Many of the weapon and item names are very obscure hints into the backstory and lore of the world, but in my experience the vast majority of players (not looking at a Destiny Lore forum) have little to no idea about that or just don't care. Maybe bridge that gap with some weapons that offer a present narrative context as a gateway/framework into the lore of the others? Just something that hints "Oh, the names have to do with the story and characters I know/invested in?". Ex: [u]Devram:[/u] Sniper rifle "Tea Time". [u]Asher:[/u] Grenade Launcher "Go Away". [u]Fail Safe:[/u] Fusion Rifle "Captain's Legacy", "All my friends are dead", "Unlocked Memory" [u]Sloan:[/u] “Power’s on”, "Soaked in Darkness", “Shock wave”, "Bigger Boat". [u]Hawthorne:[/u] "Farmer's Market", or "Camping Trip". [u]B.Vance:[/u] “Osiris Approved” (Don’t blame Osiris for his ‘fans’). [u]Ikora:[/u] "The Spoken", "Spoken Word" (For the Speaker), or "Skyjacker" [u]Cayde-6:[/u] "Loot Loop”, “Loot Time“, or “Ramen Slurp“ [u]Zavala:[/u] "New Tower", "Rebuild", or "Groundbreaking Ceremony" [i]*The context for special event characters gets murky. Not sure how aware they are, or if they care much of what happened with Ghaul or Osiris so far.[/i] [u]Saladin:[/u] Sword "Forgotten Lord" (Does he even remember us from D1?) [u]Lakshmi:[/u] “Future Legions” (don’t care if Ghaul is dead, there’s always another on the way) [u]Jalaal:[/u] “Dead Legion” (what’s the point of beating Ghaul, we’re all going to die). [u]Hideo:[/u] “Legions Age” (Ghaul cannot stop the return of the golden age) [u]Xur:[/u] “Trade War”, or "Endbargo" (Red Legion impacted sales?) [u]Amanda:[/u] Sparrow "Humblebrag" [u]Shax:[/u] "You're my favorite”, or “YAAAHHHH!” [u]Banshee 44:[/u] “Where am I?”, or “Familiar faces” [u]Tess:[/u] “The goods”, or “Expensive Dust” [u]Postmaster:[/u] “Oh Dear…” etc… Some are obviously really simple/blunt, but the idea is to be extra clear so players notice "oh yeah, such and such always says blergdy blerg, I get it. So wait, what does this other gun mean then? Oh there's a caption. Wait, who are these other names it talks about?" This way the characters (via harnessing our experience w them through gear gained) become a hook into making us care about the larger world and backstory. I'm sure plenty of people still wont care but at least this makes the ones who might enjoy it more aware that it exists. *EXTRA CREDIT: To tie the original Destiny 1 campaign to this one, maybe some weapons that tell that story too, as a way to keep it from feeling like a Dream that didn’t actually happen in the world of D2. Just enough flavor the world with some “Oh yeah, that happened too”. Maybe a special event/story with Exo Stranger? VANILLA “Moon Wizard”, “Hellmouth Dentistry”, “Even Stranger/Don’t talk to Strangers”, “Library Card / Overdue Books”, “Sibling Rivalry”, “Brass Cabals”, “Do Androids Dream of Electric Seeds?” The DARK BELOW “Mornin’ Eris”, “Below me, Darkness”, “Toland’s Song”, “Rasputin’s Playlist”, “Terminal Opera”, “Glassed Vault”, “Soul Long Crota”. HOUSE of WOLVES “Royal Reefer”, “Kell with Kindness”, “The Elder Skolas”, “Trophy Hunter”, The TAKEN KING “King takes Queen”, “Queen for a day/Long live the Queen” (works with Sibling rivalry, similar to Sturm/Drang)”, “Dread Not”, “Cayde of Spades”, “Super Mau’ual Bros”, “Order in the Court / Night Court”, “Like Father, like Son”. RISE of IRON “No Peaking”, “Bad Twizzlers (causes a SIVA Death effect)”, “Unplagued / Flu Shot”, “Raid Against the Machine”.
