Is easily the worst Star Wars since Attack of The Clones. I’ve never been this frustrated with a Star Wars movie in a long long time. I’m seeing reviewers praising this movie to death and I’m wondering what the hell kind of movie they saw that I didn’t.
I could’ve written this movie better than Rian Johnson or whoever did. Why didn’t they keep JJ Abrams? He did well with the force awakens imo. I’m not even that much of a picky Star Wars fan. There was plenty of criticism for 7 due to it being so similar to 4 but honestly I didn’t really care because it was a fun movie that continued the saga into uncharted territory with new sith and bringing back the original characters. I still don’t care that Rey beat Kylo Ren with no experience because I was able to suspend my disbelief enough due to how powerful she was with the force and how conflicted Kylo was which impacted his combat abilities as well as his injury
The Last Jedi however is just garbage. It felt like Rian Johnson took whatever Jj Abrams had planned and said “-blam!- it” and threw it out and rewrote it to oblivion
To repeat what others have said, the subplot with Finn and Rise was completely unnecessary and pointless. That was nothing but an hour of nonsense that did not forward the plot at all. I’ll keep that part short
That pissed me off but there were two other major parts of this movie that infuriated me. First was the killing of Snoke. Why?! We never got to find out where he came from, who trained him, how he became so powerful, how he became supreme leader and brought the First Order together through the remnants of the empire, nothing! And how they killed him off was even more pathetic. You mean to tell me that Snoke, who was so powerful that he could bend the force to connect Rey and Kylo together to bait Rey into coming to him by preying on the conflict inside him from killing his father Han Solo (even kylo said that this would melt Rey’s brain if she was attempting that), he says that Kylo’s mind is open to him at all times and that he can’t be betrayed because he knows everything that will happen but you mean to tell me he ant notice a -blam!-ing lightsaber turning a goddamn 180 right -blam!-ing next to him and killings him?! Seriously? That’s just absurd. And why make Kylo the villain of the trilogy when you built up Snoke so much and laid the foundation for Kylo to potentially turn to the light? I was hoping that something good would happen to Kylo for once and that him and Rey would overpower Snoke and escape to the resistance or something but that doesn’t happen. I can’t really take him seriously as that big of a villain
And Leia. How the -blam!- are they going to resolve that? I would’ve respected the movie more if they killed her off in that explosion. That’s war, leadership goes like that. Carrie Fisher is also dead so they’re not ever going to get it completely right so just do it like that. But they brought her back and now this just complicates things. And what the -blam!- was up with her Superman flying through space? She’s frozen and the air has escaped her lungs but she can muster just enough of the force that she was apparently taught offscreen so that she can make it to the airlock that doesn’t kill everyone once it’s opened? I don’t think Rian Johnson knows how space works.
The second part that pissed me off was the treatment of Luke’s character. Mark Hamill didn’t even want to do the movie after he read the script! That just shows how -blam!-ed up it was. Am I seriously supposed to believe that he tried to murder his nephew, the son of his best friend and his god damn sister in cold blood because he saw a potential future with the dark side? Bullshit. This is the same character who went to the damn Death Star to confront the two most hated people in the galaxy to save his father who killed his adopted parents, froze Han in carbonite, captured his sister, cut off his hand, killed Obiwan, blew up a planet, and killed countless rebels because there was a CHANCE that he could turn him to the light. There is no way he would give up on his nephew that quick after coming back from that.
The final battle scene was a disappointment. Those shit speeders they had didn’t even put up a fight. All they did was fly out there dramatically, die some more, then retreat. They didn’t even make it to the ATAT’s. Didn’t they say their guns didn’t even work? Why even go out there in the first place? It makes no sense!
Rey’s “training” didn’t even make sense. Luke promises her three lessons. First of all it took Luke three whole movies and tons of sacrifice and strife and years of training to become a Jedi. It took Anakin almost 2 decades if not more to become a Jedi. Rey is becoming a Jedi in a matter of days. That’s ridiculous. She doesn’t even make it to lesson three. In 7 you could tell she had never picked up a lightsaber because she had no form but was managing to scrape by. After she channeled the force, she had more powerful moves but she was still sloppy so they made it believable. Now she all of a sudden has perfect form as a lethal Jedi and can apparently take on EIGHT praetorian guards. again, absurd.
Luke’s Death was probably the most uneventful death in Star Wars. Instead of actually coming back to save the resistance, he just dies a coward on a far away planet without actually confronting the real threat. I’ll say that it was kinda cool to troll them like that but still they could’ve at least done a proper lightsaber fight. This is Luke -blam!-ing Skywalker for crying out loud. How about this, Leia actually dies, Luke senses this and uses that as a reason to come back and has a dramatic scene where he lifts his Xwing out of the water like how he struggled with, alongside the apparition of Yoda for a really cool full circle kind of scenario and he can properly fight Kylo or Snoke even, (it would be nice to see Snoke in action instead of just sitting in a chair dressed as Hugh Hefner the whole time), and die like a real man and then his death would act as a martyr for the resistance to reignite and come back as a stronger force and then you already have a better setup for episode 9. Instead, the resistance is practically dead already and Luke died from sweating too much. Fantastic.
At the end Poe says that they’ll be the spark to reignite the resistance but it’s entirely unbelievable. The galaxy didn’t help them, they seem content with the first order running things, the republic is destroyed, and there’s less than 20 members of the entire resistance now. The resistance is essentially nothing more than the red shirts from star trek at this point.
The jokes weren’t even that funny. I only laughed about once or twice from the whole movie. The jokes were more awkward than funny. They ruined the tension of what’s supposed to be a dark movie, such as Snoke toying with Rey by hitting her with the lightsaber.
And that shirtless scene was stupid and it deserves all the memes
Also, you mean to tell me that Poe could single handedly disarm a dreadnought? Seriously? There’s hundreds of guns on a star destroyer yet the dreadnought only seems to have like 8. That doesn’t make them seem that threatening at all. I get he’s an amazing pilot and he can blow through tie fighters but the fighters are always stupid, the order is supposed to be prepared for this kind of thing if they’re so powerful but they don’t seem to be. They couldn’t hit the Xwing because it was too small and in close range? They’ve been fighting them for decades! They still haven’t figured it out? -blam!-ing hell
And this new technology out of nowhere? I would’ve rather there had been a mole on board who was right in front of us the whole time. I think that would’ve been clever and that would’ve voided the awful subplot.
And why was the vice admiral so sleepy with Poe? If she just told him that they were planning an escape then there wouldn’t have been a need for a mutiny to begin with. It’s stupid.
And then captain phasma. The greatest useless character ever. I was disappointed by her performance in 7 and I was excited to see her in proper action this time around but I’m still disappointed. Yeah she got a better part. Granted, it doesn’t take much to be better than the last one. We got a short fight scene and then her death and that was it. Again, fantastic...
I give this movie a porg/10 that’s all I can rate it. What did you guys think of this movie? I saw this weeks ago but forgot to talk about it here but people should have seen it by no so hopefully the spoilers won’t throw anyone off
Yes I know it’s a long read. Reading is good for you

1 ReplyNah. Only gripes I had were Rose, the casino subplot, and Snokes extremely minor performance. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
