FE 428 7.0 liter V-8 in my 66 Thunderbird.
What's the most excited you've ever been/the coolest thing you've been able to do on a car project?
Respect to you guys and gals who can do major engine work yourself, I'm decently knowledgeable and skilled, but some stuff is just out of my league.
Replacing just about everything from the timing chain and gears to the oil pan gasket, cleaning & painting the engine bay, painting the block, valve covers, brand new carburetor, ignition kit, wires, cooling system, radiator, expansion tank, water pump, the whole works. Transmission tune up as well. Luckily transmission doesn't need a rebuild. Going to be without her for 2 weeks.
They gave me a huge price break for being a loyal customer over the last several years, and it's going to be used in their marketing material and shown at their car show.
I've never been this excited to get something done on my car, and never thought I'd be able to afford this level of work from a mechanic with their expertise and reputation. They build cars and show at SEMA, won a few awards and it's awesome that they are helping me out like this.
I live in an area where most guys find an old Camaro or GTO, drop it off at this mechanic and say "restore it, make it badass" and don't worry about the price tag. Some quotes just for paint from them start at 10k and go up to 40k, So this is really exciting for a poor dude like me.
It's not going to be super show quality like you'd see in magazines or anything, but it's way more than I ever thought I'd be able to get done, and way more than I'd ever be able to do on my own, even if I had the space and the tools to do the work.
2 RepliesWhy are you just replacing the oil pan gasket? If it’s leaking the pan itself may be cracked and need to be replaced.
