How to deal with Griefers in Crucible

I've been starting to notice this more and more in my games that a player will simply stand still for a while, move around and shoot a little only to return to standing still. I understand that they're intentionally doing this so they simply get rewards at the end but I'm confused as to how to deal with them. Sure I reported them for griefing and exploiting (getting rewards for doing nothing and making the rest of the team suffer 3v4 the entire match seems rather exploitative to me). But this is happening more frequently whenever I play. I don't want leave the match, but I'm baffled as to why players think this is ok to do. I can understand not wanting to play crucible, but to spend your time in a game to throw just doesn't make sense to me. So my question is, what do you do whenever (if) this has happened to you and how do you think that kind of playstyle can be fixed. Maybe lock rewards behind performance up to a certain point, like if you get one kill the entire game and no assists you get 50 glimmer but after X amount of assists normal rewards are unlocked? I dunno, it confuses me why players would play a game if they aren't going to play it.

  • I read several times now that Bungee is going to punish us for leaving crucible matches. I am an average crucible player but I enjoy the competition that PVP offers. So Bungee.... if you are listening to your fans that play the game for many hours and have important feedback... listen up. Match crucible player according to their Efficiency or K/D ratios. No one likes to go into a match and get destroyed for 10 minutes never getting a shot off. It is simply not fun anymore when that happens. learn from real life games....when kids are learning to play basketball, baseball, football in high school or other... good coaches don't promote running up the score for the kids learning to play. The kids and the parents become demoralized when they lose miserably and the other team dances over there dead team. Well that is what is happening in Destiny 2 crucible matches in many cases. So personally, I leave the match when this happens. Not because I am a quitter... I have over 15,000 kills since we started counting in Destiny 2 PVP and 550 won matches. So I guess you can say I am not your casual player. But when 4 Sweaties start to run around the map as part of a clan or other and simply destroy everything in site because they are extreme players.... its stops being fun. Fun for them as they dance over the dead corpses... but not fun for the rest of the average players. If this doesn't make sense to you... then simply have an arena game... put 4 average guardians in the middle of the arena... and then have supreme players simply butcher us for 10 minutes! That might be a nice option. So when you start to penalize players for leaving matches....I think you will put the final nail in the coffin for Destiny 2 PVP... for average players that is. So here are some solutions.... 1) match players to K/D ratios. This would allow players to be matched with those that have similar skill levels As your level increases you move up to more skilled levels of competition. Eventually, you might even be able to play Trials. 2) Give us dedicated players some weapon rewards for large number of lifetime kills or maybe 1000 PVP matches won. So even if we are not that great to begin with, we can advance to get some neat stuff because we are dedicated to the game. With some neat weapons, we might be able to go up against some tougher opponents. 3) Differentiate Mods on weapons more to fit different styles of play. Example... If I am not as good as some players on stability... give me mods that help to stable the weapon more in place of decreased handling or range. All your weapons now are basically the same. I have done some studies measuring each weapon and the amount of damage the weapon does as well as stability settings and when you introduce a weapon with a faster rate of fire and more stability, it is basically the same as the weapon you introduce with slower rates of fire and less stability. Anyone can measure weapons this way by going to PVE and finding a target range and testing each weapon against a target and seeing the patterns that they fire. You can also test damage on PVE Taken targets throughout the map. What you will find is all of the weapons are basically the same.... give in one place... take from another. It basically boils down to finding a weapon that you like and using it at the expense of all others. 4) Stop changing weapon efficiency on the fly. One day I go in with my trusty auto rifle and do a good job killing and the next day I can't control the same weapon and other are wrecking me. I thought at first it was me, but after this occurring over and over again and watching others write about the same issue on line countless times... I know something is up. Not sure what it is... but I know something is going on. Oh... and my internet speed is 100 mbps so its not my internet. I also hard wire to my PS4 Pro... and play on game mode... so its not my equipment. 5) Develop a crucible practice map or two. Kind of like a map that you can go into to practice shooting pop up targets and get a score for head shots and body shots. This would help new players as well as older vets get better on reaction time. I am an older player and my reaction time is good, but not as good as my grandson. So I am not sure I will ever be as fast and as good as him, but rather than get wrecked in regular sessions, I might be able to practice on a practice map. Other games do this to help you get use to different weapons and distance shooting. Why not Destiny? Anyway... that's all folks. I know from past experience some of the Sweaties will read this and tell me I am a butthead and worthless and to find another game because I speak up about making the game more fair... but what the Heck... maybe Bungee will listen to a player that has spent a bunch of time since the Destiny inception. So the story goes on with me... I will play occasional public events and strikes when I am bored. I will also play multiple crucible matches every day to try an improve. I never play raids or Nightfalls anymore because I am not good enough for those who want to race through all the puzzles and traps. that's about it! Last... if you penalize me for leaving a match... go for it Bungee... who really cares at that point anymore. You will be on your way to losing another group of dedicated players. Frodgers OUT!

    • A) I've had games where my team couldn't get a kill if we tried, a wall of 4 Uriel's traveling in a pack around the map mowing us down until Shaxx mercied us out - we fired plenty of shots, but 4x Omolons is literally (and statistically) unstoppable right now. Also had a lot of games where I drop in 0:30 before the end and can't get a kill in that time due to bad spawns/spawn kills. Does that mean we shouldn't get rewards for getting stomped or joining late? B) Sometimes people get phone calls, or their dog or kid runs in and needs something, or something in real life interferes with the game for a minute or two. Should they just leave the match altogether? Or is controller-jiggling until they can pick it back up better than quitting? Yeah, it's annoying, but sometimes there's an explanation, and performance-based rewards (especially in a game where PvP is an afterthought) are a terrible idea. Hell, even "wins-based" ornaments automatically exclude 50% of players in every game from getting progress on them, and since solos are at a huge disadvantage right now, that's cutting off a huge portion of the player-base. I'm not sure there's a "performance-monitoring" algorithm that can separate inactivity vs legitimately getting stomped, late joins, or even just having 3 teammates that get kills before you. Hell, I had a game earlier tonight where a team had one guy standing in each Control Zone, and one guy running in a circle to spawn-box us, we were getting killed before we could even properly spawn in - do they deserve more rewards than us for 5 minutes of that nonsense? At the end of the day, it's just a video game - report the guys if you want, take the loss, and move on. As for people who do it on purpose - people who boost for rep/rewards have always existed, and always will. It's really no different in principle than playing the same Strike or Crucible map 500 times for "random rolls," except AFK people (in Strikes OR PvP) ruin a little fun for someone else for a couple of minutes.

    • People are lazy. You're going to encounter all sorts of people in every walk of life who want the rewards of achievement, but don't want to put I the work or the effort to earn them legitimately. So you wind up with people who lie, cheat, steal, manipulate and intimidate as shortcuts to get what they want. That's not going to go anywhere until someone evolves a better class of human being. The only issue is what are YOU going to do when confronted by this kind of behavior. IOW, what LIMITS are you going to enforce against it. I refuse to let myself be taken advantage of by such people. So when I encounter that kind of crap, I simply leave the game. You'll have to decide for yourself where your limit is. Where your boundaries are. But whatever you decide, make sure that you are willing to LIVE with it. Because----now that you've taken back control over your own experience---you are no longer a victim of their bad behavior, and are now responsible for the choice you have now made.

I totally support your opinion here but unfortunately your solution to the problem may create more problems. Tying it to one kill basically means that player kills an opponent then goes right back to pushing the joystick every few seconds. And frankly (I'm not a PvP dynamo by any means and am not trying to insult anyone) there are some people who could try ad hard as they can and not land a kill, especially against a good team. I've thought about this in the past, and the simple input recognition system they use now doesn't help. As you've pointed out it's far too easy to exploit this system by simply tapping a button or two before you're timed out for inactivity. Every player will be doing at least three things while playing, it doesn't matter if it's PvP or PvE: 1. Moving 2. Giving damage 3. Receiving damage Say we were to have a system where the game looks to see if in the last 2 minutes you have either moved out of a certain radius, taken any damage, or given damage to a player or AI opponent. If not, you get a prompt you must reply to with in a few seconds or you're booted from the match. I believe this would also help discourage camping as well as going AFK, while also giving good snipers a chance to use their skills.

          • I will sometimes stand around at the start of a match. Not because I want to grief others, but because I picked the wrong skill tree for the challenges. So I have to spend a couple of minutes to change over to the right tree and then change all my gear to that subclass. Also I may change my load out depending on the map we are on. I wish they would enable you to see what the challenges are before you enter the activity.

              • I’ve seen this twice. In one game there was a person doing the high kick emote and in another it was a hunter waving. I was baffled as to why they would even be playing. That said I’ve also been dropped into a game already well under way. So under way in fact that I may only have a few seconds to find and kill an opponent. I’d hate to be penalized for no kills if I got dropped in late in the game.

              • Bungie should make the best rewards incentivized on actual performance, not mere participation. You can get nearly all your milestones by standing idle. So someone who is after the rewards and doesn’t care for the gameplay has little incentive not to go idle.

They paid money for a product the same as anyone else and have an absolute right to play whichever way they want. For my part, I don't give a shiny shite what some random person (or group)I've never met or spoken to, or ever will, gets from a drop. I do not, nor do I expect others to do so on my behalf, live my life vicariously. FriendGame my arse: fascism more like!

                  • Report them on your platform, not in the game. I did it several times in mayhem and got replies from Xbox saying actions were taken. Adding in notes on what happened is also helpful

                  • Unfortunately, reporting them in-game is one of your best options. The only thing that would be more effective than this would probably be filling out this form. It will allow you to explain in detail what happened with the game as well as letting you provide links to screenshots or gameplay footage of that person. Other than that, I'd recommend that Bungie institute an option to vote to kick a player from the team on certain playlists. That way, if there's a 4th person doing that, 3 people could vote and kick that person. This would free up a slot to bring in a productive player and should also prevent them from matchmaking for at least 15 minutes.

I also detest those players (normally Hunters), that rush the heavy ammo then crouch with their sword near it on a corner, they then don't help in any way except to wait like some spider until an opposing team member attempts to grab the heavy spawn, then the pop out and attack, usually nicking the heavy again and slinking back into a crouch again.😬 Then there's those team mates that see you waiting the last 5 seconds for that heavy ammo, then then shoulder charge or push you off the heavy😬, bungo you gotta find a way to stop this.
