Why would anyone pay someone to play a game for You? This is disgraceful.
Please explain this to me if you have ever done this.
EDIT: I appreciate the replies. I understand that there is a vast difference between "play-for" transactions and helping a buddy who is less skilled accomplish something in game by playing with them (With paid carries being somewhere between the two).
Also, of course, everyone is free to engage in commerce within the bounds of the law and, for some, the gear received may be worth the cost of paying someone to get it for you. This does, though, raise larger questions about ethics in gaming and the value of having earned what you have.
Finally, as is the case in for many other disciplines, there is an opportunity for skilled and less skilled players to interact in a very different way.
Though I personally would never pay to get through content, I would consider paying a skilled player/coach to help me to get better. I have seen this offered in the fighting game genre but never for an FPS. Is anyone aware of this occuring?
EDIT2: Upon further reflection, I believe that the structure of trials itself is partly to blame for this activity. It just shouldn't be possible for an entire class of players to be able to go flawless consistently, much less "guarantee" it.
From what I've been able to gather, matchmaking in trials is entirely random, i.e. the # of wins on each teams card is not considered (please correct if anyone has more insight into this).
A simple fix would then be to have each team face another with the same record at each step of the way. This would widen the difficulty range of the event making it both more accessible and more elite at the same time. It would also reduce the instances of paid carries and make a flawless card a truly special thing.

1 ReplyThe rewards are among the best in the game but the trials community can be toxic especially to an average PVP player. Matchmaking buffers players from a lot of that because you’re not on mic or LFG, but trials doesn’t have this so you have to endure a long and negative experience at times just to have a chance for some of the loot. Putting in substantial time to improve still isn’t likely to allow such a player to be competitive against carry teams..... The flawless concept is responsible for the culture of trials and why people pay for carries . Trials needs an overhaul IMO

1 ReplyWhy is this game still a thing?
-
Paid carries aren't an issue with just Destiny. Any game with high difficulty activities that have a multiplayer aspect will have players asking for paid carries. Its very common, its trash but still it happens.
-
I once saw a dude who was charging something over 500 dollars for flawless Trials run on all three characters and a guarenteed beetle emblem. Yeah. "Welcome to Destiny, where we charge money for things you could do for free."

19 RepliesI'm 1mm away from paying for a carry for the prestige raid. It sounds silly but I am really good at PvE and always have been. I can't find the time to run Calus with a group of random incompetent people, and anyone else that has cleared it and knows how to do it won't let me into their group because I "haven't cleared it" as per raid report. It's so frustrating and annoying. I just want to get one clear so I can run it regularly without being frustrated with both types of groups.
-
Well it's simple. Money ummm greed and people who have money use it to get what they want. Houses cars trials carries. You get the picture?
-
Is faster than LFG due to lack of matchmaking, bungie wont ban you and is cheap... Trials of Ebay started in D1.

1 ReplySort of feel the same way. On one hand, it's a game and there's certain things that people want that they can't get on their own. On the other hand, being carried portrays a facade of skill. It's especially bad when people run around wearing Trials gear and sporting their emblems when they didn't really do much, if anything, to earn them. It just cheapens the whole thing and ends up being a frustrating experience for people who had to become better in order to earn those things for themselves. In regards to your coaching question, I have heard of some people in the Destiny 2 community doing this, but it's rare and I haven't seen any instances of it being a paid experience. Last I heard, some of the guys over at the Crucible Playbook subreddit are planning on creating a PvP bootcamp once private matches officially launch.

2 RepliesI pay because I don't have time to play, but I want the rewards
-
3 RepliesI would never pay to get carried, but I don’t really care if people are doing it. Though I don’t totally disagree with you, I’ll play devil’s advocate because I do see there are two sides to the coin. If I hire a gardener to take care of my landscaping am I somehow being shifty? Am I abusing the system because I didn’t earn my beautiful garden? No, I just have better things to do, so I’d rather hire someone to do it. My time is worth more to me than the cost of getting someone else to do it. It’s a service, plain as that. I’m sure there would still be neighbours that would complain that they had to work hard to get their garden, but that wouldn’t make them more entitled to it. Same goes for paid carries.

5 RepliesYou talk ethics in gaming - this company throttled XP and tokens and forced most of it's content behind a pay-wall...ethics? Why should any of us care about ethics...
-
1 ReplyBecause people are stupid enough to buy for carries. I don’t blame the people offering the services, I blame the consumers.
-
Because bungie loves people being carried so they can say “this game play is only for the elite... or if you pay for it”. I feel they let it happen because they will eventually sell you carries themselves.
-
3 RepliesWhich is why trials cards should be bought with silver, that way Bungie can make money off trials. Trials and you tubers is what ruined the game.
-
Because people have money to burn. If you think this is bad, you should check out CS:GO where a sniper rifle skin sold for $15,000. Or TF2 where a very rare hat with a special cosmetic effect sold for $2,000.

13 RepliesThis game is dead, there can’t possibly be that many people playing. It’s pretty high on PS4, but that makes sense because they literally have no other games with longevity. Plus it’s the casual console
-
1 ReplyPaid carries are probably a thing everywhere. Problem is that the other companies don't keep them around to try to convince themselves that the game mode that can have an argument for causing some of the mess in both games (not all, mind you) in terms of nerfing was a good idea. It's more or less bolstered player numbers for the stockholders. I don't know why there isn't a dedicated team shutting down paid carries but there isn't one, and based on current efforts, one is desperately needed.
inb4ban
Paid carries and Cheaters is all that's left....burn Trials!

Edited by lxl R3APER lxl: 2/11/2018 11:00:09 PMWho would lie about a game and promise a ton of loot after a 3 year beta......... O wait bungie
-
Edited by Racebum: 2/11/2018 10:27:42 PMSome of it may be fake. Streamer puts up a thing on stream showing someone paying or someone donating. None of it is actually happening but they want to paint the picture that it is to try and encourage real people to do it. Same with the recruitment posts. The guy has his buddies or alt accounts respond. Painting that picture like people are actually doing it.
-
Shhhhhhh, not allowed to talk about such things. they may be listening
-
Well there is a Paid Carry section in the Recruitment Forums, so I guess Bungie is Cool with it.

It says a lot ( of bad things ) about Destiny and Destiny 2 that the certain players would rather pay another person to play the game for them instead of playing it themselves. Gaming is one of my preferred hobbies of choice because I get enjoyment from playing games. If I’d rather pay another person to pay a game for than play it myself, that means that ‘said’ game ( or activity ) isn’t fun.

With how much time and effort it can take to actually earn the end game loot, 20$ in exchange for some of that loot isn’t a crazy deal. You get the fun stuff and put in none of the effort. I don’t really like it but it is what it is. Someone may do it cause they need money or cause they’re greedy and either way as long as it isn’t those sites like guardian services that charge you insane prices for stuff streamers do for next to nothing, I’m happy
