Bungie can now retcon or hand wave the original material away. There goes what made D1 interesting.

Thoughts?

Christopher Barrett responds:

Perhaps his heart is in the right place, and he can only do so much, but can Bungie pull through? Will the higher ups call more bad shots? MTX got abused. How will the writing and lore be treated?
Edit 2: Stohl apologizes but doesn’t clarify. More vagueness. Also, despite all the likes, Bungie mods have buried this post to hide the flack they’re getting. Going to repost this.

Edited by IronGemini: 1/29/2018 8:43:25 PMFolklore still has potential to become cannon, like Star Wars the old republic is not cannon in Star Wars, but a lot of things in SWTOR have been in canon before. Ex: The last few episodes of Star Wars the clone wars.

1 ReplyEdited by MrBelugaBiscuit: 1/29/2018 8:07:58 PMThey are locking threads like these left and right! So not only are they lying -blam!-sticks! They are now burying the negative press. Can't lock threads on Reddit or YouTube videos -blam!-es!

16 RepliesBased around those cards, I have personally made 27 theories, 9 major lore posts and summaries, answered 3 years worth of questions, and had 3 years of debate. My fellows in Ashen and the Collective have done far more than I. Just like that, everything we've ever known and written about could be wrong.
What do I think? I think this is where I hang up my weapon and check out. I'll go get myself lost in the vault of glass. Maybe I'll find a better timeline than this.
8 RepliesI would like to know what percentage of D1 players actually took time to read the grimoire. I know many people that played Destiny. None of them read that grimoire. If it wasn't actually in the game they were not interested.

24 RepliesEdited by Vegalink: 1/28/2018 10:35:13 PMChristopher Barret elaborated on twitter as to why it was specifically called folklore instead of cannon. "All that was meant - the entries in the Grimoire are written within the context of the game world by characters who might have individual opinions, perspective, or varying sources. They are bits of lore and legend." The comics are showing what literally happened. Cannon. The grimoire are perspectives on things that happened. Folklore. She DOES say both are true. People are splitting hairs a bit with this one.
-
5 Replies"folklore" is not an insult or is in anyway a negative tag to put on the grimoire. You guys are blowing this out of proportion.
-
3 RepliesDestiny shouldn’t be held back by a bunch of half-assed backstories. The original grimoire shouldn’t be cannon.

Edited by GrinderNo1: 1/29/2018 9:21:02 AMThe Book of Sorrow and Dredgen Yor lore cards were the best thing the Destiny writers have ever produced. I don't care if they're "from a certain persons perspective", they're still magnificent pieces of writing both in their own right and within the context of the game universe and it pains me deeply that the game itself continues to find even more reasons to not explore it further...

Why you should be worried about Marge Stohl https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/242554517

I don't put any stock with this Barrett character at all. No trust. Bungie seems to hate the original Destiny. They didn't want the game they created.

2 RepliesLet's boycott the comics until they give us a game that's f*cking worthwhile. Freedom of speech bungie! #consumerrights #boycottbungiecomics #dontletthemgougeyou

16 RepliesWtf do you people think "lore" is short for?
-
5 RepliesCristopher berret stayed that it’s part legend and part fact
-
5 RepliesSome people here are dumb as -blam!-. It seems a lot of people are reading what was not stated. We already know some of the cards were from certain characters' perspectives.

2 RepliesIn future college classrooms, professors will be professing about how not to run a game development company (or any company really) and using bungie as the prime example.
-
1 ReplyYou guys take this all very seriously...... ...dare I say a bit too seriously.
-
It's like they don't want us to be fans anymore. Lore was my biggest reason for loving Destiny, and now none of it is true. What a waste of time this franchise is.
-
1 ReplyI'm just glad bungo is killing off this game. They never had what it takes to make it good anyway.

Seriously week after week there’s ridiculous shit coming from bungie / destiny . The lore that was in d1 was the best part of destiny . Books of sorrow anyone . What the shit is going on with bungie . Are their heads in this bad of a place .....

I wanted Eris to turn hive and traitor. Finally give way to that black goo seeping out of her eyes and murder Vance for turning into a raving fan boy. Them murder, -blam!- and pillage Tess eververse and the tower inhabitants

Lol was going to say "inb4 damage control" earlier and of course they did later.

3 RepliesD3's storyline will probably start with the words "suddenly I woke up and realised it was all a dream..."
