This feels off topic but is Shin still alive?

It's either Shin or Ana Bray. It depends on interpretation of some confusing timelines in the game. From Yor: http://www.ishtar-collective.net/items/cloak-of-dredgen-yor?highlight=Yor Yor was in the crucible, so by default was after Twilight Gap since crucible was created afterward. Thus, Shin killed Yor after Twilight Gap, Ana was first. Now, something about that doesn't feel right to me, which I admit is a weak defense. But that puts the Shin/Yor events in more modern history than it seems when I read the grimoire. Shins story is listed in the dark age cards (in part) along with iron lords, pre city stuff, which always made me think the Yor events were older than Twilight Gap, where the city was well established. But since no events are well established on a timeline, it could be either

Who knows? The Traveler released the ghosts at about the same time, so there could have been a case where 2 gunslingers were resurrected at the same time. It is pretty unlikely though.

The lore on all the first Super uses are pretty vague Ana Bray was originally thought to be the first Gunslinger when Destiny came out, but then we learned of Shin Malphur using it at a time before Ana did. So far nothing has proven that it wasn’t Shin, but nothing says he was the first and he was trained by a Guardian so could have been taught how to do that The only real evidence is that Hunters always choose to fashion their Golden Guns after Shin’s weapon, The Last Word. This is either because they want it to look like the first GG did or because the story of TLW is so popular that they just think it’s a cool thing to do

If its not Shin Malphur, it's most likely Jaren Ward. Jaren was a solo hunter that protected a small group of people outside the city walls, and Shin was just a child when Jaren first arrived. They became good friends, and when Jaren was killed by Dredgen Yor with Thorn, his ghost couldn't revive him, so Shin Malphur took up Last Word and became his ghost's new guardian and went in search of Dredgen Yor. Being that Jaren spent long years isolated from other guardians while in the village, its possible he was the first gunslinger, or just Shin's inspiration for the gunslinger
