So it looks like at some point shotguns and sniper rifles will return to the second slot.
In PVP that will be the death of every other weapon including the auto rifle. you thought the Prometheus lens problem was bad in PVP, when the second slot comes available for shotguns and sniper rifles, that is all they will be, sniper rifles and shotguns in PVP because for example it would take too long to kill with an auto rifle just like destiny one.
like destiny one shot guns and sniper rifles will be the meta of PVP permanently.
PVP players love the crutch weapons, the quick one-hit kills.
so there will be no need or no use for any other weapon. variety will go down the drain very fast

I used to love my shotgun for quickly disposing of knights and captains. Now my raid rocket is glued to my heavy slot. Previously I could use both.

About time shotguns were considered to be added to the primary pool. Could finally go back to playing as a grenadier, just as nature intended.

Bungie can't balance PvP no matter what they do. If you like the system as it is, Bungie will make sure only 7 weapons of a thousand will be good. If we go on with all the people complaining to bring back the Destiny 1 method, where you have the old system slots, congratulations!... ...your game will still be as awful as it is right now. Just different awful. Until Bungie stops releasing 1000 different kinds of guns, knowing only less than 10 will be used, it really doesn't matter what system they use.

So it looks like at some point shotguns and sniper rifles will return to the second slot.
They never actually said this. People need to stop twisting their words and speculating on the change. They literally just said "Return to glory" The one thing they never wanted, evident from all the nerfs in D1, is people running around maining shotguns and snipers. They will need to find a way to 'glorify' without having that happen. Highly doubt it will simply moving them to the second slot as that would be completely counter productive to what they envision in regards to this.

1 ReplyThere is no variety in the game as it is... Uriel's gift, last hope, origin story or mida with a pinch of better devils...

7 RepliesWhere are people getting this idea that they’re going to do any kind of major overhaul to the weapon system? It seems no one has an actual source and it’s just a rumor probably started on these shitty forums.

Edited by TheArtist: 1/16/2018 2:40:21 PMDisagree. Day one D1 player here. The Crucible in vanilla D1 had a balanced relationship between shotguns and other primaries, even though ammo for shotguns was plentiful. It was balanced because the primary weapons killed QUICKLY enough, that it required someone who was rushing you with a shotgun to be very skillful in their ability to close distance without detection to make the final push. Anyone who just blindly charged at you like a silverbacked gorilla just got melted by primary weapon fire. But the problem is that the "Halo grads" complained constantly about the fast TTK, and the usual FPS shooter suspects complained about all the game's OHK weapons. Also Weisznewski (Sandbox lead) wanted a more Haloesque style of PVP ("The game is at its best when there is less of the chaos of 6v6, and more of the slower, more team-oriented play of 3v3." Jon Weisznewski interview in 2015 for Crucible Radio) So you got this succession of endless nerfs that went on for 2.5 years until the point where the entire sandbox was thrown into chaos because the primary weapons were so underpowered that it became literally impossible to balance it....and the "special weapon metas" started taking over. Because it got to the point where anyone with a primary weapon no longer posed a threat that someone with a special weapon equipped had to respect. The bottomline, is that you can't leave the sandbox in its current condition. Because PVP will wither and die. The game play is stale, boring, and predictable at best-----absolutely infuriating at worst---- because it is SO stitled that there are only two effective ways to play: 1. Camp in a smallest part of the map you can find....and team shoot all the avenues of approach. 2. Mob up and roll around the map in an unstoppable ball of death. This is because there is basically NO FEAR of the quick multi-kll that used to force teams in Destiny 1 to avoid grouping up...and to pay attention to spacing. In Destiny 2, you can literally sand hip-to-hip and not have anything to fear. Its an a practically no-risk way to play. A no-risk way to play that gives teams on headphones such an enourmous advantage that the solo queue experience right now is absolutely miserable. My root canal was less painful than trying to play the last Iron Banner as a solo player. The game is THAT bad right no on the PVP side. The only thing that will save PVP in this game is give the solo player BACK the ability to BREAK UP TEAM SHOOTING. To put some RISK back into players mindlessly and carelessly standing next to one another. ...and the only ways you can do that is to give BACK the ability to get the quick kill. By moving snipers and shotguns (at a minimum) back to the energy slot....and changing ability cooldowns so that everyone isn't basically getting their super at the same time...and only once per match.

Edited by gallp13: 1/16/2018 2:10:50 PMAre you trying to say you’re concerned that there is a possibility this may happen ? Or has there been an announcement, I have missed, that it is happening ? Look forward to your advice.

You're assuming you'll get plenty of ammo for them. I don't think they'll give you that, you'll have a very limited supply of ammo.
-
Did i miss something, no such thing has been mentioned... as far as i know. You got a link or is this just your own deduction?

1 ReplyIf Bungie keep the flinch on Sniper's then only skilled users will be a problem with them in the second slot. As for shotgun's, since player movement speed was slowed down from the first game that weapon type will be less of a issue. I don't see why we can't have the special weapons system back,as sidearms some how managed to escape being moved over to the power weapon slot, which to me is the height of hypocrisy especially when you take into account the last hope as a example.

Autorifles need to die. The easy weapons, should never be the best weapons.

2 RepliesIn D1 there was a good chance to counter a shotgun and a sniper in the end ... no idea what you are talking about ?

Edited by RevZilla: 1/16/2018 9:57:46 AMActually when the The Taken King was released i'd pick Doctrine over a sniper or shotty.... It wasn't until year 3 that some shitty dev's who didn't even know they couldn't equip more than 1 exotic at a time decided to start nerfing EVERYTHING.... Edit: Regardless D2 will still be a shit game made by the most incompetent team assembled.
