He takes no sides and simply explains the science behind crafting and implementing loot boxes in games. Pretty interesting .

Yuck. Gametheory

2 RepliesHere's my view, loot boxes are ok on level up but only if you can also buy everything in them on their own in game.
-
2 RepliesI saw that. GameTheory is a pretty good channel overall, you should check out more of his stuff if you haven't.

I hate them even more now. Disgusting.

3 RepliesLoot boxes are fine if they're purely cosmetic. Although when they are cosmetic try to make it feel good. Like blizzard did with overwatch, so you don't get dupes all the time.
-
1 ReplyI know this sounds crazy, but aren’t loot boxes similar in nature to booster packs in your favorite card game? (I.e Magic: the Gathering, or Pokémon)

Games like Destiny 2 I couldn’t care less. I actually like the whole bright engrams thing they have going. You earn them easily through all gameplay, you can break rewards down to currency that lets you buy what you want, and they are cosmetic. By having them available for purchase but still RNG puts the spender and the player in the same level for getting gear. I’d hate it if you could just buy the armor set for $15. Games like halo 5 are tolerable but still annoying. At least you can’t get dupes. Most console games I’ve played that have them I haven’t been impacted as a non spender and I’ve never felt gypt. If anything I enjoy them as they bring more updates (often free) to the games I love

I’m against it even more now I liked the Logan Paul joke in the beginning

Even better is that this post applys to bright engrams making it an appropriate topic of discussion on the #destiny2 forums and yet a moderator moved it to #gaming to sweep it under Destiny's rug.

I’m still against it, even after hearing both sides. The only argument I ever see in the favor of loot boxes is that you get something, and then comparing them to playing cards. But there’s a big difference between loot boxes and playing cards. For one, if you got a Pikachu or something from a Pokemon pack, that you didn’t want, you could trade it for an adorable Mawile, or sell it on ebay. While trading is occasionally allowed for digital purchases, it’s not often, and the option of selling it ebay obviously doesn’t apply either—it’s bound to you, no matter what (in most cases) But even more importantly than that, it talked about the practices that watch you specifically, changing prices, increasing drop rates, etc. Packs of playing cards don’t do that. And to be honest, if packs of cards stopped being randomized, and you purchased specific sets instead, you wouldn’t see me complaining.

3 RepliesWhen I started playing video games, there were no rewards except xp/level gains. End game content was pvp(we called it
multiplayer
) or replay campaign on higher difficulty. No better rewards just harder. Now we expect rewards for everything. We expect new content (
All new all different
) constantly. We have become a bunch of greedy bitches.
