About Savathun, Aurash/Quira and the possible return of Oryx

I was reading a post here earlier (https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/241677685?showBanned=0&path=0) about the return of Oryx and started writing an answer... that eventually turned into this post of considerations of what could happen in the future. First things first: will Oryx return? No. We killed him in TTK and he's gone once and for all (even if there is one single possibility of making him return, I will discuss that later). Anyway he's in absolutely no case able to return on his own or by being simulated by the Vex (because Vex can't simulate para-causal weapons/powers and Oryx weilded plenty of both. Again, the exception would be already recorded effects of such weapons/powers but in that case the simulation wouldn't come back in full power and wouldn't really be Oryx). BUT But there's a copy Oryx created of himself and upoladed in a Vex Mind, Quira Blade Transform (http://www.ishtar-collective.net/cards/xlii-#books-of-sorrow), and that Vex Mind we know for sure is still around since we know that he gifted such simulation to Savathun. (http://www.ishtar-collective.net/cards/xliv-strict-proof-eternal) It is an imperfect copy of Aurash (the name of Oryx before he became Oryx... but I suppose you already know) and it seems that, despite being probably Taken, this new creatre resents what Oryx has done and become (Oryx left him/her/it some measure of free will) and might hold that grudge also against the sisters Savathun and Xivu Arath. That's what we know from the grimoire cards of Destiny 1. Let's move on to what we can discover in Destiny 2. First of all we now know that Savathun is planning to fill the void of power left by Oryx among the Hive. There are multiple (and rather obvious) references to her all across Titan and Titan's activities. Second we know that there's a Taken Knight on Io that bears the name "Ir Arok, Tongue of Quria" (that "Ir" thing seems to be some sort of title among Hive, probably Quira is building its own power structure) and a Taken Minotaur named "Elatiox, Beloved of Quria". That's very interesting because it gives us two informations: Quira is not only still active, but it seems that it has also learned the power to take (titles in Taken names probably represent the one who took them, but I have no solid proof of it). So both Savathun and Quira seem to be still around and active in the Solar System. What next? From this point on I'm completely speculating about what *could* be happening right now and in the future. This far I wasn't able to find any solid links between Savathun and Quira in the present with possibly the exception of an orb of taken blight that, if scanned, seemed to whisper "Savathun" over and over that can be found on Io(?), the planet where the creatures taken by Quira show up. There's another thing that bugs me: both Quira and Savathun seem to have the power of taking. We know Oryx guarded the secret of taking closely, so why would Savathun share that power with Quira? It would even be against the Sword Logic to gift such great power in that way, which means that either Quira has stolen the secret of that power from Savathun or Savathun stole that secret from Quira. Two facts that induce me to come to my conclusion: - the apparent resentment of Quira/Aurash for what it had become (ad for what Oryx and his sisters became and did to the Hive) - if this Quira/Aurash entity obeys the laws of Sword Logic it should do all in its power to kill Savathun (http://www.ishtar-collective.net/cards/xxxv-this-love-is-war?) So it is my opinion that what is going on in the background (for now) is that we're assisting at the preparations both Savathun and Quira are making to bring their war to our solar system and that at some point in the future we will play our part in that war. ...and what about the return of the true Oryx? Well... http://www.ishtar-collective.net/cards/xxix-carved-in-ruin ...probably if someone (or something) did something worth of Oryx he might even return from death.

  • Quria is a Vex mind, made by the Vex collective to study Oryxs throneworld. Aurash, the Original Krill version of Oryx, was made by Quria in an attempt to understand Oryx. They are not the same thing or entity. Oryx could only come back from Aurash being subjected to the Worm Pact and following in her old footsteps. No one loyal to the Darkness would bring him back, as it’s against the Darkness principles and the Sword Logic.

    • <Savathun is a cruel mistress. She's had ages with Quria to study the Vex, and since it was Taken, the Taken as well. The thing about Quria is that there isn't many ways for it to have the power to Take. The only possible explanation would be that Savathun would share it... but she's too smart for that. Savathun, on the other hand, has many things that would lead the Taken power to her. She's had eons of killing Oryx (if she killed him more than Xivu Arath it would go to her) and she had Malok (if stealing Oryx's power worked for a second the power would go to her... other than that it's just familial). I'm not sure Oryx would return. I'm not even sure Sim-Aurash would make an appearance. While Savathun is shown to love her family, there are many things that would make it seem like she was only in it for her own gain. She initially wanted the mother jelly to live longer, not to become a mother. She was going to kill Oryx (then Auryx) even though she and Xivu Arath agreed to let him kill them. She tried to steal Oryx's Tablets of Ruin on multiple occasions. She wants to speak to the Darkness, for she hasn't seen it. Remember the Dreadfang sword from D1? That thing had some rather interesting flavor text.
Kingly brother, I thank you for the gift of your failure. The sword logic demands a pinnacle.
If that's Savathun talking... well...>

      • It would be cool if Savathûn made puppets from Crota and Oryx's bodies that we had to fight.

        • The 'Ir' prefix seems to be in reference to children of influential Hive. Ir Anuk and Ir Halak, daughters of Oryx, for example.

            • No, Bungie doesn't put this much depth into the actual game so none of this will happen/be proven.
