Throughout my time of playing Destiny 1 I never heard anyone complain about the weapon system itself, only the weapons in that category. People complained mostly about shotguns and how overpowered they were and how underpowered fusion rifles were. By the end of Destiny 1 most of the weapons and weapon archetypes were balanced. Primary play was more abundant because death made you lose your special ammo in PvP. Shotguns, snipers, fusion rifles, and sidearms were in a good state at the end. Although, sidearms had become the new popular special weapon of that category. But special weapons still had their place and we're still used for their reliability. Plus, it gave more variety and speed to the game when it came to PvP and PvE. But now in Destiny 2 those same special weapons were brought over from Destiny 1 and plopped into the power weapon slot. Which includes rocket launchers, fusion rifles, and swords. So snipers, shotguns, and grenade launchers have to contend with rocket launchers, swords, and fusion rifles. But I feel as though fusion rifles are in a good place as it is and shouldn't be tampered with. Also, if Bungie hadn't removed machine guns, which was unwarranted; they would have to balance snipers, shotguns, and grenade launchers with rocket launchers, swords, machine gun, and fusion rifles. Which would be a lot of weapons for one category, which would be 7. In Destiny 1 the primary slot had 4 weapon types to choose from, the special weapon slot 4 weapon types to choose from, and heavy had 3 weapon types, plus the Sleeper Simulate. This allowed for space to use and try different weapons without having to go to my vault all the time. (For both solutions I think that the weapon and armor slots need to be increased for more space. This would allow for a wider variety of weapons in the inventory.) The only answers I could provide that could solve the problem would be to 1. Change the weapon system back to D1 - changing the weapon system in D2 back to D1 would bring back variety and speed that is needed for this game. The Vault Space would need to be increased so that Bungie could move all the weapons from the characters to change up the weapon system. Another thing would be to slightly increase the time-to-kill to all primary weapons, if necessary, to go inline with the weapon system returning from D1. - or - 2. Keep the weapon system right now but change somethings - keep the weapon system right now but buff the effectiveness of shotguns, snipers, and grenade launchers. Each weapon needs to have a strength and weakness that makes useful in certain situations. Right now rocket launchers and fusion rifles dominate the crucible, while also dominating PvE, along with swords. A buff in damage for both shotguns, grenade launchers, and snipers is greatly needed for PvE. Moving sway for snipers has to be removed and flinch must be reduced. Shotguns need a slight increase in range, depending on the category and if it already has good range.
