Possible concepts of Caer Lerion

During my playthrough of Destiny 2 on PS4, I have encountered an interesting lore piece from a PS exclusive armor set that may hearken back to early concepts in Destiny’s development history. The item description for the Terra Concord Mark armor reads as follows, “The orbital city of Caer Lerion was one of Earth's crowning achievements in the Golden Age.” Unfortunately, the city crashed into Earth during the Collapse as indicated in the description for Terra Concord armor set from the official Playstation website which reads, “Armor formed from the wreckage of Golden Age orbital city Caer Lerion, which plummeted to Earth centuries ago in the Collapse.” According to the Art of Destiny 1 book and the Gamesradar article, the concept art above was originally intended to depict the Tower and our home city, so it is possible that the Tower was originally based on Caer Lerion which would have easily invited nice comparisons to Mass Effect’s Citadel (The Old Welsh word Caer means “Stronghold”, “Fortress” or “Citadel”). On the other hand, it is also possible that Caer Lerion was conceived during Destiny 2’s development in which the concept art above served as direct inspiration since the Terra Concord armor sets were made from the salvaged remains of the orbital city and share similar design and colour patterns as the structure in the concept art if we notice the green and white tint in the default shaders of the armor sets. Moreover, the red tint in the default shader might be derived from another concept art in which the ship became the Traveler according to the Gamesradar article and Art of Destiny 1 book. The salvaging process is referenced throughout the item descriptions for the other Terra Concord armor sets. In conclusion, it remains to be seen whether Caer Lerion was conceived early in Destiny’s history or during the development of Destiny 2 where these early concepts carried over to the current lore of Caer Lerion which seems to most likely be the case here as these ideas were abandoned previously because according to the book, they wanted to emphasize the fantasy elements more but perhaps, they decided to revisit the concepts later on as Destiny is still a sci-fi franchise. It is an exciting prospect to see the Ruins of Caer Lerion be a future Earth destination where it incorporates the cool and unique architecture and design elements in the concept art which was the case for the pyramid ships, although I wished that it was already present in Destiny 2 as it would be a nice homage to the lost marvels of the Golden Age and a reminder of the current state of the last city which in my opinion, fits nicely into Destiny 2’s somber tone and overall post-apocalyptic sci-fi setting. Also, it would be a nice location for a Crucible map. I appreciate hearing your thoughts and feedback on this topic. References: - 1.
