I've tried to think up some crazy leftist excuse for why ben sharpio is unreasonable in this video about #MeToo but I can't. This should be something we can agree on in society
but knowing offtopic I shouldn't get my hopes up
7 RepliesThe point of #Metoo was to get it off their chest. To come forward and say, it's happened to me. They didn't have to tell their story, they didn't have to name anyone. Just get it off their chest that they have been a victim. So Ben demanding they name their accusers is going to do nothing more but start another "you're lying" and "do you have proof argument" amongst these women and men. They just want to get it over with. They don't want to deal with going to court, people hating on them, or saying they're suing them for money and more fame. They just want people to understand that sexual assault and harassment can and does happen to anyone, at any age. All they wanted was some relief, they were tired of bottling it up for years. #Metoo was that chance.

Edited by Nix: 1/10/2018 5:28:26 AMExcept #MeToo is about bringing attention to the very real problem of sexual assault/harassment, demanding they name whoever did it is so ridiculously detached from the actual problem I'm actually questioning Ben's perception of reality period. As someone who has experienced sexual assault, I can tell you right now simply telling someone, anyone, is half the battle of dealing with it within yourself. I fully support any movement that makes such a challenging thing easier, when people say they are heroes, everyone gets so riled up, but what is meant is that admitting to something like that is so hard, you could never imagine, with your own mind telling you it was your own fault, and society having a weird acceptance of it, proven by the backlash of the movement, not only that, but some coming forward, especially celebrities, can inspire people who feel alone and lost to step forward themselves.

11 RepliesI watched the video and I’m not even sure what he’s talking about. He seems to be criticising the #metoo campaign because he says people aren’t naming names and giving specifics. Has he been living under a rock? I don’t know how many people have been named over the last few months. From Harvey Weinstein, Dustin Hoffman, Kevin Spacey, Louis C.K. All of these people and more in fact: https://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/sexual-misconduct/amp/weinstein-here-s-growing-list-men-accused-sexual-misconduct-n816546 He’s opposed to sexual harassment and assault and he’s in favour of women telling their stories and naming names. So what’s his issue with the #MeToo campaign? It seems the only reason he doesn’t like it is because it’s mainly being driven by the left.

2 RepliesI’m not surprised that Ben Shapiro supports sexual predators.

2 RepliesI only skimmed through it, but there's two issues I see. One, this video is three months old and was recorded near the start of the campaign. Since then, dozens of those women / celebrities have come out with names and publicly talked about the specifics of what happened to them. Two, the video misses the point of the campaign. It didn't just exist for people to speak up and face their attacker. It existed just as much for people to see the magnitude of the problem and realize that it affects women from all social classes and backgrounds. And that really doesn't require someone to provide the full name and details of an attacker.

3 RepliesThe problem with #metoo plainly and simply is that it doesn’t work. The whole point is for it to be a way for people to talk about their experiences publicly, specifically those who are normally too afraid to do so. Yet the kinds of people who wouldn’t speak up before aren’t gonna suddenly speak up now there’s a hashtag for it.
