Bungie can now retcon or hand wave the original material away. There goes what made D1 interesting.

Perhaps his heart is in the right place, and he can only do so much, but can Bungie pull through? Will the higher ups call more bad shots? MTX got abused. How will the writing and lore be treated?
Edit 2: Stohl apologizes but doesn’t clarify. More vagueness. Also, despite all the likes, Bungie mods have buried this post to hide the flack they’re getting. Going to repost this.

1 ReplyGuys, guys, guys.... There’s a pretty logical explanation for this. This game deals a LOT with time travel. I would say there’s a GOOD chance at some point we go back in time to before the collapse. It could actually be how they start D3 to explain why we don’t have all the guns we’ve gotten...again. She actually mentions “as far as the characters know”. I take this to mean she wants to leave it open for plot twists, or that we find out something at some point that isn’t exactly “as it seems” or how it has seemed so far. This makes complete sense for a lot of big franchises (X-Men anyone?). I’m not saying it’s the best idea, BUT I don’t take it to mean they are changing everything that has her happened. But who knows. I just wouldn’t overreact.

1 ReplyI think your interpretation of the Tweet may be a bit pessimistic. I think what she was trying to say is the stories and perspectives found in the Grimoire are best thought of lying anywhere on the spectrum between 100% factual and 100% fictional. Some is absolutely true (in the universe), some could be myth, and a lot of it is in between. Not sure how many folks here play Elder Scrolls, but the books found throughout those games often have different perspectives (and truths) about the same events. A good example is that history is viewed differently by the conquered vs. the conquerors. That said, maybe I'm being too generous because I still enjoy the playing the game and I could have my own bias.

I'm sure the Marvel comics she "writes" are garbage, just like her Destiny narrative and her attitude. Bungie really must want to go bankrupt if they hire arrogant morons like her.

1 ReplyEdited by piratepatchy243: 1/28/2018 10:54:29 AMSo everything grimiore isn't canon unless they say, smfh the lore is going to get so -blam!-ing confusing they can't even track it or stay consistent. Oh wait they don't anyway, only tabs and third party sites( that aren't theirs ). They've used bits already with sub-class missions, so is that canon because lore from those are from grimiore through out D1? Not just year 1, there's dialog for almost every part of D1 in it and scanables. So pick and choose -blam!-ing wonderful, I bet the loremasters are going to have a great time with this( not to mention they haven't said much lately ). The comic book is a nice concept, but I don't think it's any good. To me the impressions of the characters just didn't seem right. Although I bet many that thought ill of the speaker agreed with it. With as little story as there is still they should keep as much lore as possible.

1 ReplyF ucking lazy cop out

I think it's a bit rubbish, why do we need to have all the best stories relegated to "legends" and "folklore" that can disappear if it becomes inconvenient. I'd understand if they were revamping these stories and putting them back in D2 in a form of a codex but i'm not confident that'll ever happen.
-
1 ReplyThat is just further proof that D1 was a beta. D2 is the pvp oriented beta. This game feelis like it has no sense of direction and nobody at HQ can decide what it should be.
-
And there goes the last vestige of hope for this franchise... Bungie is sheer garbage. The only real source of quality writing and Lore and they're trashing it? GTFO.
-
Ugh. Terrific. Bungie can’t even commit to the lore they spent 3 years making. “Folklore”? You get most of the Grimoire from dead ghosts! You’re saying these ghosts were operating entirely on myths and rumors? Unbelievable. Yet another shit decision.
-
5 RepliesThis is just -blam!-ing lazy. I get that writers want to tell their own stories, but throwing the entire lore from the first game straight into the air and seeing what comes back down is just bullshit. Bungie may as well end the franchise with D2. No more expansions after the second one, please. I’m over it. Bungie, if you’re reading, just move on from Destiny. The game isn’t worth to you or us anymore. We’d all be better off if you regrouped and came back in a few years with a new project.
-
1 ReplyThey pulled a Disney? You know. When Disney acquired Star Wars and said that 95% of the books were no longer canon.
-
2 RepliesEdited by Avelithe: 1/28/2018 3:20:50 PMThat is a slap to the face to those of us who enjoyed the “lore”. But why, Bungie? If grimoire was folklore in D1, that should have been long since established, at LEAST. Instead, you just willy-nilly announce that the Stranger’s story is done (bull), and oh, the grimoire was just a bunch of fairy tales, don’t pay them any mind. Ugh, your game company is frustrating as hell. I really need to stop visiting the forums. It just gets more and more depressing. New thought (edit): There were missions we all had to do when we got our supers back. Characters quoted D1 grimoire, so I doubt the grimoire is considered “folklore”. And I’m assuming folklore means false tales like Bigfoot, which was considered folklore. I’m thinking whoever said these things on Reddit might be talking out of her butt.

Just another show of bungie being pieces of shit. No surprise there...
-
Seen it coming the moment original writers left the D1 team. Sad. Feels like most of Bungie's enigmatic magic is gone at this point. At least some are going back to 343.
-
The narrative director in the game is just like the sandbox director. Inept . Lazy. Unquestionably so. Things just go from bad to worse at Bungie
-
That's actually my last hope, gone. I quit playing awhile ago but this reinforces my desire to never come back.
-
3 RepliesI don't know why anyone is surprised by this. Many, many people pointed out the lack of story in D1. "There is a great story if you read the grimoire....." was the common response. The grimoire was nice, but wasn't a story. It was a collection of folklore, based on fragments of information. Some of it may be fact, but most of it is folklore. Because obviously the Traveller didn't give us the knowledge to allow us to record our history and store it safely for future generations. Terraform a planet? Hell yes. Write a digital history book? Nope.

That hurts me....

Edited by CaptainMericah: 1/28/2018 6:09:42 PMDeej, Cozmo, and Dmg are all sitting at home reading the forums thinking, “-blam!-in Margaret 🙄.”

9 RepliesWhy is it that people always use "cannon" instead of "canon"? Canon is something that is considered true to a story. A cannon is an artillery weapon.
-
5 RepliesOh god..... I am so looking forward to moving onto Monster Hunter, Sea of Theives and Arc. I can't take much more of what Bungie has become...
-
4 RepliesIt's not the devs fault, they made the game how they like it, it's your's, you keep complaining about it, stop it, IT'S JUST A GAME.

2 RepliesCmon man d1 story was heavily criticised anyway. Its probably a good thing to try and start fresh.
