• To save Destiny 2, they need to reset the game back to how it was in D1Y1 at launch. Then do the following: 1. ONLY IF there is competitive PVP (Trials), it needs to be separated from every other mode in the game. PVE and PVP can continue to have a unified sandbox, but people need to accept that 1) it will play faster and more chaotic 2) it won't be perfectly/competitively balanced, and 3) not all outcomes will be totally skill-based outcomes. But its a looter so that isn't a big deal IMO. 2. Optional matchmaking for all modes, in-game LFG, recruiting areas, regional chat, etc. They need to address accessibility of content from the perspective of removing any/all barriers BUNGIE can remove which prevent people from participating in endgame content. Once they do this, they can stop trying to water down the advantages people who can complete the endgame repeatedly have over people who can't complete it regularly. AKA, the hardest content drops the best loot. 3. Improve RNG drop rates from how they were in Vanilla D. Drops should be easier than Vanilla D1, but not as easy as they are in D2. I think TDB had a pretty good drop rate IMO, and once you set a good drop rate, there's no reason to have 3 of Coins. 4. Reconsider the roll of quest-rewards. Quest rewards should not be ENDGAME rewards like they were in TTK. Spindle, Sleeper, Swords, etc., they were all endgame quality guns and removing them as RNG loot from endgame content reduced the incentive to play endgame content. Quest rewards should prepare you to do the endgame, not BE the endgame. An example of this? Had Red Death been a quest gun in TDB, it would have been an excellent weapon for people to try to get because it allowed you to survive the endgame encounter with Crota where you couldn't heal - but it wasn't a grind-reducing endgame gun. 5. Reconsider the in-game economy. There isn't any reason the economy needs to change with every DLC. Stop trying to water down advantages players have by running content and stocking up on economy materials like motes of lite, etc. Players need to accept that those who play more will have more. This is, after all, supposed to be an MMO/RPG hybrid game and that is a feature of MMO/RPG games. 6. Speaking of MMO/RPG's, "farming" is a part of those games, and it has a place in games like Destiny. Yes, its not as exciting as a raid, but its a component of why patrols were worth doing in Vanilla D1. Had to be there to do bounties anyways, so why not grab some mats while I was there? Not every activity is going to be as exciting or rewarding as a raid but it doesn't mean it shouldn't be in the game. 7. Reconsider the progression system and minion scaling. Gear should always carry forward with us, and infusion allows for that, but I also believe RNG shouldn't influence our light level progression, and with the way infusion works in D2 and in TTK, it certainly does effect your progression. Time to embrace a purely EXP-based progression system, or something like the dual progression system we have now, but instead of gear-based infusion, we should increase light level by infusing MOTES obtained from post-cap level ups in order to increase light level. In terms of scaling, we should be able to increase our light level above the activity difficulty ratings so that we have a sense of power progression from that standpoint. 8. Continue upgrading the storytelling. 9. Actually make the class and subclass differences meaningful. Hunter, with the lightest armor, should have the least HP, but should also be the fastest character in the game, with area denial abilities and ranged combat skills. Titan, with the heaviest armor, should have the most HP, be the hardest class to kill, but should also be slow because of the heavy armor; he should also feature devastating cqc combat abilities reaching out close to midrange. Warlocks should be half-way in between, but should also have slight advantages with how often they can use abilities (Warlock is a wizard character - makes no sense for a Wizard to be so heavily constrained from casting spells). Each subclass can have a defined playstyle: offensive, defensive (passive/ranged), and support (better group synergy). Kind of like ESO and how you can adapt all of the classes to perform different roles. 10. Bring back the D1 weapon system. Part of what attracted me to Destiny is the fact that the game, when launched, was NOT about limits, it was about limitless possibilities. And I loved how I could use my sniper or FR as much as I wanted, and when I got heavy ammo synth, I could do virtually the same thing with LMG's and rocket launchers. The last time I logged on to Destiny 1, I actually STILL enjoyed gobbling the heavy synth and dropping Dragons Breath Napalm on everything. It was a total blast. They can follow this 10 point plan, or the alternative for "saving" this game is to be honest about their rebranding, tell everyone the game is just a generic, PVP-centric shooter game like CoD and Halo, and just treat it as such from thence- forth. This would be taking the "easy" way out, though it will cost them players and good will, but at least they can start to reclaim some sense of respect by being honest about the direction they are going in.

      • I don't necessarily disagree with much of any of these proposals, however, it seems like the focus is to Destiny 1-ify Destiny 2. It feels like a lot of regression, but perhaps it's what Destiny 2 needs.

        • I think the best way to change both pve and pvp is to increase damage for all primary and energy weapon damage like in pvp the time to kill is 1.2 on averge make it .8 or 1 sec. For power weapons in quick play make it drop more often, the for snipers increase damage and remove flinch, for shotguns increase damage and make the damage drop off the same as acrus, and last grenade launchers same damage but bigger blast area. Please give me your imput on this idea.

        • I mainly buy Destiny for the PVE, so for me this really doesn't do anything. I understand that everyone wants Destiny 1 PVP back, but man there are so many other things that are dragging this game down. The connection is garbage, the story is bland, the gear is bland, the weapons are bland, etc etc etc. It's a pure watered down version of Destiny 1. They fix PVP back to Destiny 1 and I still think your community is walking out the door.

          • Aztecross makes some great videos, but the guys a PVP player, which is one of the major faults with this game. This hybrid mess needs to go away and Bungie needs to decide what they want their franchise to be. Either give us the PVE first game you pimped to us way back when or go full bore FPS PVP game. You haven't shown you're capable of doing both so don't waste people's time anymore.

            • What Bungie absolutely have to do is separate pvp from pve! Pretty much EVERY single nerf to OP (fun) weapons in D1 was as a response to pvp crying. Vex, Thorn, TLW, Truth, shot package, HCR (looking at you Mida)....the list goes on. They can bring pvp out as a dlc...maybe call it Curse of the Cry Baby of something.

I work in the games business, and I genuinely appreciate the ethos of what is trying to be done here. Some advice for the author: State goals, not prescriptive solutions. The objective outlined is good, but the specifics can undermine the goals because they're easy for a sandbox designer to find fault in that it loses value. The real goal you're stating (which the community as a whole agrees with) is a my dynamic in-match experience with an expanded skill gap and more player agency. When making a business case (a pivot this big is a business case) it needs rationale. While I too prefer a shift back to the D1 weapon system for a lot of reasons, the content design for D2 doesn't support it, in its current form. Again, There's a lot of financial investment into the current content system that strongly competes with this decision. Changes need to be considered as stages. The engineering requirement here is incredibly high. There's no way for you really to know that (or me, i'm just speculating, but from an informed place), and it can miss the goal of what' your really trying to do when it mainly reads as "Change back to Destiny 1" I too am a hardcore D1 PvPer with 100+ flawless cards, and desperately want D2 to be an evolution of D1. Heck, if I had it my personal way, D2 would just have D1 with more maps, subclasses and new weapons. But that's not how you pivot a live operated business. D2 needs to improve within the construct of the game they built. This proposed reversion to a D1 experience, while better than what we have now, does not advance the franchise. Destiny 2 needs a Diablo3 or FF14 moment to re-envision and evolve, not to revert. Again, incredible props for the effort, and your goals are 100% in the right place, it's just more effective to communicate using goals, not mandates.

                  • Any one else feel it would be more productive to call D2 a wash due to so many condemning it for all of its flaws and short comings. I'd personally would prefer Bungie to start working on D3 to allow for more freedom and flexablity with creating a experience that everyone is craving instead of trying to overhaul a game that was created as a micro transaction cash grab. ...Or is it just me?

To those saying it’s basically like D1 Well what Bungie did new in D2 obviously isn’t working. It’s a sequel but it changed to many aspects that made D1 great, so it makes sense to bring back what made Destiny fun. This is a underrated reason why destiny 2 is lacking. The reason why is because destiny 2 took away what made D1 so awesome and replaced it when they already had a great foundation built from 3 years of D1. Now we are back in a beta basically like the three years of D1. A sequel isn’t suppose to completely scrap the foundation of a prequel but expand upon it and make it better. Instead they made the game worse and took away many aspects from the prequel and now look where we are. A scrambled puzzle that Bungie now has to put back together when they already had a well put together puzzle by the end of D1. I’m not including the expansions I’m just talking about the base game by the end of D1’s life cycle. It would be so much more beneficial to them and fun for us if they would just bring back much of these things. Including the ideas that Aztecross listed

                        • The forums are filled with the hardcore Destiny players who really love the game and don't want to move on, so I know this comment is probably not going to go over too well, but why bother wasting time trying to save Destiny 2? Activison/Bungie has lied to our faces and been caught doing it so many times that we'd be fools to assume they'll be straightforward with us. How much more transparency and increased communication have we really seen? They've also made it crystal clear that they are more interested in our $$ than our customer satisfaction. Does anyone feel like the CoO was worth the price tag? Do you still feel that way when you consider how much they raked in through microtransactions that should at least partially be going to fund new content? Or even better, if you didn't buy the expansion did you like just how much content you lost just 13 weeks after buying the game? Yes they're fixing it, but only because Sony and Microsoft forced them to. This game to me feels like they had every intention of just letting the franchise die for maximum profits. I know there are die-hard fans that will stand by the game no matter what. But probably 80% of the people who bought this game have already moved on. Over 8 million tracked players and barely over a million logging on daily. If you love the game so much that you'll let a company lie to you and double dip while providing little actual content, please understand I respect that. It's your money to spend however you wish. But the people who are kind of done but still on the fence waiting to see what they will do to change, just look at the past history and consider if it's even worth waiting. If they bring 6v6 back, did they really do anything that took effort for you? Private matches are coming back, we already had them! SRL will probably come back, we had that too! Do you want to hang around to do the same things you did 2 years ago?

                          • Pretty nice Ideas there, but I'd still like to have the option of equipping two primary weapons. One of my biggest gripes about Destiny 1, was how restrictive special ammo became over the years. At least with two primaries, I can always have two reliable weapons that cover a variety of ranges. Also, I really don't want to go back to having to choose between a hand cannon, or a scout rifle. Lastly, how would Mida Mini Tool work in all of this?
