Did the powerful engram system make nightfalls and raids pointless?

Yes

In a way it did (reason please)

No

In my opinion, the powerful engram system did ruin the endgame because the game doesn't even require you to actively participate in any of the challenges to get higher end light level *cough* rewards. One of the reasons people even did nightfall was to get their light higher so they wouldn't be such a low light level when it came to doing the raids and such, but with powerful engrams giving you gear for doing basically nothing, nightfalls serve no other purpose other than to, quite literally, waste your time, because strikes are not only easier, but provide relatively the same level of reward for doing it at your own pace. And the same thing applies to raids except to a much more discomforting degree, because the raid now currently only offers you a weapon with a different skin rather than something that can be useful for the raid, same thing applies to armor. So not only are powerful engrams able to offer you gear with light level drops identical to the raid (albeit at a slower pace, but not by much) but it can also offer you the raid gear as well, and that's slapping whatever endgame destiny 2 had left straight in the face. Now do I mind getting the engrams? No. But do I think it's destroyed a core component of the game by trying to make it easier? Absolutely, because I don't have to put in any real effort other than sitting through orbit to get similar rewards to someone who dedicated their time. Sorry about the unnecessarily long post, just sharing my thoughts. Edit: Probably should have specified this...but I was talking more so about the clan engrams and not as much as the milestone engrams, but I still keep my stance in saying that the powerful engrams shouldn't be a means to end-game progression, at least for light level. • Not at all. If anything it is an incentive for people to play the game. A lot of people don't feel comfortable joining random strangers to play video games so won't do nightfalls or raids. Does that mean they shouldn't be able to progress their characters? I think the raid loot is what's putting a lot of people off. That and how it is so unforgiving. You cant really take 2-3 "noobs" through the raid without putting aside a good few hours

    • Yes. Also Clan rewards negate having to do them as well. Big shout out to Hawthorne for my Sins of the Past, Prosecutor, judgement

      • The timer was the only reason I left the nightfall alone but I may get back to it. The raids are not fun to me and I have no intention of even attempting one ever again. I'm so glad that progression is not tied to doing a tedious, stupid activity with 5 other players.

        • I think clan engrams did ruin the endgame some. This wasn't even a participation engram, because you didn't have to do anything but log in. One week someone in my clan went flawless, so I got a Trials weapon as a result. It felt odd getting loot from one of the harder activities I never played. I think Bungie thought this would encourage people to do those activities. They forgot humans will choose the path of least resistance. Giving someone something for something they don't want to do or can't do is going to keep them doing nothing.

        • One thing that bothers me is that you can get almost anything from any vendor. That and its far too easy to get legendary items.

No, It is an incentive to play the game each week To be honest, if the only way I could have levelled up was Nightfall’s and Raids I would have stopped playing in September. Nightfall now requires a fireteam unless your a super player, and Raids require 6 players So basically for people who play solo or don’t play in regular teams - Powerful Engrams allow some progression Ps You sound like that guy Datto whining about “lesser” players having the same light level / weapons as him

              • I wouldn't say so. The milestones where you get powerful engrams which ensures you get something for your efforts I think are a good incentive for actually doing them. NF loot pool is the same as (heroic) strikes loot pool so if there was another disincentive for not doing NF it would be the shared vanguard tactician loot pool. I think the clan engrams that you get from other players completing those activities are probably making those activities a bit pointless.

              • For me it is perfect. I can raise all of my 3 characters' power level a bit by each passing week. I work 9 hour per day and I have a gf so time for people like me is major effect on a game. I have only weekends free and I do not have the time to go raid or prestige and when I have the time I prefer to do Trials of the Nine. If it was more time consuming that it is now I would stop playing this game.

                • It didn't really. The fact that they made nightfalls needlessly tedious and the raid less than rewarding is what made them useless.

                  • I think it's good for leveling your character initially but I think that they should cap at 15 points below max power. I wish the notifications would stop appearing or there should be a way to disable them.

                    • I did maybe 5 NF through the course of D1, possibly did VoG 5 times and crota 2. I was thrilled when IB and strikes started dropping top light stuff. Did my first D2 NF Sunday for the for the ornament. Honestly I would have zero issue with the NF dropping better, or at least unique items, but damn add matchmaking.

                      • Not really. From what I've noticed, it gives the players more incentive to do them, since you get the milestone one as well as the clan engram.
