It is seriously disappointing how shallow and boring the story was the greatest guardian of all time reduced to garbage. The writing ingame in bungie games have never been amazing but damn curse of osiris is just bad. Were you not expecting going to past wars through the infinite forest simulation, or having osiris be conflicted and struggle to come back to the city he abaonded?
You know what we got instead sagira and her jokes! Joke joke joke haha so funny lol no it is not funny we have enough joke type characters. The ghost of osiris acts more like a sassy teenage girl than the companion of the most imfamous guardian to exist and frankly it is sad.
Another thing is with vance what the hell happened im assuming it was another "lul let's make a joke character" moments but damn. Was he ever referenced to be some comical stalker in d1 if he was i sure didn't see it another potentially interesting character gutted for the sake of comic relief.
Osiris is the worst of them all who was expecting osiris to be fightning the vex with dawnblade while using vex converted weapons and at the end have deliver a devastating blow from a cool boss? Nope sorry we are going to make osiris absent for 80 percent of the dlc you wanted complex lore or for him to come back to the tower now that the speaker is gone ehh i think he will just be a mission giver.
The curse of osiris was perhaps the most sad dlc storyline and i don't say this to hate i say this so we dont get this again. Stop with the jokes return the story to it's serious roots like with ttk and vanilla destiny. Stop butchering character's if they are important figures in the lore do them justice read up on them and make a story so badass no one will hate it. A honestly couldn't even imagine a dlc about osiris could be bad from reading the grimoire about him and that's shameful you cant have a bad cinematic campaign and no new raid that's a combo for failure. The dark below was considered the worst expansion in destiny but people still loved it because the story was dark and meaningful you felt like you had to destroy crota. No jokes no one liners just action.
I enjoy the universe in this game i don't want it to turn into some happy go lucky joke guardians of the galaxy type thing make destiny serious again
2 RepliesEdited by TheLastSeabass: 2/5/2018 2:22:09 AMProbably same writer as vanilla. Failsafe is cringe worthy ripoff of Ordis from Warframe they intended to be comedy relief of Claptrap from Borderlands.

17 RepliesIt warms my heart to see the common consensus being that Marge Stohl sucks. I tried to release information regarding her history with Marvel, only to have it locked and hidden by DMG in an effort to prevent the truth from coming out. You guys have the same cancer that Marvel is currently purging itself of. All I can recommend is you all take a strong stance now, because if you let her, she'll kill off Cayde 6. I promise you

Honestly I thought it was pretty good.
but that may have been because me and my friends decided that every time someone said the word vex we would take a shot of beer 🍻. Then after That I wrote my experience with the dlc. You can find that post some where deep in the lore tab. Or if enough people like this comment I will repost it with no edits.
4 RepliesStill don't know what the actual curse of Osiris was. Was he cursed? Did he curse? Maybe he was cursed to make no difference in the Destiny universe.

God I can’t agree with this more. Over the last few months my 7 year old kiddo has super gotten into Destiny 1 and 2 (still plays both). I have been a constant lore-whore for this game. BECAUSE I LOVE IT. No, not the in game stuff as much, but the grimiores. What links to this, who was involved with that, and which rabbit hole leads to the 17 other rabbit holes. Last night I spent literally 3 hours explaining sooooo much of the story, certain characters in the entire line of Destiny’s history. It was at that point, however, that I realized I didn’t tell him practically anything I learned from Destiny 2. That prompted me to think about... why. I played all of Destiny 2. I got through, and mined, as much story as I could. No questions I had hoped would be answered have even been close to answered. CoO made me feel really sad inside. It’s not that I have a problem with the terrible humour, I can get ticked by it from time to time. But there has virtually been... just nothing of substance to note. Destiny 2, so far, gives me much less hope that even a fraction of the thousands of questions I still have will ever be fully, or hell, even partially answered. I miss the Grimiore books. I literally read them like a bible. I have read all of them from D1 AT LEAST 3 times over, if not for finding relevant information I may have missed. It was fun. The game was fun enough, but I didn’t play it because it presented to me with a grand story on its surface. It dangled /just enough/ in front of you that, should one want to learn more, they were able to. And them some. Not all of it was perfect by any means, but it provided me with a unique experience, and I loved it. Sadly, my spark was lost going into D2 when I learned that Bungie was canning any relevant “Darkness” and purging the word from the game because “we actually didn’t really have an idea what the darkness is.” It’s not that I had a problem with writers admitting that they didn’t have a specific understanding of a mysterious element they added to the game. It’s how they HANDLED IT. Learning what “the darkness” was, vague as it was, was part of the fun for me. I have very sound theories as to “what the darkness” ultimate was. I felt it was a massive missed opportunity for the writers to not say “Look, at Vanilla Destiny’s launch, we collectively didn’t know 100% what ‘The Darkness’ was. It was a vague reference to the evils of the Destiny universe. We have grown, as a team, side by side with guardians, but so has ‘The Darkness’. We admit today we have a better understanding of ‘The Darkness’ than we did at D1’s launch.” That would effectively keep the mystery of “The Darkess” alive, while admitting to simple human indescrepancy. As writers, we grow. We learn. Even in our own worlds we helped to create. I get that they wanted to scrub “The Darkness” because of its vagueness, but that was PART OF THE MYSTERY. We figured “The Darkness” was “bad guys” but then that’s subject to “Well, who is technically the most evil? Because we as guardians can be pretty evil as well.” I loved the vagueness of it, because they threw in little tibits of, what I though, was an evolution and understanding of what “The Darkness” is (such as the worms/ahamkar). But we didn’t ultimately know. They didn’t ultimately know. And that’s fine, but again... I felt it was a massive missed opportunity, and massive middle finger to my fellow lore-whores who gleaned all information we could from the world and the grimiore cards we could to answer one of the TOP questions I’ve ever had: what is the darkness? tl;dr - I miss the original presentation of story telling for this franchise. Currently, it’s a massive disservice and injustice to those who, like myself, genuinely love the incredibly (and surpringly deep) lore that makes up this game. Even in D1, kids were able to play and breeze through things and not have to worry about wasting time with “story”. They gave the rest of us who did care a system to learn. I’m D2, it’s the same. Except we have no grimiore system. Fire your writers and hire me. I’ll f*king bring this sh*t back singlehandedly. I’m literally a walking encylopedia for this game’s story and I don’t want to lose hope in the game. More specifically, like a fan awaiting the next book in a fantasy series to drop, I want to actually see it happen and I’m scared it won’t. Terrified actually.

2 RepliesAll the best of Bungie’s storyline happens off-screen / over comms chatter or before the story of the game. Think about the stuff we Actually SEE... from D1 Y1 to Curse of Osiris. We never actually saw any important / legendary moments on screen in D1, until Rise Of Iron. Seeing how Saladin lost his team was the first time you thought, Man.... that was intense, I understand why he is the way he is now (based on something IN Game, and not the Grimoire). Y3, when the live team took over, is the basis for MOST of the “why isn’t this in the game?” everyone keeps talking about, feature and storywise. The main team who made D2 branched off before that. We get D2, and it’s admittedly a bit better... the opening mission is amazing. The final march through the city, amazing. The final boss fight with Osiris’ reflections, cool. But other than these few moments... it’s more of the same. Everything cool happens off screen or over the Comms. Now again, the live team is taking over... suddenly we have communication, a road map, fixes, actual conversation. So, there is hope. The next big drop, it HAS to be bigger, more fleshed out, more interesting than CoO. Unfortunately, if it really is based on Rasputin and the Warminds, it’s almost surely going to be more of the same... how do you make a character related to a disembodied AI? Narrative choices, man. I don’t know if they know HOW to tell a story in this world yet. The Savathun strike comes to mind, having Taeko and the entire team die over comms chatter was just a slap in the face; It screams that no lessons were learned from D1’s storytelling. Wouldn’t it have been more useful to have someone survive and talk to you, share emotions, even join in the tower as a reminder of that threat you destroyed. Even with a bunch of cutscenes featuring Ghaul, you See NOTHING “real” about him. You see him as leader, on his ship, in his chambers, pontificating about.... nothing.... across various conversations branching from that singular facet of his existence. Ghaul’s dialogue plays out more like fleshed out fan-fiction, especially during the “boss fight.” Bungie knows how to write a “Story Arc,” but that is not the same as a story... I don’t know if they’ve quite realized it yet but they have yet to tell a coherent beginning, middle and end with engaging characters. D2 was better than D1 Y1, but... it still devolved into fetch quests with exposition over comms chatter and characters you might have met dying off screen. The Speaker (presumably) dies, and yet... what have we seen the Speaker do besides give a little pep talk from behind a mask? Why kill off a massively important character, with no resolution or natural character arc having led him to that point? Well your answer is in what Luke Smith (there’s that name again) said about The Stranger. The fact that anyone could think that character was “wrapped up nicely” is mind-blowing. Because she gave us a “cool gun”, her story is resolved? How? She hasn’t even had time to explain the no time to explain.... Saint-14, another wasted character (though his “dead body” WAS in the Simulant FUTURE so they could bring him back if they wanted to be smart. Other than that, they thought just having his body floating in a room full of destroyed Vex was good storytelling. No... that’s okay for world building... but having seen a flashback or vision of him lost in the forest and fighting tooth and nail “forever” waiting to be saved from that endless digital hell would have been “better than okay.” And... not just another occurrence “off screen.” Anyway, here’s hoping for better days. Chris Barrett is a smart man. Hopefully his sway reaches the story team, both game and comic.

Look. Destiny 2 is aimed at children. Thats why it must be funny and with rainbows and unicorns. Thats why they made it without any gore. Thats why they do not swear, thats why the story is so simple and dull, that's why they make a book with pictures, and not serious lore. They hired some washed out children artist because its cheaper than hireing someone who writes for adults and this is the result. Even I cringe when I hear Brother Vans say "Did he say something about me?" and thank god I got the Sagria Shell so that I could stop going to that god forsaken place where I hold F to "forge" ... Thank god I got back to The Division - a game for adults.

2 RepliesThe brother Vance stuff is the worst. He totally sounds like a creepy stalker. So much so, I wouldn’t be surprised if Osiris was actually hiding this entire time to get away from him. Wtf is that about? It’s off putting. Very weird. And this is what Bungie thought would be good? Kind of sick and twisted. Vance is a sick twisted freak now.

CoO is the worst expansion in Destiny history. At least TDB had an interesting story.

Seriously so tired of quip characters. Quip bot aka cayde-6 was quite enough.

Edited by Astral Dark: 2/2/2018 9:33:16 PMThe problem here was 2 fold... 1. Luke Smiths vision for destiny was to make it comic book style so he got a comic book writing team. This was done to make it more appealing to children in his opinion but obviously hes lost. 2. The comic writing team did a wretched job with the dialogue, picking what lore to use... interpreting the characters... and capped it with a severe disdain for "respect" or "belief" or "faith" of any kind leaving all characters unbearably shallow. Remember... Vance used to be cool at one point... In D1 he had almost no dialogue but was shockingly interesting. In D2 he just wants senpai to notice him. I dont know how these people havnt been axed already, but rest assured in the same teams hands D3 will not be worth buying.

1 ReplyI can agree the writing in D2 isn't anything really amazing, I would prefer if the game took a more serious dark approach with the occasional joke mixed in. When most of the characters are "funny" none of them are.
-
1 ReplyBrother Vance was dwindled down to a fanboy and not a disciple. I hated this watered down story.

Edited by Guardian3263: 2/4/2018 2:54:41 PMThe comic was a little rough to get through, and the Sagira end dialogue was definitely a lazy attempt for humor utilizing her sarcastic nature. Destiny 2 had flashes of quality, in my opinion, but they were lost in what appears to be: - A shift in the tone - Too many punchlines, too many misses. Instead of balance, they went way too far looking for humor but did not have the characters or dialogue to really drive it home with almost every punchline - Flat characters being dressed up as round, dynamic ones (a symptom of how rushed the game is and the lack of and storytelling grimoire in game). Great characterization can be done with the simplest of strokes, however, the painters in this case are missing time and time again. I enjoyed the Vanguard leaders but did not care about them; they lack substance and depth. - Also, the game pushed for cinematic story telling but relied on tropes and archetypes to deliver. We did not see anything that makes these characters more interesting than the frame they exist in. - A rushed game -- again A lot of people blame Stohl. I don't think that's fair; writers fail and grow (for the most part). I'd be more willing to blame her lead narratively if the whole game didn't feel hollow and rushed. D1's vanilla story was just as empty, as were its characters. People retreated to the lore in the grimoire for salvation. The problem is the grimoire was always a part of an inherited story that Bungie seems confused on how to tell while meeting these development deadlines. Add in development hell reboots and God knows what else, and you've got this mess. I'm not saying I could help as a writer, but I'd certainly love to know the discussions that lead to these decisions.

2 RepliesOK... Sagira: Sagira was really the main new character in the story, and I had no issues with her, though I liked her best in her scenes with Osiris. They set each other off well, the intense and driven Osiris and his calmer, more laid-back partner. I like having them both in strike dialogue. Brother Vance: Agreed. The characters in Wee Sing videos have more depth than he did. Osiris: His opening scene was really cool, but not much else. Since most of the story was about finding him, he had little to do, though I liked his voice actor. Call this one a missed opportunity.

It's like no one played D1
-
1 ReplyThe story telling in the entire game is childish and an embarrasment. A real shame given how incredible the lore actually is.
-
Still miss the dark vibes it had in vanilla D1. Now everything is a joke including the game itself
-
3 RepliesSeriously, what they did with Brother Vance just baffles and disturbs me. A blind Warlock, follower not fanboy, of Osiris that trained guardians after apocalyptic disasters, turns into a blind shoelicker. This writer has such a feeble grasp at the art of humor aswell. You think CoO was bad, lol, read the new comic. You'll shoot yourself in the foot.

2 RepliesThis game is not for adults can't you tell. Member Luke Smith designed the game so his 4yr old nieces could understand it I shit you not. Sadly destiny is for kids. Better have the TV Muted because your ghost will embarrass you in front of anyone that isn't a total basement dwelling neckbeard. How childish this game has become even short attention span trump said "is this designed for kids...?"

1 ReplyFirst I wanted to point out that she is a marvel SJW writer who wrote those terrible inconsistent make up stories for lady captn marvel and another black sidekick .. Marvel kicked that out of their portfolio since it was trash . But then I thought , this may get banned for some pc reason so I didn't ..

Sometimes I wonder in amazement when people who are versed in Destiny lore say that D2 has a better story than D1. How can anyone with a brain think this?
