldn’t make sense. But how badass would it be?

I think you're neglecting a lot of things here. First of all that a regular human could withstand even a single one of Ghaul's Light infused attacks.

In fact the only “training ground” for Guardians we know of is the Crucible. Not to train tactics but to train their Light. The only kind of training ever mentioned is for their subclass powers and using Light. So no they aren’t trained. Second Guardians can’t just be replaced after the Light turns back on. Ghosts were destroyed and while some living humans could replace a few there aren’t many. Otherwise Ghosts would be recruiting from the City, which has never been mentioned once. So nope, you are all wrong on this one.
