Why brutes are shaved in reach.

In Halo 2 brutes were never in direct combat, you never fought them on earth, only on high charity or as the arbiter on halo. At the same time however, brutes that were sent in the frontline into new mombasa were shaved. In halo 3 they were shaved and in halo reach they are completley shaved. I believe that brutes that are sent into combat are shaved so they aren't grabbed by the fur similar to how marines can't have long hair. Another reason could be that it would make them bigger in size and mass and would make sticking them and killing them easier. This would explain why brutes aren't furry in reach. IN Halo 2 they were furry because: 1: they weren't developed enough to have different classes 2: they were never in direct combat with humans during the storyline of Halo 2. I really hate the direction they have taken brutes, they seem to have a stolen identity. Brutes should have fur, no shields, very little armour, and be completley and alway offensive and should rush teh player whenever they get a chance. In halo 3 they were too much like elites, in halo 2 they weren't developed enough, and in Reach they CENSORED SO I DON'T GET BANNED. But by the firefight footage, they seem like a halfway point between halo 2 brutes and halo 3 brutes. I want an offensive and violent -blam!- who throws things at you and swats objects away. Comes at you on all fours when berserking and never stand still. [Edited on 09.10.2010 1:05 PM PDT]

  • Brutes are divided into family clans to some extent. They are more recent Covenant inductees than the Elites, who also have a clan system, but whose assimilation into the Covenant is ancient. It makes sense that different groups of Brutes would have adopted advanced Covenant arms and armour at different rates. Tartarus and the Brutes most directly under his command were obviously traditionalists in terms of their attire, as we saw in Halo 2. And yet the Brutes encountered by the Spirit of Fire and its crew, years before Reach, had adopted heavier armour. Halo Wars doesn't make it clear if they have energy shields or not, so this can be rationalised as either the particular custom of that Brute population or faster adoption of Covenant technology. The Brutes in Halo 3 and ODST were contemporaries of Tartarus, but they were not in his immediate command, and they had adopted--or even perhaps been ordered to use--some form of power armour. The Brutes on Reach are members of yet another command. Their equipment and grooming customs are accordingly different. Or maybe hair growth patterns in Brutes differ distinctly by ancestry. We don't know, but these are possibilities. Of note, a lot of people play this "development of the Covenant between Halo: Reach and Halo 3" card. You need to keep in mind that all of the events of Bungie's Halo games happen within only the final six months of the Human-Covenant War, which had raged for nearly 27 years before Reach was invaded.

  • They are different types of brutes similar like the different types of humans. They are different because they are a different type [Edited on 09.10.2010 1:13 PM PDT]

I noticed this too but if you put in order, Reach they are shaved, Halo 2 they are really furry, Halo 3 less fur but i think it's showing how they evolve over time.

But that wouldn't work because they shave in halo 3 aswell.
mabey they shave in Halo 3 because now that they are in charge, the want to look presentible for the prophets
yeah but you have to admit, they are more scary in 2 because of the fur.

  • There was an outbreak of Space Lice in the Covenant Fleet, so the fur had to go.
