Look RhinstoneCowboy we know the armour is cosmetic, but whether bungie like it or not Destiny and Destiny 2 are a MMO type game. In MMO type games armour or anything that may or may not enhance your gameplay should not be locked behind a pay wall, it should be grinded for. Stuff like sparrows and ships although pointless from a gaming stand point are something that people still want, so Bungie rather than making those players play THE DAMN GAME to earn those ships and sparrows they place them behind a pay wall. You sir may have a lot of money to spend on video games but other people don't and there might be something that they like but is placed behind eververse. You sir are the reason micro transactions are the norm in video games now

And while I like the simplifications that the static perk rolls bring it does make the whole system very shallow. More about shaders than perk. Ugh.
