IMO it shouldn’t! Who cares if some weapons or abilities are stronger than others.
If this were Halo, COD, or Overwatch; I could understand wanting balance. All those games are MLG and offer pro level pvp.
The “pro” pvp in Destiny is paid trials carries, it’s more of a novelty. I don’t think pvp should be so broken that nobody plays it, but it shouldn’t be a main consideration.

Destiny is in an identity crisis. Bungie obviously wants the game to be a MLG contender and they're trying to figure out how to make that possible while still maintaining a PVE core. Their identity is currently stuck somewhere between Quake (arena) and Counter Strike (tactical) shooter. It's not working, and it's not working for a variety of reasons. 4v4 is dumb as hell, and the map design is -blam!- big for anything less than 5v5 with the current movement mechanics. Obviously the huge market for games is in competitive pvp, so even if the majority of Destiny players want a PVE centric experience, they're still a minority in the video game/console market, especially when it comes to FPS. I think PVE and PVP can be balanced, but not with their current philosophy on either.

2 RepliesNo. And the overemphasis on PVP and providing "shooter-like balance" is the source of 90% of this game's ongoing problems. Bungie probably intended to make Destiny primarily a shooter game....and sees themselves as primarily the developer of shooter games. But the reality is that Destiny is primarily a LOOT-BASED RPG, and the community that supports the game is predominantly PVE...and sees the game as a loot-based RPG. Not a shooter. If you look at Destiny tracker, PVE engagement numbers are always higher than that of PVP. Always. So having game design and tuning choices CONSTANTLY being driven by the wants-and-needs of a minority of the player base is only going to frustrate and alienate the MAJORITY. Which is why I keep saying that this stubborn refusal on the part of Bungie to either separate the sandboxes....or LET GO of the legacy of Halo and its competitive PVP....is slowly choking the LIFE out of this game. Because it keeps UNDERMINING the quality of the game they actually made....and keeps pissing off the vast majority of the people who actually play and support this game. Its incredibly stupid and stubborn brand management.

They really just need set loadouts for pvp. Sure keep each archtype. Only one of each type though. But individual weapons need to go. PvP would be balanced, and then they can focus on PvE.
