I had a thought just now and, while not fully developed, i wanted to share it because i think its awesome in concept. What's more is that it doesnt go against the lore of the game, which has been kinda important for many, and it uses existing content.
Osiris can create simulations within the infinite forest.. Why not allow our guardians to learn that power through a brief quest, and then let us choose from a number of preset parameters and modifiers how we will progress through the forest, where we will end up, and what type of encounter we will have. Provide tiered loot based on difficulty and modifiers, etc. This is very similar to a few things in the Division such as Underground and Resistance, but also similar to Prison of Elders albeit more advanced.
Here's an example of how it would/could work:
Must be a preset fireteam of 3
Players agree on parameters and modifiers such as Time Warp, Anomolies, Burns, etc
Players agree on parameters and modifiers to increase challenge such as increased enemy attack, enemy burns, suppression for no supers (not many people are going to like this one), etc.
Players agree on present, past, or future
Players agree if there will be daemons and their difficulty something like that.
Mercury as an end and wave based stage
OR, since D2 is all about simplicity, just have 3 tiers of this thing rotate weekly with tiered rewards to match the difficulty. Similar to Prison of Elders. Make tier 3 hard as hell (think skolas).
There must be specific themed armor and weapons and there MUST be random rare drops like ships and stuff to keep people interested. The Armor and Weapons MUST have specific perks to aid players in clearing the most challenging tier.
Basically you'd start it up opposite the heroic Adventures on Mercury. The team agrees on the options and the leader hits a button called Simulate. There would be a 5 or so second cut scene with our guardian using the cubes Osiris uses to configure the simulation. You progress through the forest, which could prove pretty challenging based on what the modifiers are, and enter the wave stages of past, present, or future Mercury. From there its full on panic mode with an onslaught of enemies which culminates in a boss battle. Tier 3 would have raid mechanics...not too many, but some.
Upvote if you like it to get it noticed.

1 ReplyI like this. Simple, and with specific loot to earn, rewarding. Upvoted

1 ReplyThis exact idea and many variants of it have been posted a ton. The fact that regular players are saying this over and over makes it even more ridiculous that Bungievision saw this final product and said, "yep, that's what the people want!".

1 ReplyYeah. Random rolls and stats to min max for cooldowns like we had in D1

I like the idea except for one thing. Somehow there should be matchmaking or an option to go solo. Some people such as myself mostly play solo so it'd be nice to be able to have a choice.

1 ReplyHey now did you not see all those updates they are doing? It takes time for 500+ devs and millions of dollars to do those 8+ Months. Just be happy by the end of 2018 youll get all those updates.

1 ReplyI'd be down with it, I'd like to see them do all kinds of past, present, future locations like Dark Mars, past Venus, etc.

1 ReplyI like it, and I agree the Infinite Forest could be an 'endgame' random map system. You could collect certain mods which modify the parameters of each instance of a map you create. Maps based on Dark Mars, Dark Mercury, Sumulant Past, etc... could drop from tough bosses in PvE. More Mods that add difficulty would increase the rewards of successfully clearing the map.

Brmp if yr lyk it

1 ReplyBro it's to hard to make this kinda content with 500+ devs and millions of dollars.

6 RepliesEdited by Nonaki1: 1/14/2018 6:18:07 AMSounds like a decent premise. They have a goldmine with the “(In)Finite Forrest” right now that they are letting sit untapped. It’s a shame the something that was meant to be “random” was implemented as strictly linear and could only be accessed a certain way. Bungie went out of their way to create a universe with a great story and rich with lore, yet always gives us a product that only scratches the surface. I would love to see something like this put in place. How great would it be to experience something like the Battle of Six Fronts?
